I feel like the odd one out in this chat ngl because I've always found the free RSS feeds of Chapo, TrueAnon et al to be plenty. What's the deal here?

Having to supply a token to auth that you should have access to a URL is a pretty common thing in streaming/file hosting, especially for CDNs that sites will use to offload file hosting. My guess is it's probably a Patreon change because a lot of creators will expect that kind of feature and get mad if people can easily pirate their content.

I don't particularly have a high opinion of the chapos these days... But realistically this seems more likely to be a patreon change, I would think.

it's probably a patreon change and not a change that the podcasters did. At least I am guessing Patreon doesn't hvae an option that is "How hard do you want your content be to steal? [x] Easy [ ] Hard"

this explains why no new trueanon and chapo eps popped up at the end of the week
they got me fucked up if they think I'm paying for content made by people who make more than I do in a year every month

  Tbh the only podcasts I listen to is radio war nerd. Behind the bastards can be entertaining. Mostly I listen to whatever comes up on my new pipe feed

  Radio War Nerd is good, Behind the Bastards used to be better when they had a larger pool of bastards to choose from, I feel like they've already done the juiciest shitheads of history plus Robert Fedvans can have some truly bad takes. Lions Led By Donkeys can be good too, especially when talking about older topics, but anything Russia/Soviet Union related brings out the host's russophobia. Plus he's a veteran and way too charitable towards American military bullshit so I really pick and choose which episodes I listen to

I'm surprised if they did it intentionally, they've never seemed to care all that much about pirate feeds - except the movie and the 8 track or casette of a podcast, that they seemed to care about. But the actual patreon shows, like Chris Wade has showed up in blackwolffeed so they're at least aware and besides this never seemed to make any moves about pirate feeds for years

If jumble is done for then I'm basically done listening to half the podcasts I listen to. Even beyond getting the premium content for free, the main sites these podcasts get posted on (soundcloud, podbean, apple, etc.) run like total crap for me and freeze regularly while I'm listening.

this is the kind of thing that it would be sort of weird for patreon to let people choose.

No, but that is probably also why jumble.top is down. That was their MO, of just listing the patreon links from another feed.

Listening on SoundCloud is annoying cuz it always loses my place in the episode and trying to goes the time stamp is the opposite of fun
- Why not use a download app that goes into your browser and allows you to download from sites.
- I'm curious why you don't use a podcast app like apple podcasts or something instead of listening on soundcloud?

How much does each of them make a year? Maybe they reached that point where they felt entitled to make even more.

  That's how they get ya.

Set up AudioBookShelf, pull the feed, then open your feed and share the feed URL. This gets you around the token but it does put you on the hook for hosting and serving the feed.
