Chef has not fully recovered yet π
Help yourself π
Chef, would you like a hot honey lemon drink with maybe some brandy and some raison toast?
Oh yes thank you
Poor chef! It's important to look after yourself after tirelessly looking after others.
Please accept my humble offerings. πͺ€ π½πͺΊ πΈ π₯ π«§
american cheese omelette with alien eggs and bubbly tennis balls, such delicacy!

The man and I have decided to go see Deadpool & Wolverine tomorrow.
17 year old me would be happy in the back row. 27 year old me would've fallen asleep. 47 year old me just wants to get my monies worth.
I made a snap decision to go see it today. My session starts at 12:30.
As a 49yo who has been comic book reader/collector since i was 16 I want fun, fan service & clear dialogue (I think my hearing is going).
Have fun tomorrow.
yeah this is why I go gold class for this sort of thing. Had Infinity war ruined by kids screaming and carrying on so now if its worth going to the cinemas (and to be clear not much is) I go gold class.
Spring has truly sprung when my elderly neighbour is out watering his lawn daily again.
Once spring hits, he'll water his lawn while it's raining. Nothing can stop him.
Mine's still soaked. How the F can it need watering?!
It doesn't need watering. He just waters it.
So I got sent a link to view the ct scans of my face, from the radiology department.
I have never seen the inside of my face before, it's super wild! I can scroll up and down through the 'slides' and like, move back and forth and up and down these scans of my head.
I feel a tad ick, all the nerves in my face are tingling now that I'm aware π but it's also really cool!
It also confirms what I have long suspected, that my skull is quite empty and cavernous.
Yeah nup, dont like to be reminded I'm made of flesh and calcium.
It is extremely unsettling, because we shouldn't normally have that view. But from a science lover perspective, it's really cool!!
I'm watching Fantasmas and this is the most bonkers thing I've watched all year.
Worth a watch if you feel like it's time for something completely different... and want to process life a little differently.
PS Bibo is my favourite character. angrysound.mp3
so far today I've done all the washing, designed and printed IMMENSELY satisfying just right fitting compartment boxes for my toolbox for bits and bobs, run the first lot of distillate and done a 10 walk. Very niiiice
Almost nearing the end of this retaining wall. my new best friend is a cheapo ozito corded drill. Had to get some screws through pretty thick metal fence posts which the way more expensive cordless one couldn't and it worked. So satisfying seeing the sleepers snap in flush when the screw goes through the post.
Can't believe I haven't fucked it up yet or injured myself (not including back) which is amazing.
How goods some of those cheap shit ozito tool ey. The heat fun and the multitool especially get a shout out.
After my little mini rage on Monday, they pushed child protection along and got the security upgrades happening. The 4 things they promised were:
Apparently all except the deadbolt have been approved (they're still trying to come up with a solution that doesn't violate the fire code thingies, although I guess technically the screen door is a deadbolt, since it can't be opened by sliding a knife into the lock and prying, which is all I really wanted. A dude came out today to measure the door frames, apparently they're going to replace all the doors as well. Interestingly they've actually used a local tradie instead of the idiots from mcpeake.
Mcpeake are the previously unnamed idiots that do stupid work that I mention almost weekly. As I understand it, they have the contracts for fixing, upgrading, and maintaining all public housing and out of home care properties in Melbourne. They seem to take it for granted, or the department is locked into a long contract. they don't provide timeframes, they usually rock up unannounced (a problem because I'm not allowed to let them in, or approve/sign off on any work, that's all the property managers job), at least outside of emergency works. They also do shoddy work, are staffed exclusively by arseholes (their google reviews are hilarious btw), and usually don't even finish the job right.
But it seems that people above the property manager have been stressing the importance of getting things done in a timely fashion, and they ended up finding local tradies to do most of the work.
Oh good! You shouldnβt have had to rage to get repairs and safety featuresβ¦ hoping things look up for you soon
H-O-T T-O G-O!
\
Flinder's full of P-S-Os!
need to find a diplomatic way of saying "If you had've actioned this when I called it out +12 months ago you wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. This isn't my job and you cant keep asking me to do shit cause ya'll cant be fucked doing the work yourselves or even trying to figure it out". Didnt even make it to 10am before I gave up today.
"It is my recollection that the last action on this item was sitting with you......" and of course attach the pertinent emails/documents.
"as per last year's email"
Tbh I'd unironically do it π€·ββοΈ
I'd say my days gone to shit, but lets be honest it started there so performance has been consistent. Does anyone know where i can buy a mars bar slice in the CBD? Feeling like that might be the start of turning things around.
Hopefully you find that mars bar slice and your day turns for the deliciously better.
Thanks. Sadly no because Melbourne is a city that lacks true culture. So i settled for a couple of cookies and an orange juice.
My late afternoon tea might have actually been dinner. Lemon meringue tart, delish.
I'll have some veggies tomorrow I promise.
I need lemon meringue pie now.
Does the line start behind you? because I need some now too.
Yes you do. It was great.
every time I think of these pies now, lemon, lime or peach, I think of that pie shop in Shape of Water. And I've had those American style pies. Weird.
( unlike real pies made with real ingredients , like fruit and sweet ricotta, real cream and home made sweet pastry )
Lemons, sugar cane, wheat, all veggies ... and eggs & butter for protein. You're golden.
Hayfever or some kind of communal disease? Hmm I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
Iβve been getting an itchy nose and Melbcat has been sneezing and heavy breathing. (We might start up again on her puffer.)
I think hayfever is hitting already :/
I suspect my doctors has now got an automatic pre-recorded message you have to listen to before reception pick up the call. They always used to answer pretty quickly, but in the last year literally never pick up. Automated βWelcome to blah blah. If itβs an emergency hang up call 000. You can now make appointments online at blah blah blah details, opening hours, useless infoβ etc and it goes for a full several minutes before someone picks up. I think they are trying to minimise answering calls. Look I know how to use the online bookings, if Iβm calling itβs because I have a question. Annoying.
Faark! Elec bill just under $800.
Not buying cheese this week.
Holy shit! Thats more than double mine and we ran the heater almost every day with basically 0 solar input.
Worth having a look at whats using all your juice. And that your power company is not sticking it to you. Ovo was cheapest last time I looked.
And I was shocked at a $90 bill for the last month... But like you, usage consistent with previous years, just that costs have shot up.
Far out I'd die from a heart attack with that kind of bill.
A friend brought me some xs menβs trackies that were on clearance. They are a bit big but they fit more comfortably than the womenβs /shrug
Melbcat has been refusing her wet food for a few days (still eating treats and biccies). Iβm going to have to give her meds directly and then feed the wet food after. Also a bit worried about her breathing and might have to return to the twice daily puffer.
It feels way too early for hayfever to set in but seems it has
I'm not overly fond of the colours women's trackies come out in, they tend to be weird seasonally trendy colours which I don't like, whereas in the men's section it's all black, grey, navy, khaki. Much more practical.
Yeah, I prefer the more classic colours
In an effort to lift my mood I'm looking at visiting my aunty in WA over the AFL PH given that she has her birthday that week too. Flights are never cheap, but they're less gross than usual atm... I haven't seen her in quite a while and I've got just enough leave to make it work. Could do with a bit of mutual TLC.
Alarm went off during a nightmare, one where you knew something terrible was going to happen but it hadnβt yet dropped yet. Certainly puts a downer on the day.
I had absolutely wild dreams last night. First part of my dreams consisted of evacuating a high rise when the fire alarms went off, but I said "yeah nah fuck off I'm 47 stories up" and took the lift. Second dream consisted of being in Frankston for some reason, and there were SES people putting out a fire and removing a downed tree from the road. But they found illegal fireworks, and they took them home and set them off that night. But they screwed it up and blew up the entirety of Frankston. Third dream consisted of random bugs killing each other, it was really weird and uncomfortable, but not a nightmare
Mine was about a fire too I think, or something was going to explode. And you knew everyone was gonna die but its like it was stuck on rails and you couldnt change the outcome. Deeply disturbing.
I'm so annoyed at myself. Was supposed to do a fasting blood test this morning but I stupidly didn't put a reminder to not eat on my phone... And I rarely eat breakfast, but I'm WFH today and well, wouldn't today just be the day I go "oh! Leftover pasta, I'd better eat that" and I remember the blood test RIGHT as I finish eating... fuck. now I have to wrangle getting tested at 8 tomorrow before heading back to work.
Also very annoyed at uni who in their infinite wisdom have centralised all standard extension requests (NOT special consideration), and noooo a drs. cert isn't enough, they need to file a fucking special form outlining exactly how the illness hampered your ability to study. It's enough for my workplace that actually pays me money but it's not enough for a course that I'm paying to do?? Fuck these guys man, I will be glad to never deal with them again once I'm done with this course
Melbourne Pathology has 'supercentres' that are open from 7.30 am. I use the Northcote Plaza one, but there may be one closer to you.
I had to take one of those once. I ended up fasting for too long. I thought I wasn't meant to eat 12 hours prior, so ate 13 hours before the test, but apparently it was actually8 hours prior, but not over 12
Had a new client assigned yesterday and one shift proved it wasn't going to fly.
The co-ordinator was so quick to agree that I shouldn't go again (and wanting to know what happened in detail) that I suspect this isn't their first rodeo with her.
As I said to a friend, I'm too old and not getting paid enough to deal with that BS.
So great the coordinator has your back there
I need to give my manager a daily summary of the things I've worked on everyday. Things are a little light on today so this time will be an exercise in creative writing
i love orange juice
what's not to love, those big bottles of fresh juice with pulp are yum
yesssssss my precioussssss
My fruit and veg shop sometimes sells freshly squeezed bottles with lots of pulp that they lay on ice. It's awesome
Went to Soi 38 for the first time after work. It's a Thai restaurant in a parking garage that's been around for ever and is super popular. I feel like I got punched in the face with flavour .. so sour, salty and spicy. So delicious.
Ooh, today is new bank card day. They sent it with priority, so that's nice.
What's not nice is this new design. Previously I had a nice white one, with tasteful colour splashed around, and the numbers and my name hard pressed into it, but they've changed to an obnoxious yellow front, with nothing on it except a chip and a logo, then the back has all of my info on it. And it's not pressed into the card anymore, it's just written on, like a Myki card :(
Commbank? I'm with a subsidiary and my new card was the same :( what happened to embossed text after decades of it
what happened to embossed text after decades of it
It got enshittified. :(
No longer using those roller arrangements to process a transaction, so the raised text is not required. Chip does all that now.
Yeah, it's a travesty :/
My UBank card is similar, but they still made it look nice. This CommBank one looks like someone told a 4 year old to redesign it for a cuppa chup. Also it's vertical. Why would I want a vertical card. It's not fucking tickrock
Yeah the new CommBank cards are not it. They look tacky imo
Edit: just read on about the chip thing maybe being behind lack of embossing. Makes sense
100%. They look horrible
Lol, the ABC's doing 1am Wednesday quizzes now.
Are you smarter than a year 9 student?
9/10, I got the 24hr one wrong. But in my defence, it's 2am and I'm in bed about to do sleepy-doos. Apparently I'm in the top 36% of quizzers, which I guess says a lot about the average person taking a random quiz at 1am on Wednesday morning. Also, seeing as I barely passed year 9 and didn't take the NAPLAN, I count that as an absolute win. Go me.
I got that one 'wrong' too. Ugly construction of question, not entirely correct, and very outdated. The rationale is to connect all the adjectives that describe the noun 'train pass'. Which contains another adjective - 'train'. So why didn't they hyphenate 'train' and 'pass'? I wouldn't call their 'correct' choice as normal usage here in Aus. Maybe hyphenate 'twenty-four' cos this functions as a single word but the 'hour' surely doesn't need it for clarity any more than 'train-pass' does. Bad question really.
Twenty-four is what I went with too. I probably wouldn't have known that if I took this a couple of years ago, I only learnt there's "meant" to be a hyphen somewhere in there because I started using a grammar tool on my emails, and it always yells at me for not hyphenating enough
Question 3 is deliberately misleading and wrong. It should be '24 hour ticket'. I wouldn't hyphenate at all (see Goonsey) and no-one writes out time like that. In fact the classic "elements of style" which is a writing bible says you should use numerals for numbers greater or equal to 10 and write them out in words less than that.
That question is some stupid twat adult getting their kicks by making 14 year olds squirm. Or an adult who doesn't know their grammar.
</rant>
I-got-one-question-wrong-can-you-guess-which?
I love that we're all in the same boat here
Australia doesn't hyphenate, nasty American habit.
Urgh, what happened to the nice weather these past two days?
In between reading adult books, I tend to read some Goosebumps or Fear Street as a palate cleanser and also remind me of my childhood and also get me in the mood writing that kind of horror for kids.
Currently reading one of the Fear Street books and the main character wakes up thinking someone is trying to break in because of the news saying there's a prowler breaking into houses. She screams, her parents come in, turns out it's the classic tree branch tapping on the window. So then the Dad takes her into their bedroom, opens the bedside table and shows her the gun he has to protect them from any intruders and how 'it's always loaded' and 'right here' and I know it's blatantly Chekhov's Gun but as I read it, I couldn't help but laugh and think 'this is so America.'
Urgh, what happened to the nice weather these past two days?
It's playing "Just the Tip" apparently. Just makes us appreciate it more when the sun finally sticks around.
just like winter when all i get is a little wet and nothing else
Temu order update: Package arrived. Shoes were ungrated. However the grater was not great. It was very flimsy, bent out of shape and has been refunded.
If the grater was great the shoes would have been grated. π«€
Maybe the grater is bent because the shoes fought back? It could have been great, but it was just outclassed.
The Daily Chair. The other day I bought an outdoor thermometer for the terrace just to check that the nights are warm enough for me to do painting. It's consistently 2-3 degrees warmer than the temps weathermaps gives for this suburb and it needs to be over 10 , which it is, so that's good.
I just finished doing a very fine sanding, then a wipe down and another coat of black stain. This time I was very careful to watch for drips.
It's a really old chair so I just have to accept that it's going to look knocked about even with restoration. Gen-you-wine shabby, not fake ...lol
Currently injured (from my stupid self inflicted toe thing last week) so not getting out, but I will keep this on hand I think....
How does this sound for the title of a cricket themed/haunted mansion story: Caught and Ghouled (a play on caught and bowled).
Otherwise I'm stuck with the temporary title of 'The Haunted Mansion' which is overplayed.
I don't think the play on words works tbh. It's a bit of a stretch and ghouled and bowled doesn't even rhyme. I'd have never got that if you didn't explain it. Sorry but I feel you need to know how I feel
I believe this thread can come up with something better (let's go brains trust!)
Edit: something involving "boundary"?

Oh yes, the bat angle is a good one!
tell me a ghost has a wicket as a wooden leg/stump
That seems to be the case, with lots of mysterious sightings. But it turns out he's the old caretaker who lives next door, who's been creeping around at night trying to get the the bottom of strange noises heard in the walls and a seemingly haunted cricket ball that moves around although no-one has been near it. After much sleuthing by the hero and caretaker it is eventually resoved that the "ghost" is actually a playful little black cat that they adopt and name Midnight. They live happily ever after.
A cricket pirate story is an idea...

The Creeper and the Wicket Fence.

Ooh I like it
Spotify brought out a musical generation thingy
Apparently based on my musical taste, my musical generation is 99% not my generation, 1% my generation. Love that
As a millennial I don't know why this surprised me
How do you do, fellow zoomers?
How do I find this out? I couldn't find it anywhere, but it might be because I'm using the cracked client...
Probably. It just popped up when I opened it for the first time at midnight. Never got anything like this when I had a cracked client
According to apple music I'm a: Shut Up and Give Us Money! Well, gotta appreciate them being honest I guess.
Mine is skewed thanks to the child using my account.....
Pikeg X2 day! And one of them made it from Canberra to here in about 24 hours. That's fun
Test is negative! πͺ©ππΌ And I can taste more things! I didn't realise until I bought some mixed donuts for the Minipeelers and Elder asked what the yellow ones were and I took a bite and said, "pineapple" lol. Spent most of the day cleaning in the lounge room, which hasn't had a decent clean in a while. Four long haired people in a place really take it's toll in terms of fluffage in the carpet and upholstery. Now I'm going to make some schnitzels and maybe a quick curry. I'm back baby ππΌπππΌ
Fantastisch!!
All hail the return of the Queen! ππ
