I would assume they're just there to protect protesters from police. Generally shooting at cops is a bad idea, but having enough armed protesters around does cause cops to be on their best behavior. Remember that protester a few days ago in LA that was being assaulted by police on horseback? That's the kind of situation where someone would have been fully justified to shoot those officers, an act of simple self defense.
It's rare for cops to actually shoot openly armed people. They're only incredibly trigger-happy against unarmed people. Every cop knows that it doesn't matter if the law is on their side. If a cop starts shooting at someone that is themselves heavily armed, there's a good chance that cop isn't going home tonight. Having armed protesters prevents police from taking lives with impunity.
The person shot had been at protests armed before, if security was actually familiar with leftist protesters they wouldn't have been so quick to judge.

idiotic. This is an open carry state where dozens of people are armed. He wasn't "running around" and he didn't have his rifle raised either. There's footage of it. He's just walking around with the gun in a resting position when they shoot at him
I have not seen any identification of the "peacekeepers" or the one that actually fired the lethal shots. The fact that the cops are charging the younger open carry person with murder makes me think these peacekeepers are cops or cop adjacent.

The story does not fit with what the video shows.
It's almost like random redditors backed by a non-profit suck at organizing. They don't know who is at their protest. They don't know how many people there are on their side. They don't know who is running security, they probably never considered having organized security. They just let randos show up and stake over marshaling duties.

Unless I'm not reading this correctly. There was no "frothing chud" who "tried to do a mass shooting". There was an open carry protester, who the "peacekeepers" believed to be a gunman. They engaged him, he fled, they shot at him, hitting him and killing another.
Utah is a permitless carry state. SLC has an open carry ordinance, and protests frequently see AR-15s being carried openly.
This environment makes threat assessment more challenging, which is why having armed "security" volunteers who lack extensive training is an incredibly reckless idea.

The story is that there were two pistol armed peacekeepers in reflective vests standing by. They saw the suspect go behind a wall to retrieve a rifle. They confronted him, then he pointed his rifle and started to run towards the crowd. One peacekeeper opened fire on him. He shot 3 rounds. One struck the suspect, one struck and killed the protester.
The suspect fled and attempted to hide amongst protesters sheltering in place by a building, but one of the protesters recalled seeing a rifle stock in the suspect’s backpack during an earlier interaction with him. This protester snatched the backpack and called the police over, where he was arrested.
Gamboa is just walking and the peacekeeper just starts taking shots at him.

still definitely reckless behavior to bring a rifle to a protest, especially while dressed in what appears to be an all-black hoodie. Like c'mon man do you not think that looks extremely sus? Also doesn't fit the vibe of the protest. Also there has been propaganda recently about people targeting the protests (after those politicians were murdered). Gotta be some weird gun nut kinda fetish or something. The vest person was clearly trigger-happy though. Did they even say anything to the guy or just decided to start blasting?

From footage and other reports I've seen this is like a police shooting and the first reports seem to be designed to absolve blame of the security at the event. He didn't run until after the "peacekeepers" shot him, he didn't appear to raise his rifle. People are saying "he's obviously the guilty one because he was trying to hide!" It was immediately afterwards, of course he would hide with the protesters, he was one of them and they thought they were being shot by a chud or cop probably.
I bet we'll see some more footage come out soon, there must have been security cameras or something else that caught it besides the one super brief clip I've seen.

I made a mistake in the title before. I thought the "peacekeepers" were part of 50501. I don't know who they are or what their connection to 50501 is. And the MSM seems to be shit so I won't google about it anymore.
The narrative on this murder is all over the place. This is my understanding of what occurred—correct me if I'm wrong on any details.
Gamboa returns fire. Maybe? Reports are conflicted.It seems Gamboa never fired a weapon, he ran as soon as he was shot and tried to blend in with the crowd. I haven't seen or heard anything that implies Gamboa ever shot or aimed his rifle aside from the first reports which were put out by the detectives and 50501, which I don't believe we can't trust.
All the reports say he never fired the AR15. This has cops covering for the "peacekeepers" stank all over it. Long haired brown person with a gun is all they can fixate on to try to cover up their recklessness. The fact that the bystander is actually a minor fashion celeb and non-white will hopefully crack open this bullshit story, but this is in Utah, and it will be a tough blue wall.
