I'm really into unusual/insane/unhinged. I find them fascinating. I've followed conspiracy theorists, alien abductees, otherkin, therians, people who eat cat fur of their sofa, etc etc.
I'm looking for good weirdness to watch during downtime. Any suggestions.
I think he started out documenting his homelessness and where he camped, but after becoming homeful, he kept going out and stealth coming in really weird places. Abandoned buildings, caves, mines, roundabouts, highway median strips, under bridges. Sometimes he camps in regular camp grounds, just in whacky shelters like cardboard boxes or blanket forts. Sometimes he secretly sleeps in his car.
Just...be careful for those of you who have lost loved ones. Steve is a wholesome guy whose wife passed next to him in the middle of the night. So he may bring her up in his videos. Credit to the man for still going. I honestly wasn't sure he would.
He is no longer with us, but lookup videos of Terry Davis. There's lots of documentaries about him but it should be easy to find his stream clips, if you just want to watch him.
Paranoid schizophrenic who spent 10 years creating his own operating system from scratch because God told him to.
I read all that and honestly, that all sounds exactly like what I would assume an early- mid 20s relationship burdened under existential nihilism coupled with that numbing pervasiveness that hollows you out after losing your staring contest with the absurd, and the ideations that our ennui naturally exude.
It's easy to look back over years and pencil it in neatly, plot holes filled, from our privileged advantage in time. Life, as we know, if weve lived a sufficient amount of it, is never as linear as our stories, nor as intentional, and providence and luck benefit us each more than we admit, even to ourselves. We embellish our own story - to ourselves. It's too easy to retcon stories in a bad light, fucking creative industries are devoted to that entire genre, but it's way to easy to think, gee exurb1a's smart and think it's all premeditated and working to a point and in that light that's all really fucked up. Idk man. I think we all can look back a decade and find ourselves cringe, I imagine these two kids are no different.
Parallel to that you could see how maybe guys having some fun running with an idea with this gal. Maybe he set up some synchronicities, people do plan surprises don't they? That's still a thing right? I think it's entirely plausible it's a series of happenstances she's rewriting as if theres some davinci code Roseline thru it all. I think it's entirely plausible that exurb1a was shooting from the hip the whole time, while talking about the heavy shit that goes thru his mind. And your mind, and mine, cuz if you know of him, you also know what entails the ennui.
I mean, youve listened to his essays, and you're...surprised...that his life is chaotic and messy too? Like.. you didn't see this coming? Maybe his next video should be about making apples from applesauce.
Y'know, nowhere did I see her take any personal responsibility. It was her trip to a psych ward because of him, not her lack of critical thinking or ability to put space between them? Idk man, eschewing agency doesnt absolve yourself accountability and it sure as shit doesn't lend your credibility.
I've read her side and I'm not convinced, I still have questions, things just aren't adding up to me. A couple screenshots of text (that totally can't be faked right?) isn't what I would call bringing receipts. Im reserving judgement until I see his response, assuming he responds in public, y'know since that's where she brought her accusations. Until we hear both sides, it's all hearsay anyways. In reality, we don't know shit about either one of these people, whether theyre good people or not or whatever. Maybe she's trying to go all Amber Heard on him, how the fuck would we be able to discern otherwise?
Yea, I think reserving judgement is prudent. And if the reality doesn't come to light? Well, oh well. It's not our business to begin with.
Yeah the things I read about him are quite controversial. But whenever I've seen him on video (even filmed unknowingly by others) he's always seemed like a very genuine man.
I often watch urban explorers, abandoned places stuff and tuned in to his channel a few times, too. There were signs. I thought he just knew the right behavior code and talk to brush by those nationalist wannabes and drug militias. Now I know. Shocked.
Never forget how he got kicked out of Russia and next showed up in Afghanistan! He seems to have no risk-aversion. I'm almost half expecting him to pop up in Gaza next... He's made some excellent insightful videos.
This was my original pick, I've heard there are some pretty serious allegations against him too which I'm in no position to properly evaluate. But I'll keep watching with the benefit of the doubt for now because his videos are very interesting.
Along the actual science line there's also Explosions & Fire, an Aussie making explosives in his garden shed. He's got a sister channel called Extractions & Ire as well where he makes other chemicals with more detail.
There’s a tv show titled “my strange addiction “; probably what you’re looking for, as it has people eating cat fur, someone married to a carnival ride, a shower drain hair collector, eating dryer sheets, chewing dirty diapers, eating a loved ones ashes, eating toilet paper, drinking paint… here’s an example:
I was a postmortem scientist for a decade, and have a show called After Death, which focuses on SFX makeup and embalming, based on gruesome ways people have died! It's on a page called Bad Day HQ which focuses on the worst days in history... crime, death, natural disasters, conspiracies, cryptuds, etc. Honestly best side gig ever. I love being teach people about really morbid stuff.
May not be entirely what you're looking for, but my immediate thought is Max0r. His editing style is so insane that I regularly wonder when the mental institute is going to be coming back for him
Moreso about his crippling fear of aliens, but Joel Vinesauce has some utterly bizarre and nuts segments. His Voices of the Void stuff is hilarious and his paralyzing fear makes him super entertaining. He also does weird youtube video nights where he watches creepy youtube videos.
I would suggest ididathing that guy is pure chaos and has zero concerns for his safety, there is a running gag, things get brutal sometimes and overall fun and informative.
Perhaps a bit tame by those standards but explosions & fire or his second channel, extractions & ire. They're good for watching an Australian man's mental health decline while he tinkers with dangerous chemicals in a dilapidated shed full of equipment that looks like it needs to be put out of its misery. On the topic of strange Australians, garbage time is on the lighthearted side of unhinged. Watch as he and his friend torture restore clapped out shitboxes
Yeah, I watched a couple of his review videos years ago and then more started popping up on my feed. I'd occasionally click on one and everytime I did more red flags would appear. Mention of weapons? Well he is on a ranch. Wait, that's not a ranch. Homesteader? Huh. Vaguely concealed racist, anti-Obama dogwhistle. Gotcha, blocked.
Wade "Dankmus" Nixon runs a whole bunch of YouTube channels with insanely funny humor, I've been following him for a long time.
DankPods is where he uploads tech related stuff, which initially started with iPods, then headphones and audio gear, then more general things.
Garbage Time is where he gawks at cars with his friend James (who has a channel of his own). It started out as a variety channel, but later went to being car-related specifically.
The Drum Thing... it's obvious what this one's about. Although he actually talks about cymbals more than drums in this channel. Irony.
Hello, I'm Gaming is where he plays pretty crappy games, but his humor makes them not crappy.
Before all this was known, he had another channel called Dankmus, where he uploads musical remixes of popular Simpsons episodes (I guess you could call them YTPMVs, but I'd rather not use that name anymore)
He's also done a few collaborations with Linus Media Group which is pretty neat, and even streams on their video platform, Floatplane.
