Why does the onion, a satirical paper, write satirical articles?
Humor would be the goal. Humor of course differs from person to person. It doesn't always land. The other half of satire is putting a looking glass on absurdities of life.
The problem is reality has gotten so ridiculous in the past, shall we say decade, that small bits of satire meant to get a smirk are no longer humorous, because of the horrors that go on everyday.
So they have to be even more ridiculous than the world, hence a zombie horde in Russia.
Its simple, you don't even think about it while crossing.
Planning a drive? Maybe reroute in case a train is stuck.
Being pissed that a train is approaching and you missed the light? Sucks, shoulda left earlier.
Though I suppose more restricted access to the tracks would be beneficial.
I knew a person who chose a train as their method to exit this hellhole. Just walked right onto the tracks, and the engineer didn't think anything of a person walking beside the tracks because it runs next to a main thoroughfare, a lot of traffic, even on foot. She just stepped on the tracks, no guardrail or anything to hop over even.
For anyone offering well wishes or to seek therapy... I knew this person from work, we were never close, and both of us had exited that job for other reasons.
Just a name and a picture in the newspaper alerted my BIL, who worked in the same building and had more of a working relationship with that person.
He isn't fine, but that has nothing to do with the person who commited suicide via train lol.
In Planescape: Torment Dak'kon was absolutely my favorite character. I really wish WotC would explore the other half of the Gith people.
Reading the unbroken circle of Zerthimon lined up philosophically for me, and seemed to (at the time, like 1999) line up with Bhuddist philosophy which I was reading then too. Typical teenager in the Christian south looking for alternatives.
I have the rune of torment as my only tattoo (just the basic symbol, not TNO's personal additions) for a few reasons, but to this day I can look at it and be inspired by Dak'kon's words.
Mental illness may be at play, but the systematic problem is that mental healthcare is difficult and expensive - even with insurance - and that's if they even take insurance.
Without a combination of Obama care and a mother who had the means to not only try to get me help, but continued over the course of my life to try to help ..
I'm bipolar. It took a long time (27 years of age) and lots of money to get to being an otherwise fairly normal functional person.
Mental health needs to be a priority, it needs to be socialized (like all medical care) so people don't have to pick between the rent (always rising) and seeing a doctor.
Mental health also carries a stigma still, which is why I'm open about mental health and my struggles. Because when I'm on my meds, on your average day, I'm just your average civillian. Without meds I don't sleep for days, get into a manic paranoid spiral, then crash into a depression... Before I found the right meds, that depression lasted two years and getting out of bed was a major victory.
Not violent but certainly not functional. Proper screening and checkups that don't make you pick between meals and mental health would go a long way to spotting the folks with violent impulses. Get them on some meds, some talk therapy, work through it.
Not impale a stranger through the head with a makeshift spear.
Just backing you up, yeah... Physically taking tape backups to a secure offsite location is one of those best practices.
Hell, my personal back ups for my server are stored redundantly on one of my parents file servers. Same for their stuff on my server.
If there is a big enough disaster that both our servers locations are rendered damaged from it, we got bigger problems than a server, like a massive metroplex getting razed.
At a NASCAR race, a bastion of redneckery, a person on camera said Fuck Joe Biden, and the reporter said something along the lines of Let's Go Brandon, I suppose mishearing the person in a loud venue and/or confusing it for a driver.
It stuck and Let's go Brandon became a tongue in cheek way of voicing their displeasure with our current president.
On the other side...
Any time Biden has done anything progressive or to stymie the GoP it is his "Dark Brandon" persona that the internet created.
Basically dems flipped the meme, or at least tried to and it became a memetic way to celebrate perceived victories over the GoP, as I understand it.
Any personal matters I may have attended to during work hours were done on a personal device, through a VPN, preferably borrowing some other WiFi signal than one run by any company I work for.
If its even more personal, just drop WiFi I don't control all together. Either use the phones data plan for 10 minutes, or tether it to a computer and do the same.
Got Shaggy and Daphne, Fred doesn't look so good with the hairline and all, Velma apparently transitioned, good for him, and Scoob is long dead. Dogs don't live that long.
Started on my mage who could summon a ring that instantly cast levitate on you.
So we had games getting up to, and jumping off of, really tall structures and playing chicken with the ground lol.
On my bard, the combination of raw movement speed and a Lev meant getting into places not designed for players, though I will say they did a good job of making sure you didn't die out of bounds, back when you had to recover your gear from your corpse.
I only had to petition a GM once to get me unstuck, lol.
They just teleported me to the current expansion at the time "hub city."
Never got into speed running though, and I don't think my attention span would allow for it. Respect and all, its impressive what some people can do, just not my thing.
