What made you into a class enemy?
  • I was a lot more naive and very idealistic. I’ll just fess up that I was much more left leaning in the last handful of years. A lot of it was the socialist kind of stuff as absolutely embarrassing as it is to say. It was never tankie level, but with long story short I came to realize that markets are pretty tight, America and it’s institutions probably aren’t NEARLY as bad as I thought they were in fact they’re really good, came to have a lot more compassion for liberals and centrists, “revolution” is cringe and reform is literally the ONLY way, etc.

I’d still say I’m a pretty idealistic guy and I still have particular issues even we might not agree on. But neoliberals strike me as very reasonable and sensible. Now if I could wish for anyone else to be deradicalized, it would be bringing the Trump crowd back to the bog standard fiscal conservatism. Lmao

    Deeply unserious

  • I don't really like that the feminist stance on cis marriage is that women should keep their own surname rather than taking the man's
  • It costs money to legally change your name without a marriage certificate and making a fun portmanteau would cost a lot since you'd both have to pay.

That being said I know two couples who just go by the portmanteau but on legal documents use their birth last names

  • Why are there so many bad horror games?
  • IMHO it's because it's very difficult to control the player's pace and focus without being annoying to control. Think of a horror movie scene where the monster is hiding in the corner of the shot like say hereditary. If the protagonist is jumping around opening every drawer looking for a medkit spinning 360° every 5 seconds it takes away from the suspense and atmosphere.

Also, as soon as I see a glitch or notice a pattern in the bad entity it pulls me right out of it. Like amnesia was so scary until I realized i could predict with very good accuracy exactly when and where the monster was going to turn up.

  • What if the entire internet gets reduced to a footnote?
  • a pervasive legend of the late anthropocene era seems to involve a man who, by pure reason and scientific methodology, was able to transmogrify himself into a preserved food item called a "pickle." Our records indicate that this was the height of comedy during this time period as multiple distinct sources reference it as being the "funniest shit [they'd] ever seen"

  • I used to listen to a couple podcasts featuring this ghoul when I thought i was a Very Smart Progressive Liberal™ so i hear his little voice every time i read something about or from him

    Yuck

  • Would someone please help me understand when using "they" as a catch-all pronoun is transphobic?

I've seen a few posts recently calling people out for using "they" when referring to someone with gendered or neo pronouns.

As a long time dumb guy I was under the impression that gender neutral pronouns were basically always acceptable and I'm now concerned that I have been unintentionally making people uncomfortable.

My current understanding based on context is that once someone has made their pronouns known, unless specifically included, 'they' is no longer acceptable. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out

Can you misgender a baby? (Based on real events)

My child is AMAB but isn't even old enough to talk let alone express an identity based on societal gender norms. That being said almost everyone we meet will refer to them with she/her pronouns until they hear the name which is typically male coded. More often than not they become very apologetic even though I don't really care at all. As I say to them "he doesn't seem to mind either way" with a smile.

This has me thinking, however, about how to handle this situation in a way that, when old enough to understand, shows my child that they get to decide how to be referred to, not other people.

    Any thoughts or opinions?
