Bet you didn't think of this
Bet you didn't think of this
Bet you didn't think of this
Literally 1983 and Super mario Bros just came out and I really want my duck hunt light gun to work on modern televisions.
I mean, when you're not white this happens pretty frequently either way
Was just going to say, this shit is all a projection of what they want to do to POC people. Try going into a gated community at night if you're black.
Doesn't even have to be gated. Just any neighborhood with an HOA or 90% of the households are making more than median income
I had a libertarian tell me once that we shouldn't have drivers licenses because its against freedom. He said people Iran are more free in this aspect, because "they can just hop in a car and drive at age 13", which I doubt is even true.
This line of thinking is why you occasionally get a libertarian guy who is REALLY into bicycles. It's like a double rainbow
all of life should permanently be inconvenient and dangerous because otherwise the bike-toting commies are going to outlaw going to the less convenient stores that are further away
So cool how the Koch Brother(s) and other right-wing billionaires got us cheering for shit that's actively killing us. From more carbon emissions to ending masking and vaccines for covid.
Americans are the most propagandized people on earth
Isnβt it more dystopian to be forced to own a car? Mf most Americans are coerced into paying ridiculous amounts of money just to be able to get anywhere!
βThe government wants to trap us in 15 minute zonesβ I say from my gated suburban neighborhood that I couldnβt survive in if my car broke down or got repossessed because I defaulted on my loan
Isnβt it more dystopian to be forced to own a car?
no, something can't be dystopian if middle class americans already do it, that just means its normal. and coercion is when someone is pointing a gun at you - economic coercion, material conditions? never heard of them.
neoliberalism has become pure self-replicating ideology, nothing real required
Also I grew up in a small town where it was over an hour walk or a 20 minute bike ride to the grocery store. I used to bike to school (which took half an hour) and was almost hit a few times. Thereβs no sidewalks in most the town either
In my current city, Iβm a 2 min walk to the bus stop, a 5 min walk to the grocery store and a 10 min walk to the train station. If I feel like I might be late for something Iβll bring my skateboard and turn 10 minutes into 4. Kinda feels like more freedom to me
I really donβt know how they got that from βIβd like to be able to walk to the grocery storeβ
Propaganda shat out by oil industry lobbyists after they calculated 15 minute cities would cause their profit growth to drop by 0.1% because people would end up buying less gas because they're walking/biking more and driving less. Naturally
believe it uncritically just like anything else fascist media tells them to get mad about. When you perceive literally everything as persecution it's pretty easy to make up a reason.
You might think your delusional utopian fantasy of "food near home" sounds cool, but what will you do when they start making you put poop in your hair huh? What about the people without hair? What will they do?
You fucking tankies never think anything through
You like this one thing? Well what if this other thing happened instead? How would you feel then?
whatever pigs!
I yell as I weave my way past them on my sweet bike
WHAT. WOULD. BE. THE. FUCKING. INCENTIVE. FOR. THAT.
To genocide the white christian cishet male gamers sweetie
another
down, unlimited on theOk sounds rad I'm in
They're absolutely convinced that the government is gunning for them personally
Would be really nice to just fucking walk five minutes to the store to grab some nice fruit or fresh veggies before dinner everyday, but nooo
I have to drive 20 minutes to the nearest store with decent produce at an affordable price because freedom or something
They hate us for our freedoms
My mother too! It sucks.
Seriously, I hate that she can't stop talking about this and similar bullshit. I'm avoiding conversations with her now because of this and it makes me feel like a bad son.
it is legit insane to me how widespread this particular brainworm is. like was it something being broadcast on foxnews? because this shit is legit everywhere and it makes zero sense.
it's different sectors of capitalists pitching fits at one another is how I've interpreted it
Some types of financial ghouls want to make money from real estate or something, so some of them have proposed better urban planning, then some other sector of capitalist ghouls (probably oil or cars or manufacturing or something) have a propaganda war against them
it's all capitalists fighting each other and we're stuck in it
As far as my observation goes, citizens are a big part of the push for 15 min cities because it would increase their quality of life tenfold. Of course there's always ghouls lurking to make profit, who'll jump on everything they deem profitable, but they aren't the biggest proponents of 15 min cities.
Fox or OAN I'm not sure which one.
pretty sure tucker gave it a shoutout
chuds whenever something good might happen:
Loitering laws have also been used to push kids in general back inside their homes. Obviously happens less to white kids, but it still happens a lot to kids and teens across the board. People are really wild with it.
Yeah I actually remember when I was like 11 there was a local convenience store we went to buy candy at sometimes, me and my group of all white friends, and one of the owners would always creepily follow us because we were kids and kids steal I guess. Obviously this happens WAY more to black people lol but I do actually have an experience like that.
isnt this basically what happens to black people in cities
dystopia is when things happen to white people
So you agree, police exist to oppress citizens?
They know. They're just scared the to become the target demographic
There is no grassroots opposition to 15 minute cities. All outrage is being whipped up by the fossil fuel companies terrified of people not having to drive everywhere.
Of course there are plenty of dim-bulb car chuds who buy into the outrage because they canβt imagine not riding their penis extension for every journey
I just found out my aunt, who I genuinely thought was smarter than this, believes 15 minutes cities already exist and they're already preventing people from leaving their zones. I couldn't get any specific details from her. I'm pretty sure she arrived at this stuff through alternative medicine wellness shit.
Yeah, having your travel restricted or even monitored is perfectly normal, and I can't see how anyone could oppose that.
/s of course.
Why do you think changing cities to be more convenient and walkable would lead to a situation where travel is restricted or monitored? Why are these two ideas tied together in your head?
I mean the fact that it's entirely made up and doesn't make any sense might give you a hint.
But if you actually support freedom of movement, ICE is still kidnapping people and holding them in detention facilities for months without trial. Don't have to make that one up.
do you own a cellphone? then you pay for your own monitoring device

Death to America
Also, shouldnβt conservatives want a return to the US before car companies ruined everything?
Starting to believe that βconservativeβ thing is a bunch of horseshit. Pure ideology.
Change I like = good
Change I donβt like = bad
How many of these chuds have ever left their hometown for more than a business trip?
I travel to my beach house / cabin/ boat / condo/ home town AT LEAST twice a year
they've heard that American cities are literally being patrolled by Antifa soldiers which prevent the police from doing anything which explains why the crime rate is up 5328909432% and everything is constantly being put ablaze by murderous gangs of climate protestors
Why though? What motivation exists for that?
Also is it just me or is it literally only the right that is talking about 15 minute cities?
Walkable streets are basically fascism when you think about it
I just literally never hear anyone else talk about it. We talk about walkable cities but not 15 minute cities. We talk about fuck cars but not 15 minute cities. The whole discussion about 15 minute cities seems to almost entirely come from the right having some huge reaction to some incredibly background thing that isn't a major policy of anyone. I don't care about ""15 minute cities"" I care entirely about things remaining walkable and public transportation being free.
It all seems primarily a reactionary outrage tool that they have managed to create from something very small in the first place.
this is basically the opinion of everyone who takes the "15 min cities are ableist" routes
i have yet to have it explained to me why reactionaries think this will happen. What's the incentive? The only thing I've heard is utter gibberish about Jews reducing population growth for completely unspecified reasons.
The average adult at a good pace can walk 1 mile in 15 minutes. Do they really think every single square mile will be a locked off box patrolled by cops in guard towers. They think it'll be like the movie Equilibrium where they only jobs are sad factory worker and cops. And the ratio of cop to civilian is 1000 to 1.
Oh, I've got it. We should tell them 15 minute cities would increase wages for cops, then they'd be on board.
It has nothing to do with logic. They don't like public transportation because they don't like poor people. Anything that benefits poor people (really anything that doesn't benefit the rich) is bad.
Do they really think every single square mile will be a locked off box patrolled by cops in guard towers
They can't even think in spatial dimensions. If you close off the blocks, either people living in the centre have everything in a 15 min radius and people on the edges need to plan 30 min for some ways or the people in the centre have everything in a 7.5 min radius while the edge dwellers can reach everything in a comfortable 15 min walk.
It will happen because it's woke and woke means 1985 jorjor well electric car soy bugs
Lol. Westoids really think cops are going to respond to calls that fast. But hey, guess we should defund them to ensure they donβt oppress us in a nice and convenient city, right?
I'm fairly certain the demographic that posts this is the demographic the cops actually show up for when they get called
Curious how racism is timeless and exclusively used to justify oppression of conquered people
Sadly that would be before the invasions of the angles and saxons, so that's only really dunking on uhhh Wales I guess?
Don't have much to say other than I fucking cannot stand wojaks anymore.
Don't care do it anyway fuck kkkars death to america
doing burnouts in empty parking lots might actually be fun... not that i'd know
Step 1) make cities more convenient to walk around in.
Step 2) limit traffic in clean air zones to try and lower the incidence of asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
Step 3) ???
Step 4) literal 1984.
literal 1984
middle class counter-revolutionary PMC are being OPPRESSED by the cruel and monstrous Stalinist authoritarian state!
I genuinely think most folks that unironically invoke 1984 have never read it.
It's a book full of the whinings of a pretentious classist.
There's one part that really stood out to me, where Orwell's stand in character complains that the socialists make everyone use ballpoint pens and that literature has died now that fountain pens are unavailable.
Lol try walking while homeless in the hellscapes that current car centric cities are
Those who live in gated communities requiring ID to enter, leave, and contracts and millions to live are the same people who want you to believe this kind of bullshit.
First time hearing about these "15 minute cities". Can anyone give me a rundown, please?
It's also how most of the rest of the world is like. I can walk to 3 different grocery stores within 15 min, more if I take a bus or tram.
I used to live somewhere where I could do all my shopping and get to work in a 15 minute walk from my apartment and nothing would make me happier than having a similar living situation again (basically impossible to imagine in alaska lol). Do chuds genuinely enjoy sitting in cars for 1/4 of their day? At one point I was driving 100 miles a day for my commute and it was one of the most soul-crushing things I've ever experienced.
Just because you are a fascist doesn't mean everyone else is one.
Stuff like this is like all the drag queen hysteria Republicans ran on and ate shit on. It's not good in an absolute sense, and it definitely makes it harder to move the ball forward, but ordinary people hear it and go
People screeching about this are the same people who support gated communities.
Hello I am European, and that is cometely wrong
Look, you may have "walkable cities" and "healthcare" and "a greater freedom of movement than anyone in the United States"
but did you consider you pay slightly higher income tax? becha' feeling preeety silly now :smuglord:
tankies will hold you captive in the vegetable section of your local grocery store if you make walkable cities happen
Here in the Philippines, literally everywhere has become a 15-minute-city because of sari-sari stores. I think other countries should copy that concept. Or maybe they already have something similar?
I googled sari-sari store. In US we have stuff like this in big cities (bodegas, corner markets etc).
But even in fairly densely populated suburbs (like my town has +2,000 people per square kilometer), people need to walk about 30 minutes to get to a store that sells produce. However, you could walk about 10 minutes and get to a gas station that sells alright sandwiches and cigarettes.
This could be done just the same with 60-minute cities
Honestly, this would actually be a great mitigation strategy in future pandemics.
I'm not against better city layouts, but would you put it past CHUDs and cops to try stuff like that if we all woke up tomorrow and every city was turned into a "15 minute city"? This has historically happened to minorities and young people for the entire history of this country.
That's not to say we shouldn't try though
How could they? A 15 minute city isn't literally creating like 1 square kilometer mini cities within a city, it's just urban planning. There's no conceivable way for this to ever have cops try and enforce city zones.
i don't think better urban planning has any particular correlation with the expansion of the police state. in fact, i think much of cops' activities today in cities is meant to contain undesirables to "rough" areas without access to basic goods and services.
I mean
The way other actually tyrannical stuff is presented in mass media this sort of
reaction is not very surprisingGonna make a hot take that I dont think anyone will like but here it goes.
Literally so what? You don't need to leave a 5 mile square radius to have a full life. People have lived their entire lives in a 25 square mile area and have had full and fulfilling lives for the entirety of human history.
We just live in an era of capitalist alienation and dissolution of communities and social ties that gives people a sense of listlessness and we are sold an environmentally unsustainable idea that we can simply release the pressure gauge of alienation and misery by visiting another town and seeing different buildings and trees twice a year for two weeks and our lives are more fulfilling and become more worldly.
"Wanderlust" is just a symptom of hedonic treadmill and a fundamentally unfulfilling life. For every 1-2K spent on "travel" you could do so many more positive things for yourself and your community that are actually meaningful and valuable.
Even if you manage to have a good time in one of these other cities, towns or areas all you will do is create a new desire to return to them. A gapping hole of desire that obliterates any attempt to fill it and draws everything around it into a pit of misery.
Many areas of the world suck and it makes sense to want to relocate.
But if you can't find a 5-10 square mile area that you could see yourself living for the rest of your life and never leaving then the problem lies in your own heart and no material possession or amount of travel will ever satisfy you.
I like to ride bicycles with friends a lot further out than 5 miles
15-minute cities is such an obviously good idea that the only way to argue against it is to come up with these nonsensical paranoid fantasies
