  • I won't rehash my opinions, they already been better said here, but I want to add I hate the phrase "close the border". What the fuck does that mean, was it open, did the last one in forget to close the door?

From the article, he is considering taking action "to restrict migrants’ ability to seek asylum at the US-Mexico border if they crossed illegally" which has a lot more nuance and is important to the discussion. So this will specifically affect people who have a legitimate claim to asylum, the border was never "open" to any migrants without it (or a visa).

  • Dance. Started dancing (taking classes) at 350lbs 4 ½ months ago, still going now at 295lbs. Everything is sooo much easier. First exercise I really liked, improves my flexibility, strength, and cardio. And I feel mad sexy doing it.

  • Marketing is becoming increasingly work from wherever. Even with AI, demand for copywriting and written content is high, if you combine that with even moderate technical literacy (wordpress, html, adobe, etc.) and there is aways demand from smaller companies.

I have no degree in marketing, but got all the free certs from Google, Mailchimp, etc., signed up for some marketing focused newsletters to learn the buzz words and just started digging in and learning.

It can start as gig work if you can't find an in-house job, and I definitely didn't make great money, but it was survivable. And the skills open up other side projects like affiliate marketing, especially if you have a cool niche passion to share with the world.

  • I'm not into sports and I have no plans to watch the Superb Owl today, but I do have a big appreciation for humans being awesome, and for that I can usually appreciate watching even if I don't care who wins.

Watching a 300lb man accelerate like a freight train or someone jump several feet into the air, twist over backwards, catch a ball and land where they meant to is definitely something I enjoy, because they do work their asses off to get that good and I can appreciate anybody's passion at that level.

That said, totally agree on the money side, it taints so many things (looking at you IOC).

  • In NY some businesses have to put a little /! icon next to any single serving item containing more than your daily recommended sodium, almost every single serving item on Domino's menu has this icon.

    Everything in moderation, including moderation.

  • I'll second CBT, it helped me a lot. My therapist started with identifying my "core beliefs" like "worrying helps me avoid bad things" and "worrying makes me better at my job" and then through some structured routines helped me change or event disregard them. I'm very analytical and she really helped show the illogical nature of all the time I spent worrying.

That said I first needed a low dose zoloft prescription to even be willing to book the therapy, but I've since weened off it.

specifically hypothetical worries, i.e. "what if"

  • First I want to say I'm so sorry you're feeling this way, and I know we're just internet strangers, but we care; I care. I went through a really bad year about one year ago, the cat thing hits hard, I was exactly there.

Please consider talking to someone professional, and if you aren't ready (it took me months to finally make an appointment) take care of yourself as much as you can in the meantime. I only did about 12 weeks over the phone (and it was surprisingly affordable, if that factors for you). CBT really helped me deal with a lot of the same issues, I was looking to please everyone, but myself.

Talking through and challenging some of the really toxic beliefs I had, especially around if I'm important, helped so much. I'm living my best life and finding my joy for me, and it's starting to snowball into a full blown social life. I struggled so much with the "what's the point" question, and wasn't even sure if I had an answer after my last session, but I'm living the answer now and I'm so thankful for my cat.
