They really can’t understand actual criticisms. Trump’s names aren’t just random names to be stupid or mean, they have meaning. Sleepy Joe because he’s a tired old man, Low Energy Jeb because his campaign was a wet towel, Alfred E. Neumann for Buttigieg because just look at him, etc.

“Broke Don” has no meaning, he a fuckin billionaire. Even if he’s been ordered to pay some big fine, he’ll still have plenty of money left. Plus insulting someone for being poor is just bad. But we already know they hate the poors.

it really doesn't work in audio because you could hear "Don" as "dawn", or as the spanish/portuguese/italian word for "Lord", or as as the verb "don" as in to put on clothes. It also sounds similar to the phrase "broke down". Maybe that is intentional? Needs a lot of context clues to even parse the very very ambiguous language.

All that aside from the fact that being broke is um pretty relatable to a lot of people.

Personally if I had to chose between a broke person or a genocider I know which one I'd pick.

Sometimes I miss the most absolute obvious things. It took me ~2 hours but I finally realized why they didn't go with "Broke Billionaire". The nickname could really upset the donor class. It could become popular in its own right and be reused to deride any old billionaire or Richie Rich in financial trouble.
