I think people are missing that this is the 2nd most taught foreign language, not the 2nd most taught language. So there's the native language, then the most taught foreign language, and then the 2nd most taught foreign language. I'd imagine for quite a few countries that English is the most taught foreign language, particularly ones that heavily rely on tourism.
Edit: just noticed it even says that in the text on the right.
Our voting system sucks, the media on the whole leans towards the right wing, and in general the population isn't very politically informed / literate and is easily swayed by fearmongering and misinformation. Plus the good old fashioned selfishness of the people who are well off or comfortable.
They do, or at least have done. A guy I worked with a few years ago was ordained as an Anglican minister, and then converted to Catholicism and kept his wife.
I think make sure she knows you're on her side, and that you don't value the opinion of those people. "I just don't understand why they are so critical of your body and feel the need to comment on you all the time. You're a healthy weight, and you look incredible, its just bizarre that they behave that way. What is their problem? I wonder if it's jealousy, or maybe they've been brought up to be insecure about their bodies, such a shame to be like that, I'm glad we're not like that" etc. Keep trying to reinforce that this is their issue, not hers.
Also I want to share that when I searched online for Palestinian NGOs, I got hundreds of results from an organisation called 'NGO Monitor' who claim to give unbiased information on NGOs. A lot of the information on their pages seemed quite emotive and unbaly, and did some digging. In reality they are a right wing Israeli organisation that just focuses on listing allegations of terrorism funding / sympathies against charities and NGOs that works in Palestine, they don't back up allegations with good sources and they don't give any other information on what the organisation does. So be mindful of that if you do any online research, they seem to have made sure searches for certain topics throw up loads of their pages, and they have a definite bias and reason for existence.
Medical Aid for Palestinians seem to be one of the few UK registered charities who are managing to get work done on the ground. Israel and Egypt are still (afaik) blocking a lot of aid getting through.
Stuffed vine leaves. I made them once for a gathering I had and they took me about 3 hours in all. Everyone loved them but for the time they took me, and how much of a pain in the arse they were to make, it wasn't worth it. The ready made ones in tins are just fine.
Plenty of people have been spiked by a partner in exactly this way. It's not a funny joke. Someone making this kind of joke and thinking it's acceptable is shitty. Someone who's a leading politician, in a job responsible for crime and justice, at a political function in a government venue, telling this joke to a group of women... The unacceptable is off the charts there. I seriously worry about someone with that lack of judgement and humanity being in a job like that. Criticising and holding people in power to account for their actions is not 'cancel culture '.
What are you talking about? Anti-Semitism is rife in lots of the middle east. The protocols of the elders of Zion are still circulated as fact. And Malaysia isn't in the middle east?
That's beyond insulting, I'd call that a controlling / abusive relationship. And if his wife seriously thinks he's a risk to their child why the fuck would she have a baby with him and stay with him? That poor kid is going to grow up with a really damaging view of men, male / female relationships, and parental relationships.
I still hold that a lot of the anti mask conspiracy theories were fuelled by those who have financial and political interests in facial recognition surveillance. I have no evidence to base this on, it just makes sense to me that they would be threatened by everyone suddenly masking up.
I was brought up before showers were something that most people had installed, and we just washed at the sink with a flannel cloth. We washed face, pits, bum, and feet twice a day, and only had a bath once or twice a week. I still just do a wash of the important bits at the sink with a cloth if I'm feeling very apathetic.
