I have house! 🏠

Still no power, but that should be connected some time today. I'll need to figure out how to light the pilot light on the water heater at some point, but's not urgent. I won't be actually moving in for a few weeks.

It is as expected a bit on the dirty side - just the expected layer of dust etc. that accumulates in an empty house. It does mean I won't have to do a perfect clean when I leave at least - but I definitely need to add window cleaning to my to do list sooner rather than later!

For afternoon fun I shall measure all the things, then assemble a bed and side tables and a couple of cat trees.

In other good news for the day, the accidental foam couch makes a quite comfortable temporary seat, so I have something to sit on before the furniture is delivered.

Yay! Pilot light - if it's like my old gas water heater, there's a ignition button you push a few times and hold once you hear gas, then watch for the flame to appear underneath and continue to hold the button for a bit, then release.
Also account for the time for the water to heat up, so maybe do this 24 hours before you need hot water.
- My old water heater used about 16 matches and a complicated pattern of pressing and releasing the gas button. It never occured to me new ones would self light.
  It is an instantaneous heater, so no waiting required.
This is wonderful news. 😄

  While I'm here: the H90 continues to impress. It's an endless box of inspiration man. Im going through each algo, one by one. And each algo has say, 10 presets and there's 60+ algos.
  That's not taking into account mixing 2 together. Only shame is that I would have loved a 3rd effect slot. But it has fairly quick program change so that helps.

I've mentioned it before, but my new gp is fantastic. She listens to everything I say, she hasn't tried to bullshit me on anything. I stuck with my old shit gp for far too long. Literally wasting my life. If you've got a shit gp, at least roll the dice and try a new clinic if you're able. Pay the transfer fee and forget the headache. They're not all grumpy arrogant wankers.

Having a good GP (or GP clinic) is such a comfort.

I’m having this dilemma too, current GP clinic has had some changes and the doctors I liked best have gone or have reduced hours so hard to see. Been going there over 10 years. Can I be bothered to look for somewhere new and start all over again, and maybe would land on another mediocre clinic anyway. Your positive experience makes me want to have a look around.
- It's not starting over. You get your records transferred. Think of it more like changing school between yr8 and yr9, it's a bit different but it's the same thing still. Better than keeping on with the bad service, hoping the abusive relationship gets better. No one else can advocate for you in this situation.
I had a new amazing one too. The bugger went off on maternity leave!

Woke up in the early hours with a very upset stomach, Cerys is running around shrieking for food! Ffoooooooooddddd! And i'm doing the thing where you lie there hoping it goes away or trying to gather enough ooomph to take something or at least die in a slightly more scenic location and she's dancing on my corpse screaming FoOOooOOdD! and i hit the point of ok this is happening and bolt for the toilet with cat on hot pursuit thinking she's got me now oh yea, i've bowed to her will and then i drop trou, unleash hell and she realises

But honestly the amount of perfectly good stuff people chuck is wild.

Boyo once did a demo job where they had seemingly left everything, clothes, crockery the lot. Too rich to give a shit apparently.
- One of my fav YTers is doing a house reno in Japan and it's amazing to see the state of a house in Tokyo that's been abandoned for 10 years. So many unopened, unused things, it's totally bizarre.
- I used to see that attitude when I was living in Carlton. Rich students would just leave an apartment full of furniture and even their car when they finished uni and went back home to China. Their stuff would end up on the footpath.
- Mr P did demolition for a while. We didn't pay for cleaning sprays for ages. One time they found a whole lot of stuff for making fake IDs. Boss had dibs on the jewellery.
I did a bunch of removals jobs loading a house into the truck and straight to the tip. Threw out a bunch of good stuff. Sad really.
- Absolutely disgusting. Convention bump outs are the same. So much perfectly good stuff in the skip when a few phone calls could rehome it all.
I used to live in hawthorn and the stuff put out in hard rubbish around there was incredible. Would have scored a lot of nice furniture except I couldn’t carry it by myself

That took a lot more work putting together than anticipated, and I still have to screw down the slats. I'm happy with how it looks though. I don't think I've got enough enthusiasm left to start on the side tables today, I might have a start on the dining table and cat trees instead.

I still don't have any power. Hopefully it will be done soon, I'd like to have it on before I leave.

So does anyone else think that the leftovers that the kids ate was actually the leftover beef, not the beef wellingtons. They talk about meat, potato and beans, nothing about pastry. I know the mushrooms were "scrapped off", but I reckon they just ate beef, not beef prepared as wellingtons.

I'm trying to work out what the motive was. Assuming it wasn't accidental which it possibly wasn't. What did she think she was going to achieve?
- the local rumour is that the inlaws were nasty religious extremists
  so maybe get them out of her life or stop their influence
  still not the answer, she could have just taken her kids and left

- Yeah, but it was phrased as the kids ate "the leftovers, but she'd scraped the mushrooms off", so it sounded like the leftover wellingtons, hence why the medical staff were scared for the kids. But what the kids are saying sounds like it was just beef.

Starting to realise that anxiety is just like being physically ill. It fills nearly all our thoughts/prevents other thoughts. When we live an anxious life we are never bored, never have empty time to fill, it keeps us busy.

This year I have recalled a few times a strange little book I read many years ago, The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, it describes obsessive and dysfunctional thoughts very well. ( not that I'm a sinner! ) The days and years fly by.

It's not like being ill, it is being ill. Just because it's less tangible than a worn tendon or excess urea crystals in your big toes, it's still a pathology which impacts your health.

  When I had cptsd , and I had a bad case of it, it often felt like my illness was outside of me, that it was happening to me. I would tell myself that it was contained within me, it was me, even if the cause was outside of me.

5/10, for a nightmare it was pretty lame and not very scary at all

Had a nightmare about that Person From My Past choking me and then acting all innocent while I begged and pleaded for them to leave me alone, only to show how manipulative they were as soon as we were alone. Woke up and checked my call log, they haven't tried again but am honestly surprised at the hold they still have over me.
Oh, and it all was happening in the house I grew up in Bendigo, so I guess that's just another layer of ick.
- because violent and manipulative people are like that 24 hours a day, that's a lot of behaviours and events to rethink
  every little thing they have done and do is fake except maybe when they are on their own and doing something like watching tv
  and hugs, because there aren't enough hugs in life

Was tired but had meal with a friend who invited another person because she figured we would get on. We did. New friend? It's nice. I am not good with understanding that people might like me. Even when we have demonstrably been mates for decades. But I try. It's nice to be rewarded with a good night out and no anxiety.

Oh yeah because they are my friend. I have no trouble feeling friendship towards others...? Just a broken connection somewhere.

I swear I'm about ready to cut off my nose. It's been weeks of this.

I too had vivid dreams last night!... mine involved being at my childhood home, my beloved aunt was there but so was my creepy dad; I was a young adult supposed to be flying to the UK but running late for my flight and realised I hadn't booked any accommodation... not the best dream ever. Luckily I woke up feeling rested and relaxed. First time in weeks I've slept this well??

I used to microwave potat and then smash it with a fork and stir through marg/oil, salt and pepper, and paprika. Mash a mini tin of tuna in. Or I would fry the pieces to crispy and push them over to fry an egg.
Edit: I liked sweet paprika but the smokey kind was extra good

This fatigue is debilitating -_- Fell asleep with the old kitten after doing her supper/meds and lying down for a brief rest. Was quite late with my antibiotics.

The pumpkin vines are looking quite sad so I’m just leaving them and the tomatoes to finish up. I still haven’t had any energy to fill the compost bin and wondering if those will be fit to go in due to disease but I need to sort the higher priorities first.

That was a loooooong drive home.

The GPS told me traffic was really bad on my route, but assured me if I followed the new route it had calculated I would be home before 7. I decided to trust it, and ended up going through a bunch of places I did not recognise (Ascot Vale and Travencore included). Once I was on that route the GPS informed me that traffic was actually bad that way too and there was no way I was getting home before 7.

When I did finally get home there were packages waiting though - Miss Meow's tree cat scratcher and the leaf shaped mats for the garden themed corner, Mr Woof's new fluffy grey rugs for the front bedroom, and the big rug for the lounge. The big rug looks nicer than I was expecting and is very soft.

That wire thing that you dry clothes on inside, do you call it a clothes dryer or a clothes horse (it's proper name) or something else? I had no idea what the man was on about this morning when he referred to it as the dryer thingy.

A small annoyance in my life is that my horse is five socks wide. It means that either some of my socks have to be parted from their partners for drying purposes (untidy), or space is wasted. I mostly cope. But not always.

Horse if free-standing, rack if attached to a wall imo. I have a 3 panel one that folds into a z shape and is super useful for large items like sheets/towels as each panel is at least a metre wide and has 3 cross bars. Very old fashioned, I found it at a garage sale and grabbed it with glee cos I've never seen one in the shops. My other one folds out into a vertical X shape and has a removable top panel that locks it into place and is IDEAL for loading up with socks/little shit and putting over the ducted heating outlet in the spare room. Both fold flat when not in use and get stowed in the gap between the bookcase and the window for low profile storage.
(Clothes) drying rack. My mum used to call it a "screen", I think that was specific to where and when she grew up. Clothes horse I didn't really hear until I moved to Australia. I still find it delightfully quaint tbh.
Side note: I find a lot of older school drying racks here unnecessarily complicated with the lower racks and weird folding mechanisms. Probably a hangover of most people living in larger homes and not as much pressure to design a more compact and less fussy rack. Yes, haha, "rack"...

Desk has been sanded with extra fine then cleaned and now first coat of stain has been applied. It looks great. Once the second is done, varnish is done, then I will shorten the legs by 3 cms. Don't worry, I know how to do it.

it was supposed to be fixed with iOS 18. in fact apple intelligence was the whole selling point for the iphone 16 range. But it all got delayed and now were just stuck with the buggy mess of iOS 18 and the stupidity of siri whilst apple still kick it around between internal product teams.
That they charge 1300 bucks for the base iphone these days is insanity ontop of all this mess.

Not a bad day at all, just tired. Seems I have less sleep the earlier I go to bed because I wake up more.

Made the decision to reschedule my uni meeting to next week. I am telling myself it's not because I'm a slacker but because I'm a grown-up who is sensible about pacing and recharging. I'm only just starting to feel like a human again today. I've volunteered to help an aunt clean their house tomorrow before a sale, to fill up the physical activity/service/connection buckets.

Also feeling increasingly glad about putting up a hard barrier to work stuff - kind of chuffed that the universe fubared my work laptop (appears it will now need to be nuked as nobody knows who enabled bitlocker, probably a previous employee. Thankfully we have everything important on OD/SP). I told people I might check emails, I think I won't be now!

I accidentally deleted an entire Facebook campaign at work today. I recreated it but it was just more time and panic.

The ads section of Facebook has such a terrible interface. It's so clunky and confusing. You'd think that would be the one good part given it's how they make their money

Forgot my laptop at home today which sucks.

Normally use it to listen to using or radio to make the time pass a little bit quicker.

I am listening to some "racist academics" including jollyheretic ( the very far left would call them haters ) so I can understand their arguments and pick apart the false reasoning and bad science.

So many assumptions, so many value judgements.

the first main thing is that they respect science, understand that science based facts have power, so try to use science or couch their arguments in scientific terms.

So many people have trod that ground before, nazis being the main ones, nazis still do that but evangelicals are doing it too now.

a YT I'm listening to now is expending a lot of effort showing how liberal people can be racist , and that can be true in a way. ( it usually paternalism, not based in ill will, just not well thought out is all. Overall the assumption by liberals is equality ) Liberal individuals making mistakes in enacting beliefs based on equality does not make far right beliefs true.

Progressive people can be very, very racist. Believe me.
