The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion
  • I went very far with it but gave up because I was feeling quite fatigued. I think I'm a bit after the underwater (?) Highway. It's a fine game but I don't have the patience for that kind of grind and repetition anymore

  • Rescuers recover more than 260 bodies at music festival attacked by Hamas
  • I'm using Boost for both Reddit and Lemmy, and as a quick glance on my phone they look identical. To be honest if I was to open a random thread and look at the comments I wouldn't be able to tell where I am.

I'm not sure what you guys mean when you say that Lemmy feels different. If feels smaller but the same, in the good and bad.

  • Festivalgoers, children, soldiers: What we know about the Israeli hostages taken by Hamas
  • No, it isn't. Victim blaming is a thing, but there needs to be some limits or the concept loses any significance.

"Dress modestly when you go out else you get raped" is victim blaming.

"Don't organise an international event in one the world's most dangerous and war-ridden regions of the globe, literally a handful of Kms from a fence, armed checkpoints, and automated machine gun turrets" is reasonable common sense.

  • The complete guide to building your personal self hosted server for streaming and ad-blocking powered by Plex, Jellyfin, Adguard Home and Docker.
  • Honestly, I agree with you.

Of course, if someone offered to come by my house and set this all up for free I wouldn't say no, but nowadays with a fast enough internet connection and the right tracker you're a few keystrokes and maybe 15 minutes away from any movie or TV series you might feel like watching.

The 15/20 minutes saved don't justify the massive work and maintenance to keep this all running.

  • How would you spend $20 million a year?
  • Throw as much money as possible into the best institutes for cancer research in the world, until cancer is cured.

Then, for myself, commission the best architects and contractors to have an absolutely exact replica of the Spencer Mansion built for me.

  • Just finished reading Annihilation - strange book
  • Annihilation is a good book, but the hype it got is much more due to:

    • the fact that it arrived at the peak of the new wave of interest for Weird lit,

    • its (again, very timely) environmental spin to weird fiction,

    • the fact that Vandermeer worked a lot to present himself as THE authority on Weird fiction, with his articles, collections, prefaces to reissues of older books and so forth.

  • Cacio e pepe (Roman pasta with pepper and cheese)
  • Exactly this. The cheese/pepper/water mix should have the density of thick yogurt, or peanut butter: in between so dense that will completely cling to your fork and so runny that will completely drip out of it.

  • RE1 HD remake (had played only about half of the GC one)

Such a wonderful game. For someone like me who grew up with the original, probably the best remake ever made. It's the same, but so much better.

Oh, and Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2. Possibly still the best RTS ever made. Change my mind.
