I knew a ridiculously tall guy once, like 6'8" I believe. He was black but non-athletic and so traumatized from people trying to get him to play basketball his whole life that he constantly moved huddled over, like bowed head and shoulders rolled forward, to look as small as possible. If you can accept that gender is something you self-identify, then you don't need your girlfriend to tell you that you're a man nor randos who come up to you. If they leave then you're still a man. If you were 5'2 and undesirable - even if you were a piece of shit and didn't know it you can still be a man. He can be more attractive than me and more worldly successful, but I'll still feel bad for him for grasping at frivolity to justify why he has some hang up about the term cis. "I act like a man" probably comes with plenty of trauma, frustration, and pain for him and the people around him.

I've never been super concerned with how people see me but over the past couple years I really stopped giving a shit and it's great. I paint my nails, wear dresses, leave my long curly hair down (and still have a goaty, rather deep voice and traditional masc frame.) I refuse to call any of those things fem because I like them and I'm not fem therefore they must be gender neutral.
Side benefit is my wife has some really comfy cloths and some of them fit me so now I can steal her stuff too.

I think you will always be those things, but that doesn't mean you have to support them. American culture will always shape the way you view the world, and having been raised white will always have an impact on how your life goes. There isn't anything you need to do to be american, it's more about what happened to you. Gender is a performance, so it is actually something you can choose how to do.

The best I can come up with is "terms created by marginalized people to describe how people do or do not relate to mainstream society are different from terms imposed by the majority society to coerce marginalized people into a box, and refusing a label in order to obstruct understanding isn't the same as refusing a label imposed by majority society". Like, I don't see any problem to use words used to describe the "normal" identity (cis, hetero, etc) for people that do not express any desire to deviate from the "normal" identity in any way for the sake of improving the understanding of marginalized people. But I'm not sure that's convincing to someone who doesn't already agree (perhaps not for the sake of convincing the person you're arguing with, but the onlooking bystanders).
It's just such an annoying tactic because the bad faith is usually obvious but it's hard to clearly formulate why. I guess it basically just boils down to "more allowances should be given to the people on the bottom than the people on the top", but some of the people on top never stop complaining about that.

There's some methods of measuring. DEXA is generally the most accurate and common but what you describe is also a method of doing it. In this case though he just simply made it up

The number one way I defend trans people's existence and validity in the face of criticism or scrutiny is by saying "if you see them a certain gender at first glance or at a distance, and that's the gender they want, you can't just change your mind about it, your gut already told you the truth".

Uhh, I don't know about this one. I do not pass. I look like a clocky ogre. Does that mean I'm a man now? Hell no. But I must try to conform to gender roles of aesthetics, because to not be perfectly feminine as trans woman makes you a subhuman evil creature, whereas doing the same as cis woman merely makes you rebellious/defiant. This just feels like forcing gender roles onto people, but couched in progressive rhetoric. I know nonbinary people who very much present as their agab. That doesn't make them any less nonbinary. I do not like this post and it's implied ideology.
I maintain that the mind is superordinate to the body; your woman's brain (that sounds weird but I mean this affirmingly) is what makes you a woman more than anything else. Anatomical mishaps are noise, and in the long run there is still the same signal as a cis person of the same gender. I did not mean to imply in any way that being able to pass perfectly (or even to a majority of people) was any sort of requirement or baseline.
I have no expertise or deep knowledge of gender; your comment has reminded me of the quandaries that can be involved in it. As it seems to me, the most coherent thing I can say is that gender is often a vector, and what matters most is what direction you're pointed in.

You will let slip identifiable information on here over time, using pronouns does give some info away for free. Any info can help build a profile on you and if the above user had rarer pronouns that makes them even more identifiable.
If you have in comments or post told people you live in a certain town and that town has 10000 people, cutting the pool by 50% or more is bad.
Using their desired pronouns could also be a danger to them if government/family discover the account.
