I first heard this term in Australia/NZ ten years ago or so. Seemed like a common name for canines there.
What's wrong with it? It's just a cutesy name for a dog.

haha i'm ok with a lot of that stuff, but for some reason "doggo" is just fingernails on a chalkboard for me. Mom, ma, mama, - all of that is good.
You’ll pretty much never see that term if you avoid pet forums lol. I haven’t actually seen it used in a while so it may be falling out of favor.
I know - it's pretty crazy to complain about it here. I'm ducking out before more fur flies ... haha
