  • I swapped to linux this summer from Win10 and have absolutely no regrets.

Actually, that's not true, I do have one regret: I can no longer take advantage of the PC half of my Gamepass Ultimate subscription. It was nice being able to play games on PC that are just better with KBM (recent example: Steamworld Build would be much better on PC than console).

Beyond that one thing, which I will get over eventually, no regrets. Every game I want to play on my PC works perfectly fine so far. I'm not a linux guy. I don't tweak things. I just turn on my computer and use it for normal computer things and then turn it off. Surfing the net, gaming, word/excel type things, Discord, Steam, etc. Everything normal works easy peasy on linux now.

Most average home users could get their computer preinstalled with linux and never know the difference after a day of figuring out where the new "shut down" button is and such. Hopefully MS keeps driving people away so we can get more people on linux so even more things work easy peasy.

  • No argument there. I like the Bolt as is it is. But that doesn't mean they're going to leave well enough alone when they could get more marketing points AND more profits at the same time.

  • I'm not optimisitc that they'll keep the price low. Guess it could happen...

  • Cheap relative to the US EV market. Not cheap on an absolute scale, but it's trending in the right direction at least.

Too bad maintenance costs on an Italian car are probably going to cancel some of that out.

  • Surprised this crap has this many upvotes. Guess it's a sign that Lemmy is growing...

...but it sure would be nice not to have to see shitpost memes upvoted to the top of non-meme communities.

  • Not a lot of brake maintenance on a car that barely uses the brake because of regenerative braking. I've changed the tires more than the brake pads on my Tesla.

  • This. It needs to be visually uncomplicated so I can actually see what's living on the desktop. Because of that, I prefer bottom right the most, though I generally like much darker backgrounds. Color shift that into something darker like an alien or night scene, and it'd be perfect for me.

  • Sure, that’s definitely a feature for customers.

You misunderstand: the advertisers are the customers.

  • Yeah no shit. Every hyped new EV is more expensive than the last. They just discontinued the cheapest EV you can buy in the US (the Chevy Bolt) and they say they're going to replace it with an equivalent on the new platform but I will eat my hat if it's not more expensive than the Bolt.

And of course the Cybertruck finally comes out, years too late and significantly more expensive than originally hyped.

People WANT to drive EV's but they need to make them affordable to regular people.

They claim the battery s the big expense but here's the thing: I have a PHEV with like 35 miles of electric range that is perfectly fine on electric only for weeks at a time. Sure, lots of people need EV's with huge range. But TONS of people don't! I suspect the first mfr to clue into that will make money hand over fist.

  • (according to Xbox achievements I’m one of only 6% to bother reaching level 50)

When everyone gets to try it for free via Gamepass, you're going to get very different statistics than when everyone has to shell out the money for the game and fight through the shit gameplay thanks to sunk cost fallacy.

  • I feel like this post is guerilla marketing for "TempleOS", which I've never heard of before and will absolutely not be looking up after this.

  • Might finally pick up Risk of Rain 2...

  • Well, there is a pretty large community of gamers who play games on Youtube and Twitch professionally. You could always watch someone else play it briefly to get an idea of what to expect. Once you eventually find some games you really like the style of, you will be in good shape. You can then ask for more targetted recommendations here on Lemmy, or look up reviews for games in a similar genre, or find streamers who play games you like and look through their old videos for similar games (they tend to stick to a style usually), etc.

First step, I think, is figuring out not what you don't like, but what you DO like.

  • There are lots of games out there, and just like any kind of entertainment, some will hold your hand and some won't. Everyone has different tastes, different things they want to do with their time, different amounts of time and money, and there are games that cater to all of them.

Unfortunately, the only way to tell which is which without playing it first is by doing a little research.

So it seems like you're a little stuck, you either play a game blind and hope it's right for you, or you look into it beforehand to figure it out before spending your money. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect but hey, you do you. Good luck!

  • Personally, I find that researching games on the internet can be really fun. I get analysis paralysis pretty badly (I'm the guy who is always worried he will be out of consumables when he needs them so he never uses them in the first place!) so researching a little beforehand helps me enjoy myself more. I don't need to min/max the fun out of a game, but knowing I'm on the right track is really good for my enjoyment levels.

And this is very much a me thing, and that's okay. We play games to have fun so play the way that's the most fun for you. If you don't like doing research before you play, but the game seems to require it, then play something else. It's okay to not like a game. (I wasn't super into BG3... shhh! Don't tell the internet or they will burn me alive! Good game, but not for me.)

Personally, I really like rogue-lites these days. They're games where you are meant to replay them and every run will be randomized in some way so that each one ends up being unique. (Hades, FTL, Nova Drift, those sorts of games.) The randomness makes it so that there's no WRONG way to play, just better or worse choices for a given run, which takes that "stress" of making a wring choice away for me.

You gotta find what floats your boat and don't worry about the other games.

  • Weird how reading the article will sometimes give more information than just reading the headline, isn't it?

  • Because people stopped buying them. They decided they'd rather be safer at the expense of everyone else on the road. 'Merka! Fuck yeah!

  • Le gasp! A billionaire doing something that's ethically dubious?!? What is the world coming to when we can't trust billionaires to do the right thing?
