The dead plant is a nice touch.
How about the wall mounted zyn cans?
yeah man! the fucking dead plant sent me!
You may not like it, but this is what peak Buy It For Life looks like.
Amateur hour! The cinder blocks are all aligned and could more easily tip over; stagger those joints! The top will scratch your phone; put a piece of wood, cardboard, or an old shirt on top to protect it. Also, throw away that phone box, that shit ain't collectable.
I've repurposed a few of those boxes, though my most recent iPhone box couldn't be repurposed, so that one I threw out.
Cinderblocks are literally just legos for adults. Not because it's more mature or anything, but because it's cheaper.
They also destroy your toes if left in the bedroom.
Imagine building a whole building with these cursed blocks
Everyone has steel toed slippers, right?
Furniture maker here: Would a night stand with open cubbies on the front like that be popular? That would be fairly easy to build out of wood.
Everyone thinks this is a good idea until they have it and the dust builds up constantly. Drawers were invented for a reason.

Absolutely. It's a simple design that makes it easy to find things in the dark, and provides plenty of storage space for various bits and bobs you might want easy access to before bed or in the morning (not just that, get your mind out of the gutter!). Make sure at least one of the cubbies are large enough to take an oversized hardback book, and ideally have some space under it to hide an extension cord so you can plug in your phone charger and a bedside lamp.
It's like a bedside wine rack, 11/10.
Also, wood would not put scratches on all my possessions.
Sure, half the stuff in Ikea is empty frames which you can put drawers and doors on. Which is entirely optional, half our house is just empty frames.
I have one with top space cubby and underneath a drawer
Where do you hide your sex toys then?
In my bum
Hide?
How many months ago do you figure he dropped that pen back there
day he put the side "table" in for sure
I think this is less "male" and more "poverty".
You can probably find a used nightstand for free easier than finding/buying those blocks to haul to your apartment.
An iPhone and an MagSafe charger is not poverty …
First thought in a male brain seeing this: "wow, practical".
Then i saw the text.
My first thought was : that is a stout table, not going anywhere, modular , hmm 🤔
The design is a awesome, but come on don't put it directly over the floor, put a rag or something under it.
And add some of that vinyl shelving paper for peak vibes
Just jealous because I didn't need $40k to furnish my home.
It's quite clever until you stub your toe on it at 4am.
Would it hurt anymore than a normal bedside table though?
Yes
Probably since it's not smooth, so you'd also cut yourself
Wood might flex a bit and absorb the impact, making it hurt a bit less. Concrete won't.
Amazing brutalist aesthetic
I scraped my knuckles just looking at that
thats a good looking house plant.
F
Yeah, seriously, make that in wood and it would be a hit.
The most popular shelves are just a bunch of cubes, one side open, slapped together.
There is no fucking way I'm keeping a bedside table like that. Specifically a bedside table.
How the hell am I gonna show people my room politely with vibrators, lube, condoms, rope, spanking paddles, rope & a hitachi wand hanging out fuck all that lol
Don't even need to remake much. Just put a slab of wood in the middle and on top.
The zyn hanging on the wall says everything I need to know about this person.
What though?
Everything.
And multiple cans on a Velcro strip as if immediate and redundant access to them was necessary.
Zyn people sleep with zyn inside them. Redundant access is necessary
This guys a damn genius
If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid.
Looks heavy. Could have probably gotten a much lighter side table for free from a sorting facility, or give aways over 2nd stuff websites.
Of course you can do better, but still better than nothing.
Maxim 43 would like a word.
First thing I thought of when I saw that is "Hey, that's just Kallax!"
My girlfriend and I have just moved into a new home and we're decorating the living room. It's still a work in progress, but we've painted the wall and put up some Kallax!
There's going to be some drawers and doors and stuff, but this is what it looks like so far ❤️
Edit: for those of you eagle eyed enough to think "wtf even is that in the picture?" I can explain. It's a pokéball drinks coaster made from hammer beads!
I like that flower vase. It looks like a radish.
Very nice! I'm jealous of having that much storage space around the TV.
Of all the ways to paint walls, that sure is one of them!
I expect this will damage the flooring.
It'll scratch the shit out of anything you put on top of it, too. Or in the little cubby holes.
Do your night stands like dance around and shit? If so they may be too close to your bed homie. Looks like it’s against the wall, and there is approximately 240 lbs of cinder blocks. I think it’s fine as long as you set them down and pick them up gently.
Depending on the quality of that vinyl flooring, it could cause permanent depressions. That's 50 lbs of cement versus a couple pounds for a wood nightstand.
There is also a risk with spills which would be drawn under the blocks and cause moisture to be trapped.
I would be far less concerned if there was carpet involved.
Nevertheless, I'd at least put some protective foil down.
Damn, this is both beautiful and functional. 10/10
Good place for those nighttime sunglasses
Hey, that overhead light is really bright at 3am.
I like it except would definitely have to put those little round felt pads for chair feet under it to protect the floor.
And pad the corners for my elbows!
Jesus could you imagine stubbing your toe on that in the middle of the night
Well, for one thing, I'd not be walking into that wall anyway.
Ah yes, concrete dust everywhere in my bedroom... delicious.
The zyn counteracts the silicosis : /
My grandmother had a stack of these in her basement and had them all crisscrossed. It is where she stashed her money. She claimed it was fireproof, she didn't have to memorize a combination and nobody would take the time to pull them all apart if they didn't know what was in them.
looks fine too me (i use cardboard box pieces as shelves)
remember the days when you could find giant wooden wire spools to use as furniture? Those were better days. They even had holes predrilled in the middle if you wanted to use it outside as a patio table. They were much better tables than the crap thats on sale today.
I'm wondering if that coffee cup acts as a spittoon for the Zyn tobacco pouches.
Nothing like a zynoccino to start the day
The pouches cup and the piss bottle
Looks sturdy
What's wrong with this?
I have problems with it.
For one, all the edges are scratchy. You run the risk of roughing your hands every time you reach in to get stuff.
For another, I (and my boyfriend, who I had the urge to spritz with a bottle of water when I saw this out of reflex) have ADHD, which is rough for proprioception. In other words, we aren't so great at judging the relationship in space between ourselves and furniture, and bang into it a lot. In other words, when we inevitably punch this cinderblock trying to reach in to grab something, or bang a hand down on it just trying to reach for a phone, we're going to skin our hands and that's blood we don't need on random surfaces.
Finally, as someone else pointed out, when we inevitably bang our feet on it, now we're lookin' at a broken toe.
(For the record, I told the boyfriend I saw this and almost spritzed him with water, and he laughed.)
For me it’s the smell
I just sleep on the floor in a circle of boxes with my things in them. Get on my level.
As a woman, this is neat, but it needs paint. Lol
I would say that paint depends on what style the room is overall.
Looking at the bed for comparison some paint would be needed, however comparing to the shelf it might be an industrial looking and if that is the case paint wouldn't be necessary and cinder blocks can fitt into it.
In conclusion, we need more pictures of the room to determine paint or no paint and colour.
Pfft, amateur. Milk crates are the way to go.
