I hate discovering new music. Why is it difficult?
  • That's incredible. I was writing out a lot about how it's one of those things where if you're not great at it, you can just glom on to somebody who is, but was having some difficulty with the wording and scrolled down. So are you feeding @Gorillatactics album recommendations now and if so, can the rest of us get in on that?

  • Again I circle back to the humane option for dealing with chuds is putting them in pleasure cubes they can never escape from.
  • Baiting them into quitting just selects for a bait-averse capitalist. Tom from MySpace decided to enjoy his life and we got Zuck.

  • Feminism and Astrology
  • Have you read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_far_future? I showed it to somebody who left religion decades earlier and could see what a gut punch it still was. I think he had basically substituted indefinite space exploration for heaven and finding out that even that's not an option was like losing faith a second time.

  • If you were a caveman and saw an eclipse, what would you think was happening?
  • I went to the totality zone of the solar eclipse and people were giving their little kids the lunar eclipse explanation, saying the earth's shadow was going to cover the moon. People who deliberately came to the event where what was going on was explained countless times got it that wrong. People back then were just as smart as us; not very. The only reason there weren't freak-outs of historical importance is that the whole thing is over before you can organize a cult around it.

  • What is an important "butterfly moment" for you that helped push you towards leftism later on?
  • Watching All Quiet on the Western Front (1979) in history class. Since Vietnam, war coverage in the US has been heavily censored, often to the point where we're just given casualty figures. I don't know how other people process those figures, but their reactions seem to me like they aren't processing them at all. The words are spoken, the number displayed on the screen and the audience waits for sports and the weather. To me, it's that number times some nightmare-fuel death from that movie.

After school came 9/11, then the Iraq invasion, then the '04 election where the democrats put up Kerry, who had voted for the war. I could vote for an instigator of that unfathomable amount of suffering or for an enabler. I wish I had just written off democrats then instead of falling for Bernie years later.

  • Jackass Steve-O backs out on transphobic prank after a "profound" conversation with a trans person
  • Knowing more than 3 flags is nerdery to a chud. Even if one realized what flag you were carrying, they'd have to weigh the possibility of getting punched and being told to "shut up, nerd" after announcing it. I think you'd stand a good chance of going home safely.

  • [Eric Adams crime family news] Chief Counsel to Eric Adams Resigns Amid Federal Investigations
  • Are there more specific rumors as to the investigations out there that the times isn't printing? I feel like I just finished an episode and have to contend with the post-episode thread for a week.

My guilty secret is that I like to listen to Journey when working out. But then I see the music videos and this image always ruins it for me
  • If Journey's worst offense is looking uncool, that puts them ahead of most classic rock bands. Also now have Wheel in the Sky playing in my head and about to play it out loud, thanks (seriously).

  • So Emily Armstrong, the new Linkin Park lead singer, may or may not be a Scientologist apparently
  • It really seems like it's dying out. Or at least isn't attracting any newer Tom Cruises. Like look where we are, on a thread where the maybe-scientologist's name requires elaboration because most people aren't familiar.

  • 1.7% of all gsw patients in the US shot themselves in the dick (this is not a bit post this is real)
  • Still inaccurate -- 1.7% of GSW patients are there for GSW to the penis (GSWP). By only considering patients, there's a bias against GSWs where treatment was not sought. If a bullet grazes my shoulder while I was doing something I don't want known to everybody, I might try to treat it at home. GSWP? I'm going to see a doctor, a real doctor, not somebody's cousin who almost finished nursing training, an actual doctor, so the second wound ends up in the numerator and denominator while the first contributes to neither.

  • What's the worst movie you've ever seen?
  • Moonfall. Started it on a plane 10 minutes too late to see the whole thing, came home and immediately pirated it to get closure on that garbage.

  • Wouldn't that be great, too? Five-base baseball with no commercials, a new World Series where the name isn't a joke and they keep the name because what's the imperial core doing to do about it?

  • Landleech error in my favor?

My renewal letter says, in part, "[i]f you fail to fully execute a new lease by September 22, 2024, your lease will go to Month to Month at the rate of $0.00."

If they don't correct that, can I stay rent-free?
