Google lays off hundreds of 'Core' employees, moves some positions to India and Mexico
  • I would say it is fine. It would increase the wages in India and at some point the pay would equal to the person who lives in the USA.

Location based pay shouldn't be there, as I have seen the differences in real life.

A bunch of people works on a ship, all part of same team does same job. But their pay is based on their home location.

People who came from Nordic region earn more and people from east Asia earns way less, though the job is exactly same.

  • What are some things that Linux can't do, but Windows can?
  • I started using Google sheets. I know the implications on storing/sharing personal data with Google.

But Google sheets is being used as my mini db to store all kind of data. I automated many stuff with Google app script with telegram bot.

I am 100% sure that now I can live without Excel.

  • Which pill do you choose?
  • It's kind of curse to live knowing what's going to happen to our dear ones, but on the other way I could spend some extra time who is not with me now.

Earning $10mil will not be my motive if I am going to live this life again..

What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?
  • I agree the software is bad. All my phones bought after nexus 4 was made by Xiaomi. They give option to unlock bootloader and flash custom rom.

Not all the phones get official lineage os support, but almost all snapdragon versions get custom rom support.

I gave my Redmi Note 4 to my mom, which is 6 years old and running latest OS with recent security patches. None of the other OEMs were supported upto this period (just give exception to Samsung Galaxy 2).

  • My first attempt at this kind of carving. Mirror frame in basswood
  • I have no knowledge on wood working.. but I can say it's amazing for the first try.

I write code. When I look at the code/logics that I have written years ago, I would amaze by myself that how did I really do it. Hope you would have similar feeling in few years

    • It was open-sourced a long time back after the dev felt the number of users who bought and the amount of time he spent didn't feel profitable.
    • I tried using it, but stopped moving all my financial data as it can't handle multiple currencies.
    • The web interface on mobile browsers was very basic, not sure it's still the same.
  • What was your best purchase?
  • Creative sbs 370 2.1 speakers; using it for 19 years. The sound quality is the same as day 1.

The wired remote stopped working after 15 years, so I cut it off and connected the wires.

    > found the api key and url from the app log.

    > MF, they track 20+ parameters for each trip including the number of times the horn is pressed

    > why the horn count? What are they going to get by tracking it? 🤔

    > all the EVs are privacy nightmares.

How do you make peace with a mistake you made?

We all make mistakes knowingly or unknowingly. But a few mistakes that I made in the past still haunt me. How do I overcome those?
