At a time when the military shooter genre was closed in terrestrial (or at best, mars) spaces, Halo presented natural environments filled with gorgeous alien architecture that presents an ancient mystery and a sense of wonder at the scale and the age of a place. Perfectly augmented by the monk-like vocalisations, Halo defies the conventions of military shooters by putting you in a beautiful place that you have to explore, and slowly come to understand.
Wow, that triggered my trauma really bad for a split second. I used to get told that all the time when I was a kid, just because I was curious and neurodivergent. Eventually I came to see that sentence as a symbol of the poor empathy of neurotypicals for autistic people, and of ableism in general. If you said that in my house to a member of my family you'd probably start a domestic incident, because every autistic person I know has a similar experience.

A lemmy.dbzer0.com admin by the handle of Unruffled, actual username @Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com, posted an ableist comment today in relation to a ban decision.
Unruffled's explanation for the ban is that people with narcissistic personality disorder are not a victimised demographic, and that when pwNPD claim to be marginalised, this is an abuse tactic.
Wikipedia says on its page for NPD:

People with NPD are significantly functionally impaired, and psychosocially disabled. I could bring up a half dozen corroborating sources, but I'll skip that for now.
Now, the fact that people with the disability known as NPD suffer unfair hatred shouldn't be a controversial statement. A great example is the stereotype that pwNPD are abusive, and everything they do is a manipulation. This stereotype is massively damaging. In fact, if you have NPD and you look to Google for resources on dealing with your disability and improving your mental health, the first result you'll get is sources on how you're an evil abuser and resources for people who've been abused by you.
This is a significant barrier to treatment. In addition to the physical difficulty of finding resources by sifting through the hate, it can provoke feelings of shame and defensiveness, and drive people to avoid or distrust all online resources about their disability. And, like autism, a lot of the disability of NPD comes from other people's intolerance. The idea that we're all abusers primes people to see and choose aggression when dealing with us. It starts fights, it gets people hurt, it turns out lives into one big punching match.
The fact Unruffled engaged in this counterfactual stereotype while denying basic medical facts about a disability is troubling. It's my opinion that db0 should have a long conversation with Unruffled about sensitivity towards disabled people. Ideally, Unruffled would come away feeling ashamed of their behaviour and with a resolution to do better. But in the event Unruffled is unruffled by the conversation and unwilling to improve their behaviour, they should be banned from lemmy.dbzer0.com immediately for clear hate.

Funny thing about owning a console is that when Christmas and birthday come along, non gamer family and friends would rather get you a physical object than a steam key. If I tip a cashier, then we're taking money away from the working class to give to the working class, which means there's no net change. But if I refuse to tip, the boss has to make up the difference and the working class gets money from the capital class.
Therefore tipping is class treachery. You're depriving the workers of chances to take money from the bourgeois.

There's one example of freezing in space done right. In the finale of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Battle Tendency, Kars gets shot into space and tries to course correct with air jets, but then he starts freezing over, air jets first.
In Phantom Blood, we were shown Dio's special technique for freezing people by evaporating the moisture on his skin. This is to introduce viewers to the fact that boiling a liquid makes it colder. Kars froze because the moisture in his air jets boiled in the vacuum and became freezing cold. Kars didn't know this detail of physics because he's an ancient Aztec.

A tidally locked planet does not rotate in relation to its sun. One side is always day, one, always night. This is caused by tidal forces pulling all planets towards this same equilibrium, so it's completely stable once it does occur..a tidally locked planet at an earthlike distance from the sun would be scorching heat on one side, freezing ice on the other.

I like ADHD memes, it wasn't a random community. But that aside, Lemmy is designed so that I can't follow this advice, because banned users cannot submit reports. So I am doing my best to follow the instructions as closely as possible, and submitting this post in lieu of a report. Stamets repeatedly called me a slur directed at people with NPD, which I have, off-community and defended it on dbzer0. MetaCubed also called me a slur after its status as a slur was pointed out. I ask for instance bans for both of them, because slurs directed at members of a marginalised group from outside are obviously in violation of the anarchist code of conduct. I would be submitting this as a literal report if I were able.
