  • I don't know, I tried it and it commented its code. Who does that?

  • It was created for sports. Can't have state school linebackers sacking the fancy lads.

  • There will be a lot of work on the other end -- protecting individual CEOs. Some will want to emulate the whole secret service. That will be untenable, though; are we really going to shut down major highways not just for presidential visits but for anyone on the forbes 400? They'll decide it's more efficient if they come under actual secret service protection. A significant proportion of our future comrades will point to the day the feds just straight-up listed out who's in charge as their radicalizing experience.

  • You have to assume a significant failure rate for any equipment on a bus and then increase that a lot for equipment not vital to the functioning of the bus. Hope he chose a struggling operator.

  • Eric Adams: "bring me the Parker Brothers!"

  • I was thinking about my next move in socks, then remembered my last move in socks and then this post.

One of the things holding me back from being a shorts guy was that I never had socks I was happy to show the world when I wore them. I went to the store to address that and found these low-cut ballerina-slipperesque socks in the mens' section. I checked the package to confirm that it had the "M" of approval, bought them and took them home. Only after trying to wear them did I realize that they failed the most basic test of a sock, separating my foot skin from my shoes.

Another time, I was looking for a scarf but felt compelled to seek out an employee to confirm that the scarves were unisex and I wasn't going to commit a faux pas by buying from the wrong pile. Now that I search, though "women's scarves" does appear to be a real category.

And then there was my first winter somewhere really cold. I went to a bougie store and got a winter hat ahead of when I would actually need it. When I did put it on, it was really roomy. I have a big head so I had never experienced that before. The only explanation that I could think of was that the hat was designed to allow a big elaborate hairstyle underneath to maintain its shape underneath. "Had I bought a women's hat?" I asked not one, but two friends and we didn't come to any definitive conclusions but since I had been wearing the hat around for a week, decided to keep doing so.

I wish I hadn't been programmed to care so much about the appropriateness of clothes to my gender.

Back to socks, though; the ballerina socks were among the few I've thrown out before wearing holes into them. All of my other socks have fallen into the "fine" or the "bad but I'll still wear them" categories. Some have to be thrown out and I want to be a little more deliberate in my shopping this time because I'm traveling for a while and can't take the whole drawer with me. Does anyone have socks they really like? They will be subject to much walking in warm but not scorching temperatures. Brand, fabric or style recommendations would be great.

  • I don't know, those photos are still up and everywhere. If that's somebody else, wouldn't they have found out by now and made some sort of effort to clear their name to not get got?

  • Cheapo Ygly didn't tip 2.79, he tipped 10%, or 2.787. Similarly, the tax isn't exactly 3.08, either. You sometimes get different results if you round to the nearest penny and add or if you add and then round.

  • It was super early. Hope they were able to get back to sleep.

  • Rounding and addition don't necessarily commute.

  • Neolibs share Trump's disdain for the people in military but had to feign outrage that he expressed it. Dude probably wanted to phone up some generals a couple weeks ago and get them on his side but thought it would look so tacky to butter them up so close to the big event.

  • It was toddler crack. I was not allowed to say "Moana" in front of my friends' kid because it would trigger an obsession that could only be calmed by sitting her in front of it. Kids who were obsessed with the first one are now aware of what a theater is and how to manipulate their parents into taking them there.

  • Ah, I think this is what I was referencing in my comment. It works fine with Brave.

  • There should be a link . . . somewhere? where you can create an app of sorts on your phone. I don't know if it's a standalone browser, in which case those should work, or if it just uses your default browser, in which case those might remain broken. I don't know if I'm bad at finding it or if that link is hidden if you've already created the app.
