This was a good speech. There are lots of rallys on Saturday. Consider attending one: https://www.nokings.org/?SQF_SOURCE=50501
I mean... Isn't the LAPD under him...?
Should the LAPD not be backing the protestors if the LAPD report to the local authorities?
LAPD doesn't report to the governor, their authority comes through the city so they report to the mayor who does not work for the governor. LASD also does not report to the governor, they report to the sheriff who is elected and does not work for the governor.
I think it's more nuanced than that. Police should be allowing people to protest peacefully.
Isn’t the LAPD under him
No—I think the only regular law enforcement under the governor are the highway patrol and state park rangers.
local police would be under the locally voted sheriff sperate from statewide stuff. the only division he wpuld have any remote control over would be the highway police, as that service is a statewide service under the DMV.
LAPD is trained to keep people safe when it comes to protesting.
So they shoot rubber bullets at journalists...
What was the public opinion on Newsom before this current shit show?
Newsome isn't progressive and is a very pro-corporate neo-liberal. My opinion hasn't changed, but somebody needs to stand up to Trump and it might as well be him, even if it's just an opportunity for him to posture for a 2028 run.
Generally pissed at him for being a corporate shill who actively harms unsheltered people and takes any opportunity to get a photo op or hot take that he thinks will help his presidential run in 2028, while posing like a smarmy, aging GQ model.
more like a playgirl model who once tried out for GQ
He was sucking up to MAGA and literally had Steve Bannon on his podcast.
Don't trust him he's an opportunist.
Can't fuckin stand his neolib ass.
He said something about unfairness in sports due to players that have transitioned being a concern that was worth looking into
Thus, many vocal trans rights advocates have blacklisted him
Listened to the segment and yeah, he's a politician: saying anything in a noncommittal way to get people in the room onto his side. He's not principled for sure, but in this case I genuinely don't think he was airing a true personal perspective either.
Political opportunist. He hasn't changed.
The moment he came on the scene, I thought he looked like a used car salesman. I still think that matches.
It's a Good Thing this was Trump and NOT Trans people! OTHERWISE he WOULDNT care!
I assure you, if a random trans person federalized the national guard over his head, he’d still care.
You don't hear Governors calling for protestors to take to the streets very often.
You don't hear governors refer to current presidents as wanna-be dictators either.
Republicans do it all the time when Democrats want to do things like feed children and maybe expand Medicare.
