Just got invited to 2nd stage interview for the 2nd place!
Have a meeting at 10am with old manager to give and get an update about what's happening.
Edit: informed old manager of offer. Also spoke to new manager. Have a meeting with co-owner at midday if he turns up.
Is this the one that you didn’t think you’d progress with?
Yeah it is. It's internal IT which is a good role.
That's great news. I hope it works out
🍀
I am eternally grateful for i don't have to do manual labour anymore. They didn't care how hot it was.
The last one I had was house demolitions.
I would wake up in the morning and my hands were numb for about 30 minutes. I'd have to rub them until i got the feeling back in them. It was terrifying but the only option i had.
That was the end for me.
i don’t have to do manual labour anymore
Some things just break you (mainly awkward twisting with heavy things for me).
I'm lucky enough to be able to do shit around the garden at a far slower speed than proper labourers. It gets done but way less pressure / injury. Was forced 'sort of' to do a retaining wall few months ago but do it quickly and it ruined me for a week. Even if you're fit it still wrecks you. Doing it day in day out would be brutal.
I think there's a "use by date" for manual labour.
I am pretty fit, but that's not enough after a while. It starts to eat away at your body and no amount of muscle or fitness can stop it eroding your joints.
It pays so poorly as well. So there's literally no benefit except having a job if you desperately need one.
Family friend recently sold his business (domestic trades, fairly specialised). He's been doing it for about 20 years. In his early 40's and absolutely wrecked body. He's okay, but not great for his age.
I'm always thankful for being a desk jockey in AC/heated rooms
I had a shitty warehouse job for a few months in 2020 and I'm so glad I did that in winter instead of summer. A day like today anywhere but under air-con would suck so much
Yeah I hear you. I love physical work and love working with my hands, but I still wonder how long I can do it for. Especially in a non air conditioned factory around large commercial ovens all day. I doubt myself too much to do any study, and I don't know what I would study for a change of career anyway. I feel kind of stuck. Mr P did demolition after a career of being a chef, and the two things ruined his health. When it's hot it's almost even worse, as they expect the work to be done faster so you can all get out of there. If you can't start earlier on hot days you miss out altogether.
Jill is off to the rescue to find her forever home along with some of her toys and kitten food and a few tears. Shes only about 6 weeks, so the rescue was going to put her in with some other kittens. Apparently she still needs time with them shes so young. Told them to forward me the vet bills and that we are the first and only call they need to make if they are unable to find her a home.
Those that walk their dog in this heat should be launched into the sun, and the dog should be the one to press the button.
Being single and healed is amazing, because the child-like naivety of not being able to relate to sad and angry breakup songs is back. Love songs also feel peaceful without having the excitement of being able to relate them to anything 😌 but maybe that's just the way I listen to music
so many hugs
Mrs found a rescue org to take them in (the cat, not the Mrs!) Mrs is a WRECK. Shes very very upset, but admits we really really dont have space or time. But our name will be top of the list if they cant find it a home.
It was the right thing to do, but I totally understand her being upset.
Can you share the name of the organisation? I'm trying to find one for the strays kittens.
One at a Time as per Eagle's recommendation. Mrs has assisted a tenant with temporary homing a cat with them in the past.
Not sure if these guys are near you - but if you can catch mumcat they’ll desex her for free with surrender of the kittens https://www.humaneanimalrescueaus.org/about-5
Went to the endodontist and had a third excavation. More appointments to come. Shitting myself at the enormity of the financial hook I’ve got myself onto but it has to be done.
Lishping like Sean Connery. Shexy.
Was outside for my daily duties today. For the brief time I was outside I felt like I was burning out there.
It was brutal!
Urge to strangle banker at critical level. That bit was supposed to be sorted weeks ago 🤬🤬🤬
i just don't even get angry anymore , no point in expending the mental energy
tho i do wish the banking industry here would die , it's the most rapacious in the developed world and the government is complicit
So current work are discussing what I've requested minus 10k.
Which is still really good, but we'll see.
Regardless I'll take whatever they come back with and make a beeline for the exit when something better comes along.
Edit:
If you end up accepting less, perhaps you could ask for a clear path towards the figure you asked for. Wouldn't want to give them false belief that the issue is over and dealt with. ;)
That's a good idea. Personally i think I'll accept until I move house, and find something better down the track.
Last night was crazy. I don't ever remember a thunder storm lasting that long. Loved every minute of it except trying to keep the dog quiet so the others could sleep.
Last night was crazy. I don’t ever remember a thunder storm lasting that long.
Hey dont shame it. The storms put a lot of effort into improving its stamina!
No shame. The house was a rockin'.
Definitely longest and flashy-est that I've seen. looking at vicemergency seems like geelong copped it hard. Really lucky timing doing the gutters.
Bill got spooked which is so unlike him, I had to give cuddles. Ted, nothing seems to ruffle Ted other than trying to give him cuddles which will earn you a bite.
Looking at the beach water quality report everything except the beach I go to and portsea is red. Doubt many watch that especially in this heat. Free E.coli for everyone!

Hovering on the edge of puking. Fetch the hydralyte!
I swear by Staminade powder (in the lemon and lime flavour, the orange is weird). It keeps our whole family hydrated and when on special at Colesworth you can get a tub for around $8 which makes 9 litres. It doesn't have as much fancy stuff as hydralyte but it does the job for less $.
It's on special at woolies this week.
Will keep on eye out for special.
I find the icypoles far more tolerable than the drink.
I've got the dissolving tablets. The lime isn't foul, the blackcurrant is actually nice
Oof. I was in bed for about 11 hours and I think I might have only slept for 3 or so. Today's going to be fun!
It is Monyay Funday!
Got a box of Shwarma seasoning to marinade some chicken in. The recipe calls for the addition of 'suet'. Having none available, surely the final product won't be that much different.
If you haven't got any, use about 3/4 the stated quantity of pork lard - colesworth has this in their butter section. It's not the same but will do the job.
Suet has a particular melting point and makes a huge difference to a dish. You can sometimes find it at Vic market, but it's a bit of a gamble. It's a real bugger to prepare particularly in hot weather. If you find any, get at least a kilo, prepare it, and freeze in 250g bags for future use.
Ask me how to prepare it when the time comes. I'm an expert as I just looooove proper suet crust pastry and puddings.
That’s quite a Wikipedia rabbit hole.
Suet can make a huge difference to a dish. The pastry is like nothing else. Sadly last time I wanted some it proved very difficult to source. Some of the so called butchers even asked me what it was. Utterly disgraceful!
Fully second this. Make friends with a good macelleria - or order it online. I agree that NOTHING compares to suet in a dish that calls for it.
So much flashing sky. I thought it was over but getting another wave.
Edit - my house is vibrating the thunder is so close! Can’t sleep through this.
Nearby house got struck by lighting and burned down last night. Couple (and their dog) seem to be fine, was on the news this morning.
WHOA! that doesnt happen often! they all good?
They seem to be. Poor doggo was looking concerned. House is gone I think. My wife went for a drive to have a look this morning.
Last night the Mrs brought home a little black lost kitten. Its currently hiding out in the bathroom whilst we figure out our next move.
Anyone know the status of animal rescues/shelters these days? We dont really want a kitten. We've got 2 dogs, 2 cats and a toddler. Dont really have the time to give it the best life, plus figuring its a kitten it should have no worries finding a forever home. BUT if it doesnt.... or if everywhere is full.... I guess we have a new cat.
Given the weather, might be worthwhile posting on the the telegraph poles around your house - someone's new kitten might have gotten lost or a mother cat lost track of all her litter.
I really hate this database/managment system I work it.
It's so user unfriendly at times and the logic behind certain workflows is so round about and time wasting, I never know why the developers think it's a good idea to design it in such a way.
This is a certified 'Front end designed by the developers' moment. Sometimes frontend and UI people have a purpose
I used one of those years ago when working at one of the ‘big 4’ (and I think they’ve still got it). Made logical sense from the developer’s perspective but was a pain in the arse to use as an interface
When the user interface looks like a backend database config gui from 1997 then you really have a problem (cough hack so many ancient council programs).
I know it’s getting over 100km around Melbourne, but we’re tracking 83km winds where I am in North Central, and it’s always scary.
We have cypress pines only 10 metres from the house. Well established and solid, but still…
And I just heard a tree come down a few properties away while I was typing that.
That’s pretty scary. Is everything okay on your property now?
Yeah, no trees down for us. We’re lucky that the previous owner of this place had old gum trees removed, the cypress pines are thicker and sturdy.
Around here if you drive after a windy night you might have to turn around and find another route because of eucalypts fallen across your usual road.
Only the old clamshell sandpit lid ended up in the paddock, and a few chairs on the verandah went down.
I see our neighbours were collecting their tarps from our paddock this morning too.
Matt Berry has put out a new album. Yes, the Matt Berry of IT Crowd, Darkplace, and What We Do In The Shadows. Apparently it's his 10th album.
It's very textural ambient stuff, not quite my thing but you might like it. Whether because it's put out by him or on its own merits
You missed Fallout as well!
That's because I haven't watched it yet. I'll definitely have to check it out now
Kill the Wolf is my favourite of his albums, for me. But, if you can find it, his first album Opium is less-serious, hilarious and awesome.
Just gave it a listen....and I dig it. Good background stuff, but holy hell can that man be any more talented.
Some of his music actually ended up in WWDITS (the semen harvesting witches ep)
I actually have a couple of his albums. Kill the wolf is a hard fave, the atmospheric build of Solstice is amazing
Beach:
Beautiful yet ominous. I'm guessing the fires out near the Otways contributed to some of that colour
That is gorgeous!
that looks amazing
The dog is struggling with this storm. Normally he's good.
The booming thunder stops and then the bloody crickets start up 😭
Chicken turned out great without lard or suet. Thanks all for the suggestions. I added some oil and butter to the marinade and it was a hit with the family.
Beach is hot. But worth it to be outside.
sky pretty
Slept with door to the terrace open last night, first ever since I lived in a skyscraper. I am usually pretty cautious.
and time to get a move on and get things done in the morning while it's still a bit cooler
taps tank
-_- I may need to redirect some gutters
(I know i know it's all rah rah because this is a 2500l tank and not the ol' 300 I had that literally filled off the entire inside roof section of the old house but I would still expect over a foot of water in that thing after last night. Stupid southern install.)
Poor Melbcat. She hates storms and rain. She managed well though, waited in her bed for me to come out of the bathroom and then tucked in under the doona next to me.
And no power. At least the house is still fairly cool.
Update: the power's back but the cooling is on strike. Which could be fun.
I took a picture of the sparrows hopping in the chili plants eating all the aphids. You have to look close, there are 3 in there I think. 🐥 ❤️
Looking healthy!
I have a sparrow family that visits my backyard. The parents seem to have brought the kids to show them where the birdbath is, and I occasionally throw crumbs out for them. It’s lovely to watch them scooting about
❤️ for the birdbath, over the next few weeks of no rain the birds are going to need it.
I might get a birdbath on a pedestal for the little front yard .
happy note, omg, Chappell Roan's dress at the Grammys is to die for.
There is a lot going on there.
BoM says 24% humidity out there - press X to doubt. Feels like a dusty sauna. Disgustang. Had to go out and do a surprise site visit for 2hrs and that was enough to tire me out for the rest of today.
Time to do more dishes and then think about dinner... I've got choy sum and bok choy and I need to do something with those asap. Maybe I'll do Japanese rice with stir fried choy sum and try this recipe with the rest of the radish (using tvp instead of pork mince).
Watched Ratatouille before. An excellent movie. Might follow it up with some Star Wars.
I'm kind of scared to watch episodes 1 to 3, but I have to see for myself if they're as terrible as the masses have said.
My unpopular opinion: episodes 1 to 3 though not as good as 4-6, are far superior to any of the subsequent reboot sequels.
1-3 are big dumb space battle fun. By that point in the in-universe chronology the board is very clear and the endgame commences. 4-6 are more complex - political thriller, fascist coup d'etat, one man's journey to radicalism and insanity oh shit that's gonna read so differently now as opposed to release
The original 4-6 still holds up very well even to this day.
1-3 isn’t horrible by any means but they’re a little different and probably still behind 4-6 if you ask me.
If you manage to get through 1-3 you have to watch the Obi Wan Kenobi series.
7-9 left me feeling funny with the way they handled them.
It's a lot but I reckon Clone Wars, Rebels and The Bad Batch is some of the better star wars content.
Goodnight all ❤️ One more day and things will be sane again with the weather!
Goodnight
hmm. I may have found an aussie solution to the water issue - basically we can't run a dry line from downspout A to B the tank because there's a window in the way, no clearance for a fall. And I generally hate wet systems (they end up full of shit, are a hassle to maintain and breed mosquitos like fucking whoa), but there's this baby that just might do it...anyone care to poke holes?
This website is outdated and looks like dogshit so either this thing is absolutely perfect at what it does or is a scam. It's one or the other with no inbetween
TBH that's pretty standard for aussie businesses.
Interesting. Basically a vertical swale with gravity removing the usual debris. I think that small inputs would largely be wasted, cos you'd need a certain amount of velocity to get the water stream hitting the filters, but could be harvested with a conventional swale. I would also assume that there's a way to clean the filters but that's not obvious from the diagram.
for the filter, take it out and hose it from behind.
The smaller inputs intrigue me because this almost looks like a gutter fed ram pump of all things. it builds the siphon then VOOM. if so I'm bloody hooking a turbine up lol.

Checking in from Melbourne:
Got home around midnight, flying through the storm was fun. It’s funny how the quick drops in altitude can make everyone gasp and scream. It’s like a giant musical instrument.
Vietnam is amazing.! It was great seeing all the locals out and about celebrating New Year with family..
It’s also nice to sleep in my own bed and see Jimmy the fat baby again
Welcome back!
Thanks cool cat!
Did everyone give an applause on landing? Mostly european thing I think but I sure as shit woulda clapped.
Welcome back!
One white kid clapped lol.
Welcome back!
The storms were defiantly crazy and heavy last night, hope it didn't freak you out while you were still in the air.
Thank you. I don’t mind a bit of turbulence now and then🙂
Welcome home!
Coming back from tassie many years ago we had to wear seatbelts most of the way in this pissy little Ansett plane because of turbulence due to a storm. It was like 4wding in a mini bus hopping over potholes. Not ideal for my very first return flight home from interstate.
Happy you are home and thank you for sharing some pics from trip. It looked wonderful. 🌞
Thank you yes, it was pretty great!
Welcome back!! Glad you got home safely through that storm, twas a doozy!
Thanks, the lighting was crazy, I wish I had a window seat.
Welcome back! 🥳
Thank you!
Thank you!
Welcome back! We arranged some humidity to remind you of your holiday
I’m forever indebted 😊
