My short wishlist for today:
Clive Palmer to have a shower slipping accident with a brass instrument
As a Malvernite, I'll be devastated if Kooyong actually votes Amelia in, too many of her signs on houses in my suburb.
All those, plus:
They would all be good things. I'm also hopeful that my local member, Michael Sukkar, might lose his seat as well. It was very close last time - it looked like he had lost initially, then it swung back to him as the postal votes were counted. He won on a 0.2% margin, and I saw some recent polling saying he is now predicted to be leading by 0.02%, so it really could go either way.
I have a friend who lives in that seat! It was only a few hundred votes which is crazy 🗳
YES
I'm a bit worried because Kooyong did get redistributed to include the extra rich out-of-touch boomer folks in Armadale and Malvern (?)
This Canadia wishes you Aussies the best possible outcome! You can do it!
Discussion about the federal election is allowed and encouraged.
Criticism about candidates, parties and pundits are all welcome.
Don’t be afraid to use the report function, a screenshot if you feel the need to.
Keep it civil and if you disagree with another user, you can either disagree with them courteously or simply down-vote and not reply.
I feel a good life is possible , with opportunities and fairness, for the young seagoons , and all aussies 😭
i would not have had that feeling if the libs got in
we need to better manage our natural resources and taxation and then we will be gold like scandinavia
Even though I care not for the spud, after Trump and the shenanigans about stolen elections, I am proud that I live somewhere where elections are called and there is some basic civility around the gracious defeat speech then the victory speech. This might be the bottle of bubbly talking...
He handled that well, I can give him that. On what's clearly a challenging day for him personally, he's been quite dignified in defeat
It was nice to see a regular professional concession speech again.
Fuck yeaaaaaah
Beep Beep 🚚
🍧🍰🧁🥧🍦🍨🎂🍮🍭🍬🍫🥜🌰🍪🍿🍯🥛☕️🍵🍺🍶🥤🧋🧃🥂🍷🥃🍸🍹🧉🔋
Champers all round I reckon. Victoria deserves it. Slightly less political idiocy than usual, though there's still plenty to go around.
Champagne for me please, and a big drink of water for the fire trucks I keep hearing drive past. I'm presuming it's my local MPs chances of keeping his seat going up in flames.
Popcorn and a nice single malt please
Can't believe it's already been called, this is wild.
Fuck yeah!!!!!!!!! Antony Green called it for Labor and WA has barely closed lmao
Check it out, following all the way from the Soup:
Kids party next door. Adults talking politics and getting fairly heated. Kids playing pass the parcel and pin the tail on the donkey. Much noise. Pray for me.
My booth had more people on the cake and sausage stalls then out the front with fliers. That's something a lot of countries wouldn't understand and I think it's awesome. Democracy done. School supported and choc chip bickkies in mah tummy
I saw our Labor candidate posing for pics with a sausage in his face. If he does that at every booth today he certainly won't need dinner.
We begin our day cleaning cat sick out of carpet. Things can only improve from here, right?
This is a metaphor. Right.
Thank god I voted early. I woke up feeling both barrels of the New Sickness one of the boys has. To top it off, he didn't want me in the bed with him after I gave him medicine after 1am so I went and slept on the couch.
Last thing I'd want to do whilst sick and after a terrible sleep is my civic duty.
I voted early so I wouldn't have to wait long on the day, then I went with someone who didn't vote early and spent over an hour in line with them anyway.
Damn, the worst of both worlds.
Same here, even though the line was longer than I thought I feel like complete rubbish at the moment.
I haven't voted on election day for the last couple. And I haven't done it in Melbourne. I'd hate to see how long it would take here when absentee voting took so long in the country.
Right. 6 pm. Heeeere we gooooooo!
St Antony mathematics for us
Praise Antony Green 🙌🏼 the beautiful tone of his voice fills my living room this cold night
I'm firing up the ABC on my laptop while I've still got a few hours before my flight. Excited
I'm settled in with a bowl of pumpkin soup and a cheesymite scroll to await some results. 🤞
I'm nervous.
People here probably don't need the warning but the Trumpet of Patriot policies are sleazily disingenuous
He is almost sounding Left wing.
As if he wants to tax his own iron ore exports 15%. He refused to even pay his workers their entitlements.
Free education from Clive?
Cutting number of immigrants is unlikely since he wants to exploit them. All right wingers after like this: They are not interested in sensible intake numbers, only in stoking racism and division.
Even the net zero thing could be naively interpreted as: "we won't promise but we will try for net zero".
The superannuation thing could massively be thought to imply: "we will strengthen pensions instead".
He definitely won't raise minimum wages or NewStart to ensure families don't go hungry.
Anyone who doesn't know Palmer is a piece of shit is maliciously ignorant at this point.
I hesitate to say he is full of shit because shit has more substance than the lies he has been spouting via SMS.
I think he is being as contrarian as possible to lift up his pet I dependants. His party should receive no votes, but he wants to divert those angry votes to the Independents that still take his money.
If you vote independent, (which I believe everyone should), make sure it is for someone who is honest about where their funding is coming from.
However, I’m sure that if anyone campaigned on changes to the SPAM ACT to remove political exemption, they would win by a landslide.
An email or SMS seeking to influence your vote or opinion is rarely covered by these rules – they do not need your consent to send it, and do not need to include an unsubscribe.
One friend was getting multiple spams on his phone each day from Clive (from different numbers) with no way to legally stop it.
Oh yeah don’t worry I peeped them
Antony has just called it.
Labor wins government, possibly with a large majority.
He what. This soon?
Peter Dutton looks to be out of his seat.
This soon indeed!
The most important thing now is to see if Purple Pingerz makes the Senate
I need a guy in the senate who's nickname is purple pingers
With all the crazy names politicians have a Senator Purple Pingaz would be a nice change
Cracked 26min at my Parkrun this morning and felt really good too... 😳
Happy with the results, now time to put my local MP through the wringer so she actually addresses the real problems.
Yes. Hopefully now they will have the spine to pass some of the environment and EPBC Act commitments they made last election
I think I can talk about AEC work now that I've withdrawn. The offer I got was Sat night, 8pm start, minimum wage ($30.14), expected 3am finish (casual, maybe early dismissal) counting votes at an OPC (cold warehouse). I wouldn't take that shift for any job TBH. Maybe I'm being too picky but that's atrocious pay and hours for a one off ~7 hour job.
Fuck all that. You'd think they could offer more considering what the job actually is.
They gave me a two month window then two days notice for sat night at shit pay. I'm in bed by 9pm most days, I'd be falling asleep on the job.
Isn't the day of $800 for any hours?
I feel like some would take the $30/h just to be in it for the main day.
Dad's involved in the counting for Kooyong. Obviously he's limited to very simple communications, but he sounds like he's having a ball
I'm very interested in the results for kooyong tbh
Majority government is good, they might actually get some shit done. The LNP will be very weak, like in Vic, which isn't actually great for democracy going forward, but maybe it'll convince them that they need to be less super right wing and they'll ultimately end up as a more moderate party. Maybe.
Things have been going almost comically far right with the Libs in recent years so I hope this is finally the wake up call for them (although tbh I'd rather hope they die and there's more smaller parties that rise up from the ashes)
Agree, a democracy needs a competent opposition to keep government accountable, regardless of which side is in power. I hope the libs choose someone more centrist and less thug for the next leader. I feel like their party has become stacked with more extreme right wingers over the last decade so probably unlikely.
As I said earlier, voters are never wrong. They can't be.
If the far right bull isn't something voters respond to, they'll have to change if they ever want to win those votes back
We'll miss Antony Green. What a legend.
I guess Casey Briggs got a test run during Covid when people were calling him "the Antony Green of death", and he'll be good, but it won't be the same.
I reckon he will grow into it.
Fascinating watching the abc at the moment, the libs won’t own up to their mistakes and talk crap.
It’s honestly embarrassing.
It's almost mean to subject them to the Sarah Ferguson/ Laura Tingle double act. But it's very entertaining. And a reminder that good journalism is important to hold these self-important wankers to account.
It's pretty telling they didn't have an actual MP willing to sit in the ABC panel.
Done! Now show me the senate 😺
Well it’s done. I didn’t have to wait as long as I thought for the result. I was thinking Labour would win, but thought it would be a narrower result. I can rest easy tonight, and hopefully wake up to news Dutton has lost his seat.
No waiting needed then! What an embarrassment for their campaign, leader looses his seat. Hopefully they will take a serious look at the direction the party has gone in and realise it’s not what Australia wants.
time for some sleep, I've spent the day busy and also some comfort eating
I feel like I can make plans for the future knowing there aren't fascists in power
sweet dreams everyone 😘
It's good isn't it. Sleep well. Good dreams
Looking forward to seeing the results, having some nachos and wishing for a better future for all of us
You're all enjoying the count. The polls haven't even shut here yet
It's odd to me that we don't hold all vote counting until the final electorate closure, to avoid influence of early outcomes.
Wow. The Coalition guy speaking now on ABC is being amazingly honest. I'm impressed
It was a nice change from what I’ve been hearing.
Was interesting seeing how much the states swung. It was originally projected by the media that they were going to get a minority government but instead they took 14 seats from the libs.
Not as close as I thought it was going to be.
Wow. Turning up to Victoria and trashing it was not a great strategy for the Libs. /s
I'm not sure who this Liberal on the ABC is but he's edging closer to a full tantrum and I am here for it.
I've laughed out loud nearly every time he's talked.
Old mate is in a world of pain right now
the weird fucking thing is a labor gov is better for everyone, even old mates
Someone need to get him a scotch pretty soon
Lib-Bot NPC
Pre poll, pre poll, pre poll... pull that string again
Very dangerous drinking game
Trying to convince the p's to 'let' me install a grab rail in their shower.
There is so much stigma to it it's ridiculous.
Come out of the shower with fake blood running down your face and say you slipped.
Grab rails are also handy when I'm cleaning the shower and don't want to step in.
It's a great place to hang the face flannel.
Actually that might help persuade them.
When my very frail (and very stubborn) MIL stayed with us when recovering from an injury, I had grab rails installed in the shower and next to the loo. She got really angry and refused to use them.
I’ve found them really handy though, both for holding on to and propping things on in the shower and for lifting myself off the loo after too much ‘leg day’ exercise.
Maybe try to sell them as chunky towel rails and shampoo holders?
The school down the road did not have a barbecue, or food of any kind. But I had a nice chat with one of the canvassers while in line.
I've done my duty in the Tropical Soup 🫡 things are far more streamlined here because we're lucky to have any kind of opposition at all in the first place, and there's only one house in the government, and it's just FPTP without preferential voting... Got in and out in about 3.5 minutes and used an inked stamp to press X on one of two boxes.
I wish I could vote in Australia but that likely won't happen until my mum passes away and I can finally let go of my original citizenship. So for now I will live vicariously through everyone else - and have to tolerate 7 hours of uncertainty on the flight that leaves just as polls close 😭
Oh Antony Green. Bless
I am an an honest to goodness train eeeeeee
I think I have been on a train about five times in my ~10 years in Melbourne
Damn, it was called early. What happened? I thought it was going to be a close one.
Dutton happened :)
And he loses his seat too, nothing better.
Change of plans. Weather shit, so will quokka another day. Have caught train to Freo
Are you going to check out the the prison?
They may not let me out now I'm here
Antony Green said it so it's true!
The 'live' results on the abc news live coverage have been updated after a couple of hours of just sitting there static - Labour = 81 seats!
EDIT: Now 84 seats.
86 now
senate 🤞

Docker flavoured fudge
That’s very purple. Thought it was soap on 1st glance
Blackberry fudge. Tasted it before I bought it
I still think it's soap.
Noooooooooo
Fear not, I tried it before I bought it. Quite nice blackberry stuff
Don’t forget tonight, it’s between you and me buddy!
I have yet to find my pub for the evening to watch it
That looks delicious
Postal vote ready to be witnessed and mailed right after, and my antibiotic script here to fill. I’m really not feeling tops but need to sort these things out, try and get out of these weeds.
I fumbled an earlier dental appointment and was extremely upset about it but touch wood I can be seen this week.
Happy voting day, everyone. Eat your sausage
You know that bit where Mr Burns laughs at the injured Irishman....? Can someone redo that but with Dutton losing?
Edit- this one
Home made kofta kebabs, retro video games, music and cat cuddles.
Heaven.
I’m already stressing about results. What if I somehow miscalculated and helped allow dipshits in. Too late now.
I wish I could distract myself
Your single vote will not empower dipshits.
Even if it could...voters are never wrong. Sometimes the choices of voters have unforeseen consequences, but as a voter exercising your rights you cannot make a wrong choice doing it. Whatever you picked is right.
I think that any one voter can still have voted "wrong" in terms of their own beliefs and desires though?
I just didn’t have time to research properly, and wasn’t familiar with a couple of independent candidates.
I did a quick google and put them just ahead of Pauline Hanson but am wondering if there were any things I missed. Whether my choices aligned with what I wanted.
voting done, no sossage, safe labor seat, no liberal canvassers
ewaste taken to drop off centre
bunnings run done, got paint for furniture, semi gloss kara sea colour and some new brushes
walk down beach , today there was a bloke in a straw boater hat standing out on the sand flats playing guitar to his dog
a little bit of gardening done
time for coffee and a little lunch
omg, those are some huge swings to Lab. I think it's the trump effect. We don't want cunts like that or cunts who support trump in.
I've been worried for months that too many Australian's where like Trump's supporters.
I have a bad feeling
I am starting very slowly to hope but too scared to admit it
Has this ever happened before? Has the opposition leader ever lost their seat in an election. It feels huge
My train ride home intersected with a bucks party. Nice boys
My first choice of polling booth had no democracy sausages so of course I left to find another with them.
The entrance to this polling booth is quite narrow so I got assaulted with how to vote pamphlets on entry with nowhere to run.
Mine had run out of sausages when I got there at 1pm. Undemocratic I reckon.
I was so tired. Slept way past midday.
Plans for operation laundry have been set back :(
Still doing it though not sure it’ll be dry by tomorrow.

Sossige, cawfee, passionfruit sponge and some choc chip muffins please. All gluten free. I kid you not, my local booth had a separate BANK of tables marked variously 'halal', 'gluten free', 'dairy free' and 'vegan'. Well separated from the carnivore heaven on the other side of the playground but downwind, which gave me a chuckle.
🌭☕️🥵🍊🧽🍫🧁
1 sausage for democracy please.

A train is sossig and beer and dumpling

I did the vote compass quiz thing, just to see where I land. Smack bang between Greens and ALP apparently lol.
I saw there is a rep for a Libertarian party in my seat, so I went to their website to check their policies and this gave me a chuckle
Stop treating me like a CHILD! I want to RIDE HORSES and PROSPECT in Victoria's National Parks! I'm an ADULT and I want THE GOLD RUSH AGAIN!
Edit:
The same person would be complaining of they saw what the masses would do to it, once it's gone it's gone.
We have surplus land that doesn't need protection from unrestrained greed.
That meme 🤣🤣bloody classic!
It's one of my favourite memes 😂
It’s great to have got the libs out.
But I still feel uneasy. In addition to Cheeto Chaplin’s attacks the UK recently ruled that trans women legally aren’t women and are banned from women’s bathrooms, and so of course in Australia there have been recent protests against trans people and against anti-hate speech laws protecting LGBTIA+.
The arsetrumpet catchphrase about not needing to be welcomed to your “own country” (it’s not white peoples country) led to it being shouted and booed at an Indigenous elder speaking at an Anzac service.
There’s also been a lot of anti-immigration sentiments being fomented and backlash against harm reduction like injecting rooms. Even with the election over that has to have stirred a certain element up.
Regardless of laws Australia picks up culture wars like a sponge.
Also on a personal level there are groups that I can’t form community and solidarity with past an ideological level due to the credible risk of harm to me. 😐 I both support harm minimisation but can’t do irl outreach like volunteering with people who have been intimidating me, stealing from me and trying to break into my house.
I could lobby for methadone to be subsidised to try and reduce the desperation and crime in my area but I don’t have the resources for activism, particularly the organised kind. I’m barely keeping myself and puss alive.
And the left loves eating itself. I’m hesitant to get involved with any of the groups even if I was well enough. Purity spirals I’ve experienced in the past actually led to me distancing myself for a long time and it seems to be kicking up again.
Also marginalised groups I’m trying to be an ally to online (according to actions they’ve said they want) are locked in a defensive stance, reacting with suspicion and shade.
No idea what I could even do that wouldn’t be derided as performative and tokenistic
For some totally non-election related discussion: what is your preferred style of bed? I'm seeing a lot of fabric covered bed heads around, and I really don't like that idea from a cleaning/hygiene perspective.
I'm looking at a dark stained wood frame bed, a fairly minimal design with raised legs and no footboard. My current bed is nearly 30 years old, the options have changed considerably since then.
Woodframe all the way. Fabric heads scream hotel to me, and I want the storage and ventilation of a non solid base. And no need for those hideous frilly things.
Fabric headboards are a complete pain to keep clean, especially if you have pets. The amount of hair that accumulates is mindblowing, and I worry about fleas/bedbugs etc. as they're impossible to wash or clean properly. I have a wrought iron decorative head & foot, with sturdy iron rails holding them apart and sturdy slats. Its quite tall - mid thigh when standing next to it, but the underbed space holds my two spare guest mattresses easily and more besides.
Slats are a major point of failure in cheap beds, so if you get a Cpt Snooze or Fantastic Furniture bed, replace the slats with tongue & groove boards laid a little apart for ventilation. This also prevents cats from climbing up into the mattress from below and getting squashed by the coils (if any).
Am also a fan of minimalist wood frame. Latex mattress to seal the deal.
Generally whatever has been $50-$100 bucks on gumtree. Mostly some kind of wood number. Head, foot, rails and slats. Were I to buy something I'd be looking at included storage.
Some years ago my dream would have been to have every cm of space under the bed usable for storage, possibly with a bookshelf headboard too. These days I'm trying to be more minimalist, plus I have more room in general, so I'm prioritising a more open design that lets my pets wander freely underneath.
I like solid beds , a nice height to sit on, no fabric, not rickety
I recently bought a bed from Quokka Beds. They are a little joint in Perth that premake beds out of wood. I got one out of Tassie oak. Really simple. Easy to put together and I am really happy with it.
Edit: I had previously slept on a mattress on a couple of pallets so I also appreciate simple
Mine's probably 25 years old and the slats don't stay in place well, my next bed will have a better set up I think.
Dark stained wood with no foot sounds like a winner.
As for frame, I'm strongly against fabric bases, horrible for mold.
Personally I'd go 100% metal base, maybe stained wood if I could guarantee mold free.
I can't say I've ever had mould on my wood furniture. I have had a metal base which was cheaply made and bent after very little use, so I'm a bit wary of metal frames. It was when I was a teenager and money was pretty tight, Mum managed to buy my sister and I new bed frames to replace the tatty second hand wood ones we'd had since we first moved into full beds, and within a year they had both broken and we ended up sleeping on matresses on the floor for a few years.
I can has sossig
Now we wait until it is time for St Antony
Interesting. I was aware of Vote Compass, but the Build a Ballot was new to me. Will save that for next time.
I got partway through Vote Compass, until it started asking Data Harvesting questions. Why does it need my Income, gender and gender identity to tell me how to vote? Religion should also be irrelevant!
The answers were pretty generic too. How many asylum seekers should we let in? “At least as many as required by UN obligations.” None of this “Much More”, “More”, “Same”, “Less”, “Much Less” rubbish!
I knew I would lure you in with the Witch Party link 🧹
Another video of an option boss I took down.
The music in this one is pretty awesome, I love the soundtrack to this so much.
Expedition 33 - Chromatic Ballet
Sorry if I’m being annoying with these.
I heard this game is French persona. Plus it's made by former ubisoft devs, so it's great to see them get out of there and do their own thing.
I'm enjoying your videos. 🙂 n/k
Thanks!
I watch about half of it and it looks awesome. It looked like you should die a bunch of times but idk what in looking at
With this in particular the only real way to damage these bosses are to completely parry their attacks which is very strict timing.
They’re also floating bosses so have about a 80% dodge rate on all attacks sans counter attacks via parry or jumping.
Edit: also I was using items and spells to bring back my team at points because I copped some really bad hits.
Keep posting them, please!
If an Independent senate candidate (eg Liz) reaches a quota after counting of first preferences and she is 129 votes in excess. Which 129 ballots get preferences distributed?
Not explained in this video.
All 930 votes have their second preferences distributed, because there's no way to determine which individual ballots are the excess.
The key is that the second preferences are transferred at a reduced rate proportional to the excess. i.e. (excess votes for Liz) divided by (total votes for Liz). In this case 129/930 = 0.13. All second preferences on ballots that first preferences Liz are distributed "worth" 0.13 votes.
See the Transferring the surplus section on this official AEC information.
Edit: This is explained in the video you linked from 4:31 by the way.
You champion! That makes sense. Sorry, I didn't think the video would backtrack to correct their initial simplifiction.
I usually have white noise or something on while I sleep. Last night was too lazy and my dreams were amazing and vivid.
Then I got woken up
classic cat but you need to wipe the camera on your phone, so fuzzy :P
Lol good point
I've been thinking about cleaning off the consoles and setting them up around my desk; my second monitor is actually a small TV so I could plug them in. Mainly because I want to play the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy, and Halo.
I think, out of all the Halo games, my favourites are ODST and Reach. I know it's silly, but in Reach I could play as a female Spartan and that was fucking awesome to me.
I always forget that the seat of Bradfield exists.
The Bradfields are my people. There has been at least one famous one
Dan Teehan talks like he's very disappointed with his 2nd grade class lol
I stupidly only numbered 5 instead of 6 above the line in the Senate. Is my vote counted?
Even if I numbered 6, I risked exhausting my vote since I did not number Lab or Lib anywhere. One really should number as many as possible.
It'll still count afaik
Although my intention was clear I don't think my vote will count. This is what the AEC says when I practice, numbering only 5 boxes.
I was hoping it would just say "you risk your vote being exhausted".
And in the section on "vote saving provisions" it says:
For Senate ballot papers the requirement for a formal vote is that when voting above the line, at least the numbers 1 to 6 shall be marked in the squares on the ballot paper (see subsection 239(2)).
For voting below the line, the requirement is that at least the numbers 1 to 12 are marked in the squares printed on the ballot paper (see subsection 239(1)). However, there is a vote savings measure that can operate where only one square is marked above the line (see section 269), or where voting below the line, at least six squares have been marked 1 to 6 using consecutive numbers (see section 268A).
I wandered in to my poling place wearing a TShirt by a Band that is favoured by the Progressive Political People.
The drone handing out A3-sized Greens How-To-Vote broadsheets offered me one and I said “no thankyou”. He aggressively replied “Typical!” to his contracted colleagues.
One of them then thrust the so-big-it-was-impossible to read Labor HTV card at me, “what about one of these ones”.
I decided to jump on my anti-HTV soapbox and let them all have it with both barrels, including describing them as a “Corruption of Our democracy”.
The next 5 voters who queued also declined HTV cards.
When the Environmentalist party is littering the suburbs with non-recyclable single-use plastic corflutes, fastened to signs with single-use plastic cable-ties and then wasting paper like this, you really have to wonder about their commitment to the Environment.
Corflutes and HTVs are used widely by all parties, not just the Greens. But the Greens are the target of your critique because someone allegedly hurt your feelings? (Both materials are 100% recyclable, by the way.)
I'm more concerned about the dozens of new coal and gas project approvals under Labor. Billions of tonnes of pollution is a bit more impactful that a few thousand printed pamphlets and signs, that everyone else is doing anyway.
Guarantee your outburst was completely pointless and quickly forgotten.
My feelings are not hurt, my tolerance for hypocrisy is what being tested.
Don’t get me wrong, the Greens are currently the only way out of the Fossil-Fuel-Funded Two Party system we are currently in, but do they really need to do the exact opposite of what they are campaigning for?
Things that are 100% recyclable are not always (actually hardly ever) recycled at all, let alone to 100%. They should be using biodegradable, renewable materials, or even better, don’t publish them in the first place. The absence Greens Junk Mail would be a better message to send their constituents than continuing to status quo.
How impressive of you.
Looking forward to drinking a toast to Peter Dutton, former member for Dickson (fingers crossed).
I have a bottle of bubbly on hand and a bottle of scotch in case it's another 2019....
GP appt on standby to ask for some medication for these trying times, should that nightmare come to pass...
CHEERS!
