Yep, fair enough! Getting into politics is usually either out of necessity, or exposure to those who are already into politics. My first exposure to an ML was in high school, which was also when I first started genuinely grappling with my coming atheism, so even though I rejected ML (then) it pushed me more into politics. In college it was more of an exposure to anarchism thing.
I'd say I began my political journey in high school. Went through the "classical liberal" phase, was an anarchist for a while, then a weird pseudo ultraleft/cooperative focused "Marxist," then finally settled around ML, more accurately ML-MZT/XJT. The biggest accelerant to my political journey was working in an industrial environment right out of college, that ended up driving me to genuinely take theory more seriously.
I made sure to include generally before, I get what you mean. There's no one recipe, oppose book worship and all that, but as a useful rule of thumb if a country that is being imperialized has a nationalist uprising against imperialism, it's almost certainly a progressive movement contextually.
Hexbear is explicitly anti-capitalist and anti-liberal. We're a bunch of Marxists and anarchists, and we aren't apologetic about it. That's the crux of the matter, really, those who oppose communism tend to oppose Hexbear.
A lot of the hate against Hexbear relies on deliberate misinterpretation, but a lot of it is as simple as the anti-Hexbear crowd being right-wing. There's also the "leftists" that oppose Hexbear because of a lack of correct understanding of theory and leftist history. There are also the people that don't vibe with Hexbear's more shitposty vibes.
Lemmy.world's admins and many moderators are anti-Marxist, so that's why they defederated here and Lemmygrad.
If you consider yourself a Marxist or an anarchist, there's a good chance you'll fit in! If not, and you're interested in learning about Marxism or anarchism, then you'll also fit in! Welcome!
Right now I'm almost done with Control, before it I finished Red Dead Redemption 2. While I had a lot of fun with RDR2, the ~80 hour runtime for a single playthrough almost drove me to hate it near the end. Probably going for Psychonauts 2 next, or some short 4-5 hour games, maybe Deltarune.
It's simple. Generally, nationalism in colonized and imperialized countries is progressive, as it moves against imperialism and (often) ethnic repression and genocide. Nationalism in the imperialist countries is deeply reactionary, it maintains imperialism, and causes ethnic repression and genocide.
That's why nationalist "socialist" groups in imperialist countries like MAGA "communists" are deeply founded in chauvanism and are closer to fascism than any flavor of socialism.
It's nice to see Volume 2's themes of capital as it exists in motion and circulation come into full view right from the get-go. Marx's style of analyzing a single concept from different viewpoints to learn more and reveal more about subjects is in full-force. Excited to keep reading!
Funny enough, I did used to be a V60 person, and I did used to be an anarchist, haha. Though I'm ML now and there are no lever/manual espresso machines listed up there, so it doesn't match anymore. Looks like the aeropress is also missing, that's another big one.
Stop procrastinating reading, me...
