When has reality ever mattered to these idiots? More than a few of them think that posting that stupid Tienanmen Square text wall at Chinese users can actually get those users flagged/banned/grabbed by the Chinese secret police
I've seen actual news articles claim that Winnie the Pooh is straight up banned in China. You can just do a quick search to see that this isn't true, but that doesn't stop our intrepid Western journalists.
The Christopher Robin movie not being released in China was also not because of Xi's hurt feefees as some people claim, but because only a certain amount of Western movies are released in China per year, and it's not like Christopher Robin was exactly a smash hit.
From what I remember, what actually happened was there was a very shit racist meme circling around around when Obama was the president, and he had visited China and was acting “friendly” with Xi.
In any case, the meme was basically Xi as Pooh and Obama as Tigger. Because of racism.
The meme was banned because of the Obama Tigger thing. That was the big deal. Not Xi as Pooh.
Gunna call out Robert Fedvans' Behind the Bastards subreddit for this. You mention that you think that depicting an Asian man with cartoonishly yellow skin might be related to the Yellow Peril racist trope and all of a sudden it's "The Chinese started it!" and "it's just because Xi doesn't like it!".
Yet when you point out that similar racist tropes like the mascots for certain American sports teams are racist caricatures with cartoonishly colored skin (red in this case) and that people understand that as racist and it's crickets from them
Crossposting because it was so hard to find anything about this online that wasnt some slanderous Wow Xi is so sensitive, what a baby -NPR
I saw I'd had a comment removed, thought about why, and took ten minutes to do some 'research' and self reflection. Thank you to the comrade who called me out.
If you’re hesitant of portraying Obama with big ears and big lips even though “every other president is depicted the same way,” but then you should think about why you’re okay with depicting Xi as some yellow guy
Now this is something I won't get behind. No one in a great mind would think that Winnie the Pooh's skin colour is of any importance on attacking Xi. Otherwise, another person that always get used together as a meme, that's Obama, a black person is depicted as Tigger, which doesn't make a damn sense. Let me tell how this meme is being used for over a decade, especially in Chinese social media: troll with Winnie the Pooh and put everyone as a character from the cartoon series. What does that mean? It means every politician that wants to appear serious, stoic or charismatic are just a target to be satirised. As simple is. Another troll is to criticise arbitrary censorship in China. Yes, it's still banned to mention "ç¶ĺ°Ľâ€ť, but there's an alternative name for it “噗噗熊”, and selling merchandises about them are completely fine. There's nothing racist about this meme, unless some stupid unfunny reactionaries use it simply because of the skin colour, in which I've never seen it has been done this way, in Anglosphere or Sinosphere.

It's precisely presence of Obama as Tigger (T->N don't tell me you didn't see this) which makes me 100% certian that this is very racist picture. Not to mention all the racists posting it around internet.

I literally remember chuds back in the day purposely going out of the way to use words that rhymed with the n word when they were talking about Obama and then pretend they weren't being racist, you'd have to be stupid to not understand how obviously it's just overt racism.
