Seriously, they suck. Do people outside the west even use them? I think the user interface sucks even. I wouldn't hate them as much if their users weren't basically cultists.
I used an iPhone for 10 years. I never liked it. I had a Mac for 5 years. I never liked it.
it's duplo. some people need the gutter bumpers and parts too big to be a choking hazard.
"I don't need to do any of that fancy stuff... I just need it to check my emails and surf the webs."
then ask why they paid $2500 for something to do what a $300 device can do, and wait for the angry choking sounds while they explain how the marked up busy box with training wheels is for the superior consumer.
The only reason I can fathom why most non-tech people like Apple is because 1) MS sucks worse in many ways 2) they have internalized the marketing hype, aesthetics and logic of $$$ means better
I've been forced to use an iphone and mac for work about 6 months ago, and the mac is mostly just annoying at times, while the iphone is really much more annoying generally. Both of them make doing a lot of common daily things like connect bluetooth device take 2x as many clicks/taps than they need to be.
I think it's worth pointing out that the Apple ecosystem is really good, too. iMessage may be annoyingly closed down, but it is so nice to be able to text people with my keyboard
I am kinda stuck with Apple because I am the type of person to obsessively take notes and there is no more seamless experience than the notes app, as feature light as it is
Overpriced. Status symbols. Not even better for security, that's just a marketing thing and some nerds got caught up in it. The code is closed you literally can't tell how secure it really is and they can create whatever backdoors they want.
Android also has issues but you can at least load aftermarket ROMs to take more control over the device and security yourself.
There was a window of time where it was super easy to jailbreak iPhones - and there were tons of cool customization options, plus you could easily pirate apps and get in-app purchases for free. That was neat. That was the only period in which I owned an iPhone and felt okay with it. I've heard jailbreaking is a lot more difficult these days but I don't really know because I switched to Android.
I am also on the Apple hate train mostly because I used to repair iphones for a living. I think Apple was pretty cool in the 90s with their iMac line and with the iPod but I think the release of the iPhone is the turning point for Apple. I never owned an iPhone and I think the original reason was because I saw most iPhone users as pretentious. To be honest though. IPhone work and a lot of people like them so I don't really care what phone anyone uses because it isn't important and nobody cares.
Funny anecdote my aunt who is a massive apple fan was also in a literal cult, technically still a member but the leader died a few decades ago and they're more of a weird lib theatre company now
Been saying it for years and people ridiculed me for being broke cause I fw android...like how you gonna spend more money on something worse and then think that's not a self own
Mac OS are unironically so much better than windows. My Macbook with 8 GB RAM and a 4 year old processor runs better than my work laptop with 16gb ram and a 2 year old processor running Windows.
I have a Kali VM on both machines and the Macbook runs it smoother when I dedicate 2gb to the VM than the windows version with 6gb dedicated to the VM.
I just wish I could run Fedora or something on my work laptop.
Out of the box they come set up with the worst settings imaginable, click to select instead of touch and low sensitivity, but once you get past that and start using spotlight (command + space bar) there is no going back
Battery life and quality generally is also awesome, and mag safe is awesome, except for when they took it away for some reason
After using a 10+ year old Macbook someone dumped on my lap as e-waste, I'm a believer in Macbooks now as far as ergonomics is concerned. None of the non-Macbook laptops I've owned or serviced comes close to how it activates the "it just feels right" part of my brain. Not a single one. Only real con is it doesn't have an Ethernet port.
As for the OS, MacOS better than Windows but worse to Linux. I gave MacOS a chance before dual-booting Fedora, and yeah, the Macbook with Fedora is definitely better. Not exactly a fair comparison since MacOS Catalina is no longer supported, but Catalina is like the Windows 7 of MacOS in terms of how Apple fanboys look to it with nostalgia apparently.
The moral of the story is to make friends with Apple fanboys so they will offload their old but perfectly functional Macbooks on your lap lol
I often find iOS UI/UX choices confusing and sometimes contradictory, eg what I need to know to swipe left/right or long press versus what it just doesn't support. Just the amount of stuff hidden away from the end user, like saving files and having a file system, put me off it early on and I think it's still mostly like that.
THe only reason why I'm using an Iphone is because it was given to me by a family member who keeps getting the newest version. I hate it, simple file transfers is a pain in the ass. If I were to actually buy a phone, I would definitely get an android.
I have a Pixel and while Google sucks, it's a nice phone and not too expensive. I like it way more than I did ny iPhones. My iPhones were always riddled with bugs, whenever I'd complain apple losers would tell me their phones were fine and it was probably something I was doing wrong. This is shit Nintendo fans do and it makes me hate the products even more.
I can't stand them either. My partner recently got one of the newer iPhones for free. Obviously we've moved her over to it as it's far nicer than her last one, which was on the way out. Problem is that she hates using it and I hate maintaining it. Doing something as simple as extracting a game save so I can edit it was like pulling teeth.
Thinking of selling it and just getting a new android for her instead.
I like my macbook because it's sturdy and has long battery life, also MacOS isn't completely terrible, it's unixy and customizable enough, although I do prefer Linux. I don't know any other laptop manufacturer with a similar build quality, almost all laptops post 2012 or so had garbage build quality and/or shitty battery life, I'm all ears for suggestions tho.
I hate that you have to pay out the ass for the thing tho, I'm gonna be pretty pissed if it craps out before the 5 year mark.
I admittedly just switched over to Apple products early last year for a variety of reasons. Most of those reasons dealt with some QoL things that I could use in my own personal ecosystem, such as FaceTime, quality of screen, and it's not Samsung. Samsung does some shady shit that you're not aware of until you dig into why something isn't working as it should.
You will never catch me on a Mac though. That shit is so fucking overpriced that I'd rather just burn the money for warmth. Besides, I refuse to run any OS that isn't some flavor of Linux at this point in my life. I don't think I've booted into Windows in probably 3 years at this point.
As a software programmer OS X is so much more friendly than Windows ever will be or ever has been since itβs Unix. I can hack around on OS X without it getting in my way, and since I live in GNU/Linux systems the rest of my time itβs familiar and intuitive for any work I need to do.
I donβt really use Apple stuff for anything but work these days but I will take that over Windows any day.
I switched to Android recently and have to say I prefer iOS
Little things like the spell checker is better, space bar scroll is smoother, apple pay integration is a little more seamless and generally the iOS apps tend to feel a bit more polished. Battery life is also way better.
OTOH I now have stremio on my phone which outweighs all that other shit.
Why would you use something for 10 and 5 years if you donβt like them?
Why do people feel the need to express all the stuff they dislike? I wouldnβt dream of making a post saving anime sucks, as it probably doesnβt suck to many people. Itβs just not for me. I prefer to spend my time talking about my likes than focusing on my dislikes.
Haven't used mac OS in a while but I liked it in 2018. Being based on UNIX I preferred it to windows. Also their in-house RISC chips are really impressive.
I used to like iPhones because they lasted longer and were easy to replace the screens on. They also were an easy way to partially degoogle and are more privacy focused by default. Now itβs just momentum. Iβm more familiar with Apple stuff I guess. I couldnβt care less about the fanboys or the cult of personality or the brand loyalists.
I got a refurbished 2016 MBP about 2 years ago, and I gotta say I really like the build quality, even if the software is whatever. I have a similar take on iPhone, but iOS is a huge deal breaker. I'm not that much into android, but it feels way better to use.
Windows phone was the only smartphone os that didnβt completely suck. Of those remaining, I much prefer iOS to Android. Windows is far worse than macOS, I use it on my gaming pc, OS X on my laptop, and Linux for my SBCs and random computers. It comes down to not which is good, but which sucks the least.
To each their own. I was a certified technician for all the major brands of android phones and Apple, so having seen how the milk is made, I donβt think anything could ever get me to go back to android. If I didnβt have bad experiences with AMD GPUs and feel stuck on Nvidia, Iβd drop windows for Linux and never go back.
I mean we all got preferences but yeah I never liked apple. Except the IIGS. Playing Oregon Trail and naming all my party members after my idiot friends so I could be like "yo pat you drowned while fording a river" across the computer lab. Cherished memories. Sorry about the dysentery, Dan, but the pace is set to grueling and the only breaks we're taking is when I shoot everything that moves and leave all the meat behind.
iPhones do in fact suck more than Android, but there's really nothing better for a professional than a Macbook Pro. The M1 was a game changer and still gives some of the best hardware bang for the buck out there. The M2 and M3 are only marginally better, but still the difference is night and day since they ditched Intel.
Iβve basically only had apple products and I feel trapped. My phone is too new to abort (it was bought against my will), and my music and photo libraries are too big.
