Sonos' Privacy Policy Change Suggests It Might Sell Your Data
  • We're a Sonos family. Listening to Sonos right now as a matter of fact. But this really bugs me. I don't allow voices control in my home so was interested when Sonos brought out their own version. I've contemplated rolling it out, but now likely won't.

  • What was your most embarrassing moment?
  • Me in High School, carrying a torch for a girl who was completely uninterested. We're skiing at Mount Bachelor, I missed the exit from the chairlift and they wouldn't let me jump down, so I ride the chairlift down. Of course girl I was carrying a torch for saw.

    Or...

Fast forward about 45 years. Last weekend I was at Lynn Family Stadium with my wife, watching LouCity play. Just past the second half restart, I'm standing up from letting some people go down our row to their seats. I decide to put my drink can in the cup holder before sitting down all the way. I bend over and over balance. Go falling down over the row in front of us and the aisle beside us.

You can pick which is more embarrassing.

  • 'He’s truly lost his mind': Lindsey Graham ripped after calling D-Day a 'failure' on CBS
  • If there had been an earlier interdiction, I'm reasonably certain the Nazi's Final Solution would not have come to fruition. Or been stopped far earlier than D-Day. I'm pretty sure Senator Graham's argument is exactly that.

  • 'He’s truly lost his mind': Lindsey Graham ripped after calling D-Day a 'failure' on CBS
  • I don't think so. My father was in the RAF during the war. Bombed by the Germans and shot at by the Japanese. He is also the reason I'm a pacifist.

His brother-in-law was part of the BEF, that was rescued at Dunkirk.

Neither of them were particularly chatty about the war.

I think that for those that faced the horror of the war, almost all of them would have preferred not to have to endure that brutality. If an earlier intervention with Hitler could have prevented D-Day, I think most veterans of that conflict would be all for it.

  • Just finished the first Honor Harrington book
  • I have read through book 10 twice. I have listened through book 10 once (currently half way through).

While I love Horatio Hornblower, I love Honor more.

I do not read science fiction. It's just not my thing, but when War of Honor was published, Baen published it with a CD of all the prior books bound into the cover. I thought this was a cool thing to do and wanted to support it, so bought the book with no intention of actually reading it.

Well that plan didn't work out.

You'll discover as you get deeper into the series that even Honor knows she's literarily related to Hornblower.

  • I can't stand President Biden. I wouldn't vote for him if he were the last candidate on earth. But, really? This man is the President, and you couldn't do him the courtesy of sitting quietly and listening to what he has to say?

That behavior is beyond my comprehension.

  • A fascinating bit of baseball history

I'm trying to learn to be a fan of baseball. This sort of history helps shape that burgeoning fandom.

I'm Writing a new Substack about baseball
open.substack.com An Old Dog Learns New Tricks

For as long as I can remember, and that's quite a long time, I have thought I should be a baseball fan, but I have never ever been a baseball fan. Soccer? I've been #RCTID since 1976. Football? I've been a Seahawks fan since I learned to understand football. Basketball? I can vividly remember celebr...

Trying to find a song based on a very tiny fragment of memory

There's a song, I think I only heard one time likely on KGON in Portland, OR and likely in the late 70s. This song has haunted me over the years but I have never been able to locate it again.

The one thing I really remember is that there is a spoken-word portion where the vocalist talks about the Boogie Woogie, but pronounces it more like Boozhi Woozhi.

I'm laying in bed quarantined with Covid and once again its memory and my inability to determine what song it was is haunting me.

    Favorites Broken on Series X

My favorites broke. They were working great but now they don't work at all. I can't favorite anything there icon sits in the middle of the plus sign and I can't move it to any open slot. Things I had already favorites continue to work, but I can't add new things or swap things out.

I've tried dropping my entire inventory and then picking things back up but that is not resolving there issue. It's not game-breaking but it is frustrating.

I own XCOM 2 on PC. Is it worth getting it on the Series X so I can play while sitting on the couch?

    BTA 3062

Shortly after my previous post about BEX, my merc company folded due to a lack of funds.

I took the opportunity to install BTA and give it a try. I love the depth, I love the details, but I'm really struggling with the lack of a cohesive art style. I'm finding it pulling me out of my suspension of disbelief.

Has anyone else had that difficulty? Will I outgrow it with time?

Is the video game fair game here? or is it table top only?

If the video game is fair game...

I've been playing BEX, and I suck at it mostly. I always play Ironman, so that entails lots of restarts. I finally have a merc company that has lasted a bit. I've moved up to 2 and 2.5 skull missions.

Needed some money quickly and took a 1.5 skull mission. Comstar showed up, wiped my lance it was the last mission in my current system, I didn't know what I was going to do to not go bankrupt.

Discovered I had Shadowhawk in cold storage sold it, started taking out my "starter" mechs on half-skull and one-skull missions, I'm starting to become a bit more financially solid again and may have survived afterall.
