And I was just asking yesterday what would you feel if someone evil used your FOSS software: https://lemmy.world/post/16898871
I just learned that Nmap is almost GPL except that they revoked the license specifically for SCO group for their SCO–Linux disputes.
This got me thinking, what do open source programmers think of evil companies or horrible people using their software?
Don't get me wrong, FOSS software by its nature can't be controlled or strictly prevented of being used. But in case of companies like SCO, that is a thing that at least can cause them headache and they risk getting into legal trouble. A programmer for example can modify GPL to make so that his software can't be used by Microsoft or Facebook, but it is GPL for everybody else.
I found out that this tool http://www.convertlit.com/ provides a program with a funny name. I wonder if there are similar programs with offensive names or puns like this one. For example, I remember reading a fortune
output saying something along the lines of
sh man Why did you get divorced? man: Too many arguments.
And of course, there is the cliche touch grass
.

It'd be interesting to find similar one for the Fediverse.
Everyone is talking about rm -rf /
and damage to storage drives, but I read somewhere about EFI variables having something to do with bricking the computer. If this is possible, then it's a lot more damage than just disk drives.
Edit: this is interesting SE post https://superuser.com/questions/313850
Yet another reminder that the cloud is just a fancy name for someone else's computer.

I found this old project from 2018 that redesigned Reddit into a frontend similar to Outlook. Would be fun to see this on Lemmy especially since we have a lot of frontends.
Woah. Interesting setup. Looks like a PinePhone with 3D-printed case. But what about the keyboard? and the original Android status bar?
If your employer forced you to either use Google or Microsoft or some other tech company (Apple, Samsung, etc.) what would be a better choice?
Which company is more compliant in terms of privacy or generally better and why?
I was thinking about Google since there were new regulations enforced by government and at least I don't have to pay for Google Docs, unlike Microsoft where I pay and I'm still spied on.
I'm not sure I'd call it a problem. In the end it's the developers' choice.
Btw, I think this applies in general to opinionated software. Suckless is just a subset of that.

Git-based wikis are the best IMHO.
How would a real gentleman say it?
Or just keep it more compact: Xitter.
Pronounced with sh.
I feel it's way easier and more rewarding to understand projects at their inceptions before it gets too complicated that only experts could understand.
Play lots of chess games and it'll get easier.

Looks like this is still not implemented. But are there Android apps with this feature?
