  • But for real, I'm not even in STEM but I was using Linux for 13 years before I found out I was autistic. This is hilarious.

  • The 10 Second Autism Assessment

Psych: Hi! Nice to me you.

Autism: Looks at their face to assess emotional disposition Hi! Nice to meet you too (or "likewise"). Looks at them for greeting gestures (wave, handshake, hug, etc.) and reciprocates.

    Psych: How are you?

Autism: Pause. Looks away. Good. nods head. How are you? engage welcoming smile protocol and stare through them

    Psych: Confirmed.

Save yourself thousands of dollars and 3-4 hours.

  • Immediate:

    • Focus on a task because I decided to do so
    • Stay focused much longer without becoming exhausted or frustrated
    • More respectful in conversations because I was able to stay focused on what they were saying. I also remembered what they said.
    • Hope that things could improve

    Long-term:

    • More confidence in myself
    • Reduced shame that I was rude, disrespectful, or careless about others. Paradoxically, this lead to me setting better boundaries when overwhelmed because I didn't see them as rude.
    • Less reliance on notes
    • Less anxiety that I forgot something important
    • Less vulnerable to manipulation because I was able to see patterns better since I could remember interactions more, and I was more confident that what I remembered was right.
    • I was able to structure my days better. I developed a daily routine, eat healthier, and establish sleep schedule.
    • More awareness as to what were issues I was having because of ADHD
    • Felt more like a person than a problem

What surprised me the most was that all of these are apart from work. I had no idea how much ADHD was affecting my overall life. When the psychiatrist said that treating it would be really impactful to my mood, I thought she was just trying to lift my spirits and get me hopeful. Nope. She knew exactly what she was talking about.

Edit: Whoops. These all were things that improved. What didn't improve was things that were related to other matters, such as anxiety in crowds, lack of trust in others, general sense of doom, etc., but I'm working on it! Being able to plan and follow through is fantastic. Ohhhhh, is this what executive functioning is??

  • The default background is black. The colors are all muted. The cursor is slow. The computer shuts down for 12 hours a day. The sounds sound compressed and muffled. When you try to open a program/app, it prompts, "For what? What's the point?"

  • Ooh, I think I'm getting it!

When salt dissolves in water, is it because the elements of the molecule split so that sodium and chlorine are freely flowing in water themselves? Or is it because salt molecules are more attracted to water molecules than other salt molecules? If it's the former, would adding another ionic element to the water change the salt to something else? If it's the latter, why are they more attracted to other water molecules?

So here’s the thing. Household bleach is sodium hypochlorite, which is technically a salt. They just sell it already dissolved in water at the right strength.

    What‽ That just 🤯

Is household bleach a double ionic molecule because the oxygen and chlorine have an ionic bond, then that molecule has an ionic bond with sodium?

  • Thanks! Ok, so a bleach is a chemical that removes colors from materials, often making them white. A salt is any substance whose molecules are held by ionic bonds. Is that correct?

  • lol! But even if I did google it, my brain is not working at capacity, so I need some layman descriptions.

  • LGBT+ are the values of a nominal variable sexuality. (maybe not the T tho). Ls are almost only going to sex with other women. If they go both ways, then they're B, not L. If they go all ways, then they're P(ansexual). So it seems like less of a spectrum, and more of a single variable. I may be wrong since Im not up on the latest in sexual identities.

While autism is a variable (levels 1-3), it's ordered, not nominal. The autism spectrum is made up of many variables that are also continuous, not discreet. And they are positively correlated. If one variable is high, it's likely others would be too. So, you can't say someone is a kind of autism anymore than levels 1-3. Beyond that, the spectrum varies way to much to typify.
