Hi, past couple days have seen a influx of new users so welcome everybody! This release is aimed at improving customization options and some requested improvements. The secondary buttons on post cards can now be customized, added a 'Hide above' option which will hide all posts above the selected post, and the upvote colour can now be customized (also applies to the new comment counter and swipe action background on upvote tiles).
Changes
Upvote colour can now be customized
Fixed a bug with the subscribe button not being in the correct state within About Community
& symbol now renders correctly on posts and comments
global setting moved up within the Settings page to make it more obvious
filter terms now accept regex (should start and end with a "/" eg /foo/)
spoiler tags should now work for multi-line spoilers
Added a toggle to display comment debug information (shows id, children count, hot rank, upvotes, downvotes - probably only useful for debugging).
Fixed an issue where 'View More' is showing when it shouldn't be
What would you like to see next: Tablet UI or more granular theme customizations?
I think you could do that with Boost for Reddit, but I can't go check because fuck reddit for breaking my favorite app. Anyway, based on that it may be possible but also Lemmy works entirely differently so... Maybe
Also, you should add a "paid key" that we can download from the play store so we can pay for it and support you. I make some money from Google rewards and I don't mind donating them to something I'm using. Just a suggestion.
If that can connect to my Google wallet/rewards money, then hell yeah, I'd love to donate every now and then. I appreciate the work put into these apps. I'm actually going to ask other apps devs I use to do the same
Yup, that's exactly what I meant. I have one for an app called YMusic that I actually purchased. There is an app that has an actual "donate to me" button that always connects to my Google wallet.
Thanks for all your hard work! Can't believe how great Connect is in such a short period of time.
Whenever you have time, could you implement saving your place in the comments when coming back to a post. Sometimes I exit a post by accident and when I go back in its takes me all the way to the top.
But still shows the display name (if a user has one) before the instance tag though. What OP meant I guess was just showing the original username (even the user has set a display name)
My vote for next changes would be to have granular theme customizations (choosing specific color to apply to specific screen elements), AND the ability to export / import themes and settings. Tablet UI features would also be nice (e.g., landscape mode for posts | comments in side-by-side panels).
Allowing us to customize the comments more would be nice. Like I don't want the top level comment to collapse when clicked, just its replies. Also it would be nice if the left padding on the comments was reducible and the colour bar could be made thicker.
You can do it by scrolling up just enough to get the top bar, then in the three-dot menu, hit refresh. Obviously it refreshes, but it also brings you to the top.
I would like it if the refresh button wasn't in a submenu.
Not related but I would also like to see the topic in the top bar... When browsing comments i sometimes forget what the topic was (especially when i put my phone down for a bit.
Is there a way to edit your profile from within Connect? Like updating display name and bio, or uploading a new avatar or banner? I feel like there's been a handful of things I didn't think Connect could do, but found out later that I was just overlooking it or didn't recognize it in the settings.
Another random question - the area in the pop out panel on the left where your username/avatar is displayed at the top (it's blue for me). Should that be showing my user banner? If not, can that be a thing?
I hate to sound like I'm begging for features and don't want to do a whole separate post, but is there any chance for an "auto-hide child comments" option in the future that collapses replies to top level comments until opened by the user?
It's the only feature I really miss from RiF and RES.
Other than that everything seems to be working great and this is my favorite Lemmy app so keep up the great work!
The toast requires the feed to be scrolled down in order to view it with swipe to hide but shows up normally with the hide button or actioned through the post options menu. Imyalso hoping it's fixed since I mainly use swipe to hide but I guess for now I'll probably use the hide button.
Additional theming would be nice. Personally, I would like the option to move the upvote/downvote arrows and points count to the left of the post in list mode.
Hide Above is a pretty sick idea, and solves a problem I didn't realize I've been encountering for years on Reddit clients. I hate scrolling up to hide stuff I just saw.
Love your app, only thing that bugs me is the inanity to have more than one account configured. Try to add a second and you can't go back to the first without signing out of everything and starting over.
Can you explain further? I'm not the dev or affiliated, but I have two accounts on different instances signed in, and I can toggle between them without issue. I just recently also got settings to configure per account rather than app wide. I might be able to help?
I'm glad to see the toast notification added to undo hidden posts and it would be nice if the option was extended to the Hide Above feature as well. I accidentally tapped it and a bunch of posts were hidden as a result.
Any way we can add the lemiverse.net search function into the app? I know how to find communities, but idk if there's a way to search for instants? I've also posted about it: https://lemmy.world/post/2737749 but I think posting here would also get more traction (also, I can't be the only one haha).
left/right handed is under Comment Customization, but doesn't affect comments or the comment bar at all
When you do not have the comment button for your two button options on a post, there is no way to leave a comment top level, so you are forced to have one of your buttons be the comment button. Maybe you should add it to the three dot menu if it isn't selected
if you try to comment on the Post Customization example post it comments on some random post. I wanted to comment on the kuro post :(
Maybe I have not figured it out, but can I not have it show only feeds from my subscribed communities? Basically I can select all and see everything or local and it is just my instance. I want to see a random selection just from the communities I subscribe to based on top best, day, month etc.
Also maybe a ignore list. Ie. I put cat in said list in Reddit and very few cat videos came thru.
I'm glad to see that posting a comment no longer brings me to a single comment chain page. However, the app still puts my view to the top of the thread instead of keeping track of where I was, so I have to scroll down through everything I've seen already to get where I was. Is this fixable?
The thing that's been bothering me the most lately is the swipe-left-to-upvote being so close to swipe-left-to-hide. I only ever swipe to hide, so I don't ever deliberately swipe to vote, but having upvote be a swipe-left motion baffles me. Why not move that to a swipe-right motion? It's common for me to downvote, then attempt to hide via swiping, but the UI interprets my swipe as an upvote, which negates my downvote, so I have to click downvote again and retry.
Is there a way to change which browser "open external" uses? My phone defaults to Chrome but I'd like to switch it to Samsung browser. Not seeing it in Connect settings
Another thing I've noticed- if I switch to a different app, then switch back to Connect, it doesn't remember where I was. It just reloads all/homepage/local/whatever and puts my view at the top of the page. It would be nice if it stayed in the thread I was in, and remembered where I was scrolling before, so when I click back, I can continue where I was.
Strangely, this update cuts down the last letter of startrek.website's instance domain name, leaving it like "startrek.websit" and making the instance and its communities unreachable.
this is the only example I've found where it does this, pretty weird.
