We need such statements now more than ever. Thank you Codeberg <3

I checked my spam folder and there it was. And the entire height of chud humor was just a slur. Nothing else, not even a lengthy queerphobic screed, just a slur and that was all.
not even just a slur, it was slur balls
yeah same, i just deleted and moved on lmao
Oh that's what the email my brother received about.
A complete non-issue. This was not "hate", it was spam. I received the offending email this morning, deleted it and moved on. The whole episode took up two seconds of my life and was forgotten within another two. Except for the waste of another 4 seconds dealing with Codeberg's inevitable grovelling apology a few hours later.
Stop giving in to provocation! This kind of histrionic response is exactly what the spammers were looking for. It doesn't matter what rude words were in this email. It was spam.
First off: hate and spam aren’t mutually exclusive, it can be both. Especially when, after reading the linked article, it’s pretty clear that this isn’t an isolated case of one email going out.
But more importantly: hate is never a non-issue; you may not have been bothered but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have an impact on other’s lives. Tolerating hate is so very dangerously close to acceptance here and we as a society simply can’t allow that to become normal.
Codeberg taking the time to tell us that this was wrong and they don’t tolerate their systems being used to spread hate is good.
We will agree to disagree. Despite your obviously good intentions I think you, and they, are making this problem worse. By validating it and propagating the (quite novel) idea that somehow we can be almost physically harmed by mere words and must therefore be on constant guard against them. I respect people's right to think this way but personally I don't want any part of it.
Some people mind. 🤷♂️ You do realize more people other than yourself exist in the world, right?
I personally couldn't care less. But I also recognize that CodeBerg has every right to police their own platform in whichever way they see fit. If they don't want this kind of shit on their platform because their users disagree with it, then all the more power to them.
Honestly lil bro, you lack emotional intelligence.
Honestly lil bro, you lack emotional intelligence.
That was the personal insult. It was unnecessary and I'm not sure why you figure you needed to say that.
This, again, is my point. A puerile ethnic slur (I didn't read it closely but I think that's what it was) by provocateur spammers is cause for a big song and dance of solemn apologies and ostentatious contrition. But your personal insult lobbed against me is apparently fine. This is the modern value system that I don't understand and don't want to be part of, personally.
Just because it's not hate against you does not make it not hate, you privileged little you.
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
Lol! Not sure what message you got, but if it's anything like mine, let's test this.
Post the message you got in your company's general Slack channel.
If you get fired, it's a hate message. Else, it's spam.
This anecdote only reinforces my point.
I get your point and generally agree but it's not a non-issue.
I think the general gist is that if you don't react to words, actions will follow.
And, historically, the pen has always been mightier than the sword.
