90s band alignment chart
90s band alignment chart
90s band alignment chart
Uh, they put sublime under happy because it's Ska-like. I don't think whoever made this chart ever listened to any of the words.
What I got is arguably their happiest song, and it's painfully obvious it's a depressed person reminding himself that life can be enjoyed, is worth living, even when everything is shit.
Yea Id put them a lot closer to angry. Id still slant them a little towards happy because of the sound.
Fuck it, fine, and it's all the same, living with Louie Dog's the only way to stay sane.
"I focus on the pain...the only thing that's real" super horny.
"I wanna fuck you like an animal" -real sadboy hours
"Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot I'm going to come all over you"
Deftones are way hornier than that, most of their songs are about fucking
The entire chart is wrong. There's no "happy" alignment at all in 90's bands.
You're twisting my melon man.
Why can't you be angry and horny?
Exactly my thought! Why not both!?
the NIN position , is not making any sense
Yeah I noticed that and thought WTF?
no counting crows
They missed the saddest band
It's one problem that both angry and sad are opposed to happy, at least for me. While the opposite to horny is frigid, and in my experience, depressed.
You can be happy and angry at the same time, i.e. your girlfriend saying you have the biggest dick amongst all your friends; but its much harder to be happy and sad at the same time, that takes someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, the best, of you.
Leaning to walk again, learning to talk again, make my way back home when I learn to fly, it's times like these you learn to live again, it's times like these you learn to love again. Guy just loves learning.
I'm not saying that you can't have some specific cocktail of unfamiliar-together feelings. Who am I to say what anyone can feel? I'm saying they are conceptually opposed, but hey, happy cake day or happy angry cake day, whatever you want!
Edit: I know you are foo-fighting!
the offspring is definetly not sad, nirvana should be sadder, blink is absolutely much hornier... this chart is all over the place.
No Primus?
That's the sarcasm belt.
What about Ween?
Or at least their own heading. Like how winamp just to say their genre was "Primus".
This explains why I never liked Foo Fighters.
*cries metallic tears into a bed of guns and roses'
Just go here.
I wonder where Linkin Park would fit
sad n' angry
No Doubt got my teenage brain horny
If Dave Matthews was on this list it would just replace the word Horny.
So like, is Ween not on here because they're off the charts horny?
Ween is on the Z axis
I would but deftones in horny tbh. Especially on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. Everyone was horny on that soundtrack.
I miss Chris Cornell. He was all of those emotions all at once.
Type-O-Negative had its most popular moments in the 90's. I think the placement would be quite horny and fairly sad. (If it were Carnivore and the 80's, the scale would implode because it doesn't accommodate very angry but really horny.)
Bad Religion, for the endless ranting raging. Suffer is an epic album. fuckin 1982 for real.
if you get tired of that rather repetitive business, switch to Husker Du
break all the fuckin rules and go to hell with superman
Blink-182 veered wildly to the right towards 2012. They're mostly back on the left again now, though.
I would say rather than Angry Sad, that Deftones is Angry Horny with songs like Knife Party, Change In The House Of Flies, Digital Bath etc. but the chart puts them opposing 🤷
I'm just glad Veruca Salt made the list.
Also, I dunno if I'd lump Sublime into the "happy/horny" category. They're more on the "sad/horny" side of the chart.
Smashing pumpkins in the happy half???
Yeah, seems a bit misplaced. They were always a fairly bleak and moody band... and it only got darker when Billy Corgan started losing his hair, bought a synthesizer, and entered his Nosferatu era.
Yeah, no kidding one of the most depressing songs ever: https://youtu.be/T69Yk6IccL0 -- The end is the Beginning is the End (Batman and Robin soundtrack)
Also one of the best tracks ever.
I would argue To Forgive is.
Someone only heard “Today” and never listened to a single other track before making this meme.
Also even "Today" is not a happy song lol. From Wikipedia:
After the release and minor success of the band's debut album, Gish, the Smashing Pumpkins were being hyped as "the next Nirvana". However, the band was experiencing several difficulties at the time. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was undergoing an increasingly severe addiction to heroin; James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky had recently broken up their romantic relationship; and Billy Corgan had become depressed to the point of contemplating suicide and plagued by writer's block. Corgan recalled that "after the first album, I became completely suicidal. It was an eight-month depression, give or take a month, and I was pretty suicidal for about two or three months."
...
The dark, ironic lyrics of "Today", describing a day when Corgan was feeling depressed and suicidal, contrast with the instrumentation. Michael Snyder of the San Francisco Chronicle said that the song is "downright pretty as rock ballads go" but that "Corgan manages to convey the exhilaration and tragic release he seeks." Corgan told Rolling Stone that "I was really suicidal ... I just thought it was funny to write a song that said today is the greatest day of your life because it can't get any worse." Corgan later compared writing the lyrics of "Today" and "Disarm" to "ripping [his] guts out".
Lily is kind of happyish.
I think they're just generally placed in the center white area, meaning they are equally angry, horny, sad and happy. Everyone in the center white is equally part of all four no matter where in the white they were placed.
It wouldn't be easy to list everyone in the center and say that if their name was slightly to one side or not meant they were more angry, happy, horny or sad. I think that's why OP just made a huge white area in the center.
Great chart. RHCP is so much hornier than Weezer though.
While there's a lot of disagreement on where bands belong, I think Rage Against the Machine as the pinnacle of Angry Music is one we can all agree with.
Yeah, especially printers. Fuck printers.
I’m assuming every ska band is so far off the left edge we can’t see them.
If your band has a brass section, jump immediately to horny.
slow clap 👏
Especially if they've got a tromboner
I'm not sure Cake qualifies.
If it was just a little but longer we could
PICKITUP PICKITUP PICKITUP
the mysterious unreadable watermark in the lower left is actually a blurred-out rude boy
The happiest in sound, but the lyrics are definitely usually on the sad or angry side lmao
The Cat Empire fell off the left, near the bottom
Wouldn't Deftones be in the horny section?
This is exactly the kind of discussion I’d like on this post.
Deftones are VERY horny
This is what I came here to ask, I specifically was looking for Deftones in the horny section and when I didn't see it I assumed Deftones was excluded.
Imagine my surprise when it's all the way on the angry side.
All the songs are Chino moaning into the mic, make it make sense.
Deftones and NIN need to switch places.
Someone has never listened to No Doubt or NIN.
Also Morphine, Offspring, Tool, and Veruca Tools, Blink 182 is way more happy and horny than Sublime. Weezer belongs where the Flaming Lips are and RHCP is hornier than both of them.
This chart is awful.
Or Korn
So you can’t be Angry and Horny?!?!
Sure you can. All of the bands I the middle of the y-axis are equally angry and horny.
Not in the nineties, you couldn't. 😉
can't be angry and horny at the same time, that's discriminatory to incel music /s
This otherwise insightful chart suffers from the lack of NOFX.
I can't believe they're quitting! I refuse to believe it.
Where would we put the FX?
I still listen to Punk in Drublic <3
Angry vs horny as a single axis....
NIN seems to have an angry tone. March of pigs, wish, hand that feeds, head like a hole. There is one sad balad as a cover. There is one horny lyric song, that also happens to be on the happier than sad side.
The angry/horny axis is silly. Go listen to Stinkfist by Tool and tell me a song can't be both.
That's why they left Manson off the list. That band was just horngry.
I went to NIN, Manson opened and Jim Rose Circus sideshow ran in between.
I had shitty seats in the back corner of my mid-sized venue. There were parents all around me in the cheap seats. There were no kids with them, but they were obviously looking for their kids.
The main floor was a sea of 90% under-aged goth chicks smoking.
The parents were all solemn and quiet.
Lights went down
Spot came up, the screeching cheer of 10k girls pierced my eardums. Manson walked out on stage
MANSON: "HOW MANY 14 YEAR OLD GIRLS WANT TO FUCK ME"
The GA seats double down on screaming.
All the parents went from disinterested concern to outright anger.
If you want the angriest horny song ever, it's definitely NIN - Closer
In OP's perpective, placing NIN where it is is entirely based on Closer, and nothing else. Hurt could be sad without being horny.
It is possible to view Closer as horny and happy. The infactucation bringing him closer to god, is a successful antidote to the sadness he expresses them curing. Also the horniness infatuation in itself is a pursuit of happiness. IMO, if you see the cure for your sadness right before you, you cannot be/no longer sad. So, as it resonates to me, closer is happy and horny, not sad, despite lyrical evidence of sadness.
March of pigs live is totally different to the Fragile version. Latter is sad, Live is insane angry.
The Perfect drug is a bit of remake of closer, lyrically. Cleaner, but same. Drugs make you happy. More of a rhythmic masterpiece. Only is also post 2000 great that could be in the sad tab.
also, hand that feeds and head like a hole have core NIN angry sound and lyrics, but happy dance beat/groove.
NIN should be all over the place.
NIN is the blue ring. 😆
OMG. I'm not the only who hasn't forgotten about Eels.
Still on rotation over here
Life is hard. And so am I.
No Ween?? No Mr. Bungle???
They're on their own chart that's just variations of "Weird".
It's my favorite chart.
Melvins probably on that chart, too.
No Korn?
86 Korn, but we got peppers, pumpkins, cranberries, eels and cake.
No metal 😓? (Judas, Metallica, ...)
This must be a joke
There needs to be an Optimistic <---> Bleak axis too
Needs more Ska Bands.
Over here asking, "Where's Mustard Plug, or Goldfinger, shit even The Suicide Machines?!"
Rocket from the Crypt, bare minimum.
Foo Fighers in the eye of blandness.
I would have put Ween there, not because they're bland but because they're everything.
90s NIN was very angry... then Trent went weird.
Sublime should definitely be more towards center, unless you've never even tried to listen to the lyrics.
Many of these bands are misplaced.
Gin Blossoms is sad. NIN is incredibly angry. Mazzy Star is a little bit horny. Deftones is pretty happy. Radiohead is at least a little horny.
Weezer is a tough call because most of the time they’re sad because they’re horny.
I disapprove of the idea that angry and horny are opposites.
Thank you for your wisdom "straightjorkin"
Only ones I've ever heard are Radiohead and Rage against the Machine.
Sincerely, genZ
Anyway are yall telling me there are no bands that are both horny and angry?
Edit:
I was probably wrong about Radiohead. Maybe I mixed them up with radioactive by imagine dragons?
I was probably wrong about Radiohead. Maybe I mixed them up with radioactive by imagine dragons?
This is Almas caviar quality bait.
Then my friend, you have some awesome tunes ahead of you to listen to.
Check them out. Some are great (Cranberries and Blur for example). I also guess you'll know more than you think.
Nirvana In Utero is my favorite record of all time.
They aren’t my favorite band, but my god that record hits me right where I need it.
Not trying to throw an unrelated comment, just hoping the commenter gives it a go too.
Every band on this graphic is amazing. You've just been given an assignment to give each and every one a listen.
If your curious, this chart is full of great artists.
No Doubt on the happy side? Have you listened to the lyrics?
It's the ska effect.
Sublime too!
Surprised to not see Sugar Ray or Everclear, unless I'm blind.
Pulp needs to move up a bit. If you don't think they do angry you have not been paying attention
The axes make no sense for Pulp who are equally angry, sad, and horny.
Also not technically Pulp, but it turns out cunts are still running the world.
and happy on occasion. Rare, but there. Dave's last summer / a good 70% of we love life
RATM makes me horny
Literally wanting to fuck the machine to death.
I doubt that the person who did this chart ever listened to Morphine. Imho they sound like right out of a funeral.
Pretty sure the chart was made by someone born after 2000.
Yeah, I love Morphine, and "happy" is quite possibly the last adjective I would use to describe them. Some of it's kind of playful maybe.
Thank you. Morphine is unquestionably in the Horny/Sad zone.
NIN is off the chart somewhere far beyond the upper right corner.
