Finally fixed my torrent ratio

I'll admit, when I first started torrent I was not really familiar with how it worked and how important seeding was. I would just use magnet links without configuration to save the torrent and seed after completion. Well.. I have finally, got myself back to 1.00 after a couple months and working to try to always seed double what I get for each torrent.

Often times I was one of the few random seeders available for some of these torrents. Friendly reminder to give back because you never know when you're one of the rare cases that can complete someones long lost file download!

Private trackers enforce ratios, and good private trackers reward long-term seeding, which is part of why I like private trackers.
I'm very proud of my CG account that turns seventeen next month.

- I have yet to get a positive ratio on anything I've ever downloaded from a private tracker. Always have to sit and wait to accumulate points in their seeding time system... It's annoying because otherwise I'd be seeding a lot more shit for them.
  
  The trick is to use autodl-irssi or autobrr to download the torrent the second it gets added to the tracker. As long as you have a very fast internet connection, you will usually be over 1:1 before it finishes downloading.

  Yeah, this is also a problem though. I'd love to be on a private tracker as I was in the past, but once you're out it's just too much of a hassle to get back in.
  
  Buying your way into TL via seedbox promo is a solid way to get started. This won't help for other sites but TL is miles better than all other public sites still available.
  
  last time I gave out an invite to an internet rando I had to check with staff if it was allowed, it was, but the person never used their account so I just wasted an invite

  I'm honestly surprised CG has survived this long. Most of the other trackers I was on from that era are long gone.
  Oink's Pink Palace gone, What gone, baconBits gone, cheggit gone... I think the only two other than CG that still exist are indietorrents and empornium. I'm old now so the porn trackers no longer appeal to me.
- There's a private sports tracker I've heard of that rewards long-term seeding. What's cool about that is that most sports events are only relevant for a few days and then people move on, this is especially true for big fans of certain teams who want the latest event. But, if you reward people for seeding, they'll just keep some random game or event around for months. That means that if something suddenly becomes relevant months later, you can probably still find it.

  What is a private tracker?
  A private tracker is a torrent website that provides the same functionality as a public tracker but is invite-only. This means you need to be a member to view the contents of the site and download its torrents. A tracker can either be semiprivate, where you can create an account for free by just registering your details, or fully private, where another user has to invite you. Within a tracker, there is usually an extensive set of rules covering how much one can download, what kind of content one can upload, what precautions one must take when logging into the site, etc. Such rules and content vary from tracker to tracker, and go from rather liberal with little enforcement to ultra-paranoid and autistic
  
  Usually they give users points of credit to download more torrents: Users that don't seed will burn through their download credits and won't be able to download.
  Other trackers will also give you points for every hour you seed a torrent (usually X points per gigabyte per hour) which encourages seeding even if the given file isn't as popular, or so popular that other seeders choke you out of uploading to other users.

My rule of thumb has always been to share to ratio 1.1. Side thought: Maybe there's a funny correlation between birthrates needing to be 2.1 for a stable population, the extra .1 to make up for deaths, and well, the 2 is because it takes two to make a baby.

  I did go out of my way to check creation date and modified date on those folders to try and assess whether I had copied the statistics over from my distrohop. Might've been old stats plus new, I'm not too sure. I should really start using cp -a instead of just drag'n'drop in dolphin..

  Edit: seems like that one person in the swarm has to have port forwarding enabled. So if you can't port forward, you need someone else to and then you can upload to them.

- AirVPN is the other choice here that offers port forwarding still.
When I am seeding a torrent with less than 5 seeders I just let it go forever. So far I have about 15 of those. Eventually I’ll have to drop them… but I’ll be there hero until then.

Took me a while to find the stats tab, I didnt know it was available lol
I miss eMule though. I always loved to share some rare exotic stuff and see someone decided they want that and I provided it. It's not just about bandwidth, though I had pretty big numbers there. Torrents just don't hit the same.

  I know, but I still miss my donkey. It was slow but stubborn and always delivered eventually. Also it was mesmerizing watching all the clients and traffic happening and watching KAD nodes visualization. Good times. It's still there but because it now always connects with LowID it doesn't work as good as it did with HighID...

  Problem is how most networks are configured today that prevent HighID on eMule, severely crippling it. It used to be annoying to have LowID in the past and reconnecting usually fixes it, now it's a given and you can't get out of it. It's so hard to get uploads going and it makes me sad :(

I always lose my seeds because I like to rename my files. Any workarounds?

  I change the directory in my client. This moves the download to my preferred location for plex, etc. And it seeds from there instead
- Keep the files in a dedicated torrents folder then make symlinks to where you actually want them?
- Hardlinking files to their new destination and your normalized naming schema. Using symlinks would be madness.
Those are rookie numbers. You need to pump those numbers up.

Ratios are a things of a past. I'm having trouble getting ratios as all of the torrents I have are straight zeros in the upload section. I still keep them around for a while just out of habit, but just to verify it's working I've downloaded some random file with high leech ratio. Got it in fast, but upload is now going at less than 5% the upload capacity. Back in late 00s running torrents would instantly saturate the entirety of my 10mbit connection, and I'd like to think that terabytes I've seeded during that time make up for my abysmal ratios nowadays. But the reality is that there just simply is enough seeders already, and as a result the trackers I frequent to either dropped it entirely or switched to a scoring system based on how much and for how long people store obscure torrents that only few people seed, but I'm too short on drive space to participate in that.
My seed ratio is 1.2. I'd seed more, but I download a lot of different things and my home server is limited on space at the moment.
- I get a gig down but only 50mbps up (fucking spectrum), so I gotta limit seeding the same way or I'd just crush my upload speed all the time.
  
  Spectrum is the shittiest company known to man. Double and triple billing, they bill a month ahead so your paying for service you haven't yet used, horrible speed my as well be false advertising, customer support is terrible. They fraud charged and upsold services to get discounts which was a lock you in contract scam price. All time worst companies ever.

- You can always get a seedbox (if you’re able and willing to spend a few bucks a month on a seedbox)
I just use a Debrid service for my torrents now. Consistent 1Gbps download speeds and no ratios to worry about. It's way better (and cheaper) than a private tracker or a seedbox.

  No more than I would if I used a Torrent client instead of Debrid. You're still downloading the same torrents as everyone else. (I don't really understand the question.)

I just round it down to 0 kb(B)/s to prevent brain overhead
What are you using? I need to carve time out to get my unraid server to work with jellyfin and arr and seed with deluge. My current set up moves the files to the right folder once I have completed my download so I never get over 1.0 ratio.
