night watch universe is created by normal humans and flows down in to the other's like clean water flowing in to a sewer.
He just looks like a normal guy, but the shadow of capital as a real god lies over him and twists his normal guy visage in to something unwholesome.
Maybe that is it, though. We expect great villains to look villainous, and when they do not it's somehow unsettling: how could someone so banally normal cause so much suffering?

I don't know, he doesn't have that same cold lifelessness that other chuds have. I think in another life he could have been something positive. He has a vibe which is more manic and off the mark than the cold, calculating, and narcissistic attitude you can expect of your average chud. I think he does believe in something.
