What are some of your favorite music from Movies, TV, Video games, Anime/Cartoons?
I was about to just ask "What are some of your favorite music?" but then I realized some of you are gonna start naming those popular celebrity-singer songs which isn't what I'm looking for. Because I find that songs that are part of other forms of media such as Movies and TV shows are really some of the highest of quality.
My Favorite ones (that I can remember, I'm sure there are good ones that I forgot about):
The Main Theme of Sucession (TV) https://youtu.be/77PsqaWzwG0 (Honestly, I didn't even finish the first season and kinda got bored, but the theme music was memorable for some reason)
That's my list of the music I can remember from the top of my head, what's on your list?
The OST of Disco Elysium is so perfect and so essential to make up the atmosphere of Revachol, I honestly cannot imagine the game without hearing it's soundscape.
Love Darren Korb, Bastion and Hades OSTs do it for me, they're great. Although I do feel that generally playing the game does play a lot on your interest on the sound track.
I'd say my only exception is the DOOM soundtrack, never played the game but man, that album is awesome
Im amazed no one has mentioned Blade Runner. The 80s movie Flash Gordon is gloriously cheesy and fun-bad, but the Queen soundtrack is a classic banger!
Keeping in that line, Tron had a great soundtrack by Wendy Carlos. She also did Switched On Bach.
The Witcher 3: the first time you see that Priscilla is about to play, you're gonna think "here we go, this is gonna be super cringe", but then she plays The Wolven Storm, which is one of the most hauntingly beautiful sad songs anywhere, let alone in a video game! ๐ฅฒโค๏ธ
The opening to Zombie Land Saga Season 2, the first opening for Attack on Titan, the trailer song for GTA Online Heists, the Valentino combat music from Cynerpunk 2077, Jump up, Superstar and Honeylune Ridge Escape from Super Marjo Odyssey are just some of the songs I can think of right now
Ho boy, this could have been long. But here's just a few TV tracks:
"Junk" by Jane Air, from The Boys. Sounds like 1999-2000 rap rock with punk, but I can't understand most of it and it fucking STOMPS.
"White Widow" by Afterhours, from Mr. Robot. Just good hard rock with some tension that fit the scene well. There's the original Italian version out there as well.
"Something for your M.I.N.D." by Superorganism, from Legion. I absolutely hated the direction this show went beyond the first season, and I only watched the last season on some (bad) advice. This song had a trippy backdoor music video in one of the last episodes, which was easily the highlight. Lo-fi electropop with half-sung, half-spoken goofy (good) lyrics.
"The Box" by Fad Gadget, from The Americans. Paranoid as fuck 80s electropop. It has this blaring melody that will get into your head. The Americans has a reputation for its musical cues, and this was probably my favorite.
LOTS of songs from Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. A lot of the songs came flooding back as I tried to list them. I might exceed the character limit if I tried! So many beautiful songs โบ
Reminded me how much I liked Cristobal Tapia Da Veer's soundtrack work on Utopia, Humans, and The Girl With All The Gifts. Looks like he's done some more that I didn't know about so I'll have to check it out
I've never been one to listen to that much music that's made for music; sometimes I'll catch something and like it, but mostly I run into music I like as part of other media I consume, so yeah, this kinda has made up the majority of the music I listen to. And since I used to watch a lot of anime (don't quite have enough time to keep up lately) a lot of my favorite songs are in Japanese and I don't understand any of it but I can sing along to several of them.
Bojack Horseman has one of the best openings in TV.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex has my favorite Anime themes (though tied with Cowboy Bebop)
I agree with Interstellar.
For video games, The Outer Worlds was a meh game with a great theme, Mass Effect's soundtrack was great, but I have to dip into two Licasarts classics for the best music- Curse of Monkey Island, and The Dig.
The Sopranos had a great opening theme. So did GoT.
As for movies, Pump Up the Volume had a killer soundtrack, as well as the original Ghostbusters.
If anyone would like to check out experimental electronic jazz, I suggest an album called Deep Breakfast by Ray Lynch.
Then there is Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, made famous by the movie The Exorcist.
Jean Michelle Jerre has done a couple of great albums, including Zoolookologie, Oxygen, and others.
Art of Noise is worth checking out. You've heard them, you just don't know you have.
Well, that's media music and a few "out there" suggestions. Enjoy!
Basically the entire soundtracks of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumia and K-on! (both seasons and the movie) are 110% bangers for me. Also, the opening themes for Evangelion and Vision of Escaflowne.
Others have mentioned all my favorite movie soundtracks, but I feel like Tron bears repeating. I liked the soundtrack for the second Tron movie, but it honestly didn't compare to the original which still holds up as just gorram great music.
And then there's the opening theme for Firefly. That song was perfect for that show.
And I gotta give credit to the classics: Magnum P.I. and Knight Rider have slapping' theme songs, but the GOAT is, of course, Doctor Who.
ETA: forgot to mention Final Fantasy VI and Kingdom Hearts for video games.
Edit: my phone's keyboard does weird shit on Jerboa, including deleting random words. No clue why. Anyway, I noticed a missing word andfixedd it.
The Mega Man 2 soundtrack has been my favorite VGS since the mid eighties. The "introduction" music is what you hear when the main screen loads after you start the game, and has always given me little chills that I'm about to experience an amazing game.
I've been really into playing Hunt Showdown with my friends lately, the music in the game is incredible: https://youtu.be/QrdNjqm5N1Q
I also really love this song, but never played the game it's from, it just popped up on my Spotify one day and became an instant favorite: https://youtu.be/o6ogevccd7w
