What are these "bass" and "treble" that I see in an equalizer ?

I am not an audio person, so do not have much idea about technical terms - but I hear the words "bass" and "treble" almost everywhere now, especially in the equalizer app that came with  a new bluetooth earbuds that I bought (yes, I am still very much a wired-earbud guy, just dipping my toes in the wireless earbud ocean).

So what do these "bass" and "treble" mean? I guess I hear the sounds to be different when I monkey around with the equalizer. The sound is slightly deep/full for "bass" and less so for "treble".

Is that all?

  • YouTube: Google has found a way to break Invidious
  • It says that Piped is affected as well. This is probably a dumb question from me, but I use NewPipe in my phone to access YT - and it did not cause any trouble yet. I heard that the Piped project also uses NewPipe Extractor under the hood (which basically scrapes YT website). So why would Piped break but not NewPipe ?

  • Goodbye [old].[reddit].[com]

For a while Reddit dot com has been blocking my browser since I use a VPN, but old reddit was still functional for me. Although I closed my reddit account just after the API-exodus, I still frequent the niche communities which has hyper-specific topics discussed.

Found to my surprise today that they are now blocking old reddit as well if I use a VPN.

Never thought that \[old].\[reddit].\[com] would one day show that f'kin "Whoa there Pardner" page.

Fuck you spez. Really, fuck you.

  • Alternative to Multi-Account Container for Firefox Android ?

    Basically title.

Is there an alternative to Multi-Account Container for Firefox Android ? It seems that add on has not yet been released in AMO for android, and I use that Add-on in my firefox installed in another device (Windows), so was wondering if there is an option for Android. Thanks !

  • Not an email service per se, but rather an email-forwarding service, and offers unlimited duck [dot] com aliases with their browser extension and/or mobile app.

I have used their email forwarding service for a while (it is quite decent) before moving over to Firefox Relay.

  • Good question.

  • Lemmy.world blocks VPNs

Basically the title. I use MullVad, and recently discovered that Lemmy.world is not allowing me to submit new posts or commenting on others' posts if I have my VPN on.

For now I have excluded my Lemmy client of choice (Voyager) from my VPN, so things are back to normal.

As a reason behind this, I read elsewhere that this blocking of VPN is intentional as certain people posted CSAM while behind VPN. This is pretty despicable, so I totally support shutting those people out.

However, on that same note, I think it is fair to assume that every post and comment on Lemmy is stored along with the IP address of the User. Is that right?

    -----

Edit : Some readers are confirming that they can write posts and comments in Lemmy.world while on a VPN - and I wholeheartedly thank them. I only posted what I personally (and some other lemmings as well) experienced. I still do not know if this is a widespread problem or only happening to a few.

Aldi plans to open 800 new locations in the US as Americans feel pinch of high food prices
  • New England resident here. I find Aldi to be alright. The lower price point is definitely noticeable, especially when you compare with other big players in the area like ShopRite and Stop&Shop.

I switched over to Aldi since 2020, they are quite decent when it comes to the basics.

Good to know they are expanding. Aldi's Sister concern Trader Joe's is already heavily present in the New England region, although I suspect they have a more 'niche' group of customers.

  • Why is it legal to buy and sell used books/discs but illegal to buy and sell used digital files?
  • Logically yes, downloading or a sharing a digital file is a "lost sale" - but as Aaron Swartz said - "lost sales" are also caused by Earthquakes, Libraries/DVD Rentals, Negative Yelp reviews, Market Competitors, and so on. Why just blame it on file sharing...

  • Why do crumbles always settle at the bottom, like in a bag of chips, or a box of cereals?

    Basically title.

My basic physics knowledge says that the larger chips - near the top of a bag of chips - are not "stable", they are kinda precariously balanced only at one or two points. But once the brittle chips break down, they tend to settle at the bottom because the crumbles are more "stable" there, and are at a lower state of potential energy.

Just my own theory, but would like to know what others think here.

Edit : Does this question not belong to this community ? I couldn't explain the downvotes..

Dealing with a BS "Billing Desk" [USA]

What are my options when my provider sends me a bill without submitting a claim with my med insurance, and is ignoring my repeated requests to submit the claim and send me a revised bill post-settlement? How do I prove that I do not owe the billed amount, and I do not owe them anything until they claim it through my insurance first?

Unfortunately, I did encounter something very similar with a previous provider - and I naively decided to wait and watch when their "billing desk" was busy ignoring my requests to submit the claim first - just to get to the day when they sent it to collections. Dealing with collections is another nightmare, and while it went in my favor at that time, I promptly left that provider and switched to another.

So I want to be cautious here this time, because although the "billing desk" of my provider might be a bunch of inefficient a-holes, I don't want to deal with collections again.

Would welcome any insights ! Thanks !
