I believe a boycott of the Kennedy Center is in order. Don’t attend shows until big orange leaves the board.
As a non-american, can somebody please explain the context here and why this is significant?
I’ll try to do the best I can. The Kennedy Center has long been revered as one of the most prestigious auditoriums in the nation. If you performed there you “made it” and were one of the top performers of your field. Pianists and other musicians, classical singers, etc.
Well recently Trump fired the board and put in his lackeys that instated him as the chair. The “J6 choir” I believe was a group of people who were in prison for their attempts to overthrow the government on January 6th and were subsequently jailed.
I’m sure you can see where this is going from here but we’ve gone from the best of the best performing there to a political stunt of people who tried to overthrow the government and don’t have the talent behind it.
As a somewhat regular visitor to the Kennedy Center, since my wife is a huge theater nerd, I'll just add that it feels open to all. We dress up for the shows we see, but I also see people in jeans and t-shirts, and no one cares. It's about the performance.
We just saw Shmigadoon there a few weeks ago, and we went to a John Oliver show back in December. I've seen numerous other shows there, like Wicked, Book of Mormon, Shear Madness, Ain't Too Proud (twice!), Million Dollar Quartet, Spamalot, and Phantom of the Opera... And those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. And my wife and a friend of hers had season tickets, so they've seen a ton more shows.
We're really saddened by this development. I can only hope the Center survives. It's a cultural institution.
The only good news is that DC and Baltimore have a bunch of other excellent theaters, like Ford's, the Hippodrome, National, etc.
This world no longer even makes sense, and I'd like to leave now.
Burn this shit-house down
Ever seen Inglorious Basterds?
Ha, it was a party phrase in SF in the 90s. Amongst my 3 friends anyways. But yes, now I'm going to the gulags.
Well, they’ll all be in one place at a known time…
How can we speed up that asteroid?
I just can't anymore
I never hoped to see the Kennedy center burn down until just today.
$10 says a fight breaks out in the audience over spilled beer.
Been a while since I saw a post on here where people got the point of the community lol
Whatttt the fuckkkkk
