It's been on my backlog for AGES, since it came out. Maybe it's about time I finally dive in.
I hate to say it, but the only thing that can explain this kind of sudden jump is error in data.
There are situations where lesser evil is the best available choice, but this isn't one of them.
It's funny that reddit basically just blocked us from contributing. You can still use RIF to lurk.
Sometimes I forget and try to comment or upvote. After quick disappointment I actually feel relieved that I can't interact with reddit. It's weird.
Rip RIF, you served us well all these years.
I'm sort of motivated by laziness. When RIF stopped working I thought oh well, guess I just use Lemmy on my phone.
When old.reddit stops working some day I do the same for the desktop. Reddit is literally driving me away. How badly can they fuck up? The modern reddit they are trying to push on us is not the reddit I signed up for 11 years ago.
...and the god damn trailer shows way too much of the game! Why do devs do this? It's not making me want to buy the game more, on the opposite, I'm now considering whether it's even worth it. If the devs really want to show off, they could just end the trailer with hinting that there's more and leave it as mystery.
The whole point of exploration games is to find out stuff for yourself and be amazed about stuff you didn't expect. If you show everything it just spoils the fun out of it.
Would work better if it's both way. Bot bridging all the content from reddit to lemmy and vice versa. It might work for some smaller subreddits at least.
It's great news when the social media oligopoly shoots themselves in the foot.
So far I've tried:
- Facebook = Diaspora
- Irc = Matrix (Element)
- Reddit = Lemmy
- Twitter = Mastodon
Out of all the different federated solutions I've tried, I believe this one has the best chance to hit big. Diaspora didn't work because the network effect is too strong with Facebook. Same with Matrix and Mastodon. But reddit is pseudoanonymous platform, you are not here because of some specific people. It's actually somewhat a benefit when there are less people and you have more room for people to see the content you put out. And the quality of the discussion can be better when there are fewer people.
It's still likely that everyone will just go back to reddit but we have a good chance here. The Lemmy UI is actually better and more snappy for someone who has used old reddit all this time.
