I hope you don't have any plans this evening.
  • I would get letters from my grandma - long, winding beseeching me to come to the Lord or whatever, with often a specific date predicted in the near future of the end times. I never kept them because I was embarrassed. She was lonely and mentally ill, and probably trying to manipulate people into visiting her, but she also believed the shit she was saying, even though it kept changing, IMO.

I think that's a little bit of what is going on with these signs

  • Protesters outside New York Times demand newspaper 'stop normalizing Trump'
  • There's no "singling out" NYT. I don't even have to explain that. And I'm not equipped to provide sources, but NYT has been unreasonably sympathetic to Trump's rambling. They've also published some wild exposes of his tax frauds and silly criminal dalliances.

  • Does the GOP Stick Together so tightly to hide the fact that a large majority of them are involved in Pedophilia?
  • Pedophilia is rare. Stranger danger is just weird dudes and busybodies. I mean, protect your kids, and protect them from the loonies who want to control your family.

People who want to hurt children are not limited to one political group or religious or social whatever. They're fucked up.

  • Donald Trump quips he wishes Joe Biden hadn’t called him: ‘He was so nice to me’
  • So, Trump acknowledged in his own weird way, both Biden and Harris called him to be "nice" following the second assassination attempt. This phrasing is all super weird. It's only a story because Trump acknowledged it I public at all.

  • Skyrim lead designer says it will be 'almost impossible' for Elder Scrolls 6 to meet fan expectations: 'Marketing departments just put their heads in their hands and weep'
  • Big budget studios love to just remake old content. They hate original ideas. So they should go back to fantastic games like Morrowind and Daggerfall and Skyrim and make them less annoying, prettier, hey put all the old stuff into the Skyrim framework, at least! Shame no one had thought of that.

    (Skywind, I think, and Skyblivion?)

  • There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple.
  • While this is technically correct, it still doesn't matter. I have built my own high end PCs in the past and it is a huge waste. I'm not even sold on the steam deck yet - I do all my non- critical stuff like lemmy on this 10 year old shit tablet running Android 7

  • Ursula LeGuin puts the publishers in their place
  • As a kid I just wanted to read weird old shit. LOTR, Douglas Adams, Frank Herbert, Philip K Dick, you can guess where this is going. I still can't let go of my childhood Lovecraft nightmares. I am aware most of that is stupid and racist and misguided. But strip that hateful garbage out, you still have a lot

Addendum I f'd up and didn't mention my adoration for Ursula K. Leguin

  • Picture this
  • Even better: get homeless; log in from shelter WiFi. Actually from experience, it doesn't matter. You are a consumer. Being homeless doesn't exclude you from the marketplace. I got a free "obamaphone" while in a shelter. That shit is infested with popups.

  • so what's your threshold for calling police on random situations in your area that appear strange and potentially violent?

background: staying in a roadside motel in the US. Man and Woman in the next room are screaming at each other. 1:30 in the morning. Not my problem.

But I did get voyeuristic and plant my ear on the wall. Most I could comprehend was "your daughter, but what about MY daughter?" from the woman. That's what I thought I heard.

I was like, if I am certain I can tell that someone is beating on someone, and trying to kill them, or you know just violence is happening, then I'll call 911. but I was far from certain. all i could discern was crying and screaming.

Hour later, someone is pounding on my door. is it someone in distress? I am in the least accessible and least desirable room in the place. It's probably one of those two neighbors, but which one?

Anyways, I'm in the US, so I have one or more guns, but I don't keep them loaded or accessible. by the time I had something ready, I think the neighbors were about to pass out. they currently are quiet after hours of screaming.

So I'm not a fan of cops, but not entirely against them. Situations in which I did call the cops:

-Neighbors were screaming at each other, 3 a.m.; their 6-year-old girl was out in the street crying.

-I heard broken glass and looked out the window, and saw a pair of big man's boots going into what I thought was a single woman's apartment.
