hosts file block twitter/reddit/facebook/etc on all my computers. i guess i haven't done it on my phone because i can't be bothered [and regardless of how much i need a hit, i'm not gonna sit there on my phone browser for hours anyway]

OK please bear with me -- who in the name of god feels more comfortable or better or soothed about their life by calling a stranger, who knows nothing about their situation, who has a little button that calls the cops on them and could get them involuntarily hospitalized or shot.... I mean seriously I'm an introvert and whenever I'm that depressed I'm not exactly...outgoing.

Treating it anthropomorphically is a sign of respect, similar to how a sailor would bond with their ship. It's not necessarily BAD or dumber or wrong to talk with it like its human - that's clearly what every single interface is telling you to do by representing it like a texting partner. You can't interact with a machine that speaks english non-anthropomorphically.

It annoys me when people slag off AI because some lazy writer didn't use it properly.

Nobody needs 15 recommendations. You'd be lucky if someone looked up one. 15 is filler; nobody has 15 books worth of opinion on the prospective literary qualities of summer 2025 AD. An absolute minority would have read all 15 were they real. The piece did its job well enough to get published, make the author $35, and make me feel vaguely 'summer beach book escapism' from reading the descriptions, which is the point of the piece anyway.

It used to be a respected standard for developers and hosts to be somewhat open and friendly to 3rd party devs, because ultimately they're customers and they're helping recruit and retain customers, they should be treated with respect. just because it's innovative and disruptive to invent the machine gun doesn't mean it's good

We live at a time of artificial plenty and everyone's stressed. It literally doesn't have to be a bad thing, either. We don't judge people who take on prestigious corporate jobs that will by nature make them more stressed and worn down. They get money, 75% of us get to eat tasty food and treats.
