Do you donate money? How, why, why not?
  • I had some good fortune and more money than I was used to a while back. I tried to help good causes when they presented themselves, as my way of paying it forward.

Nowadays, things are a bit more tight. I'm asking homeless people for change. Ok, not that bad, but it's definitely not my time to share.

  • A Thank You to this Community (and another question!)
  • I just want to point out that inside cats often find a way to become outside cats. Some never try, but don't rule it out.

Other than that, if she never gets out and you don't get any more cats, I don't see why it would be an issue not to.

  • What's you take on single women having IVF children and the effect of those future fatherless adults into society?
  • Your argument seems to revolve around:

More parents = more resources = better children

How about a single mom who is a self made millionaire? She sold her internet startup for more money than you and I will ever see and retired at 30. She can spend 24 hours a day with her child, and never has to worry about money for the rest of her life.

What can your average middle class married heterosexual couple provide that she can't?

Also, I'm curious what your thoughts are on a polygamous/ polyandrous household. Let's say a woman has three husbands, and they are all parents to that child. That should be twice as good as just one mom and dad, right? Does it change your opinion if it's one man with three wives?

  • What's your take on having romantic relationships with single parents?
  • Thankfully, my wife and I were both open to seeing single parents. Now we are married parents with more kids than we started with!

If you mean as a person without kids, I have a tip: YOU SHOULD NOT BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE KID.

That's not too say that you aren't special or important, it's just that the kid(s) are children that rely on their parent to exist. That's a big responsibility, and it needs to be respected. You're a grown ass adult and you can take care of yourself. If you can't deal with your partner not restructuring their whole life around you, then stay away from people with kids.

You don't need to shift your own priorities and make their child your number one, (maybe if things go well in the long term, that will happen on its own) but, if you go out of your way to at least be friends with the kids, or learn a little bit about them, that's going to score a TON of points with the parent.

  • What's you take on single women having IVF children and the effect of those future fatherless adults into society?
  • A child with one loving parent is better off than a child with any number of disgruntled uninvested parents.

A single mom who goes through all the effort that IVF requires is someone who REALLY wants children. That's someone who will appreciate the gift of parenthood and make sure that they don't waste it.

I'm more concerned with the children that were forced to be born against their parents' wishes. Those children will be seen as a burden that was forced upon their parents. They will be resented, and more likely to be neglected or abused. They will grow up never learning what love and kindness is, and they will take that hatred and spread it into the world, or give up on themselves and turn to drugs, or an abusive relationship.

  • Trying to come up with a list of vague words for different "kinds of animals". Help?
  • That's not too far off from how Germans name animals.

Bat: flutter mouse Skunk: stink beast Tortoise: shield toad Raccoon: wash bear Porcupine: spike pig Turkey: threatening chicken

There's so many more! Go look some up for a laugh.

  • How do you scream?
  • Fun tip! And now I'm sure there are people nearby wondering why I'm making these strange noises.

I've always wondered how you guys can go more than one song without hurting yourselves.

  • Is driving a car this awful all the time?
  • It scared the hell out of me too, but soon it'll be just like walking. When you were first learning to walk, you fell down a lot, and although most of us don't remember it, you were probably reluctant to try again after falling. But you kept trying and it became second nature. Keep practicing and soon you'll be singing along with the radio, eating a burrito and sending texts while merging across 6 lanes of traffic without even thinking about it.

Ok, maybe don't do ALL those things. Just stick with it!

  • Is there a word for mangled idiom that becomes commonplace
  • Fair enough. My initial quick google research implied otherwise.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, although I'm not finding anything that uses the term dry liquid to refer to Tetrachloroethylene. Sounds to me like another misnomer. But, I won't say you're wrong.

  • I'm listening to a motivational speaker at a corporate conference when I realize...

Corporate America has programmed people to HUSTLE! BE THE BEST! ACHIEVE! MAKE MORE MONEY!!! for so long that they now need to pay someone to come and teach us how to relax, enjoy the moment and be happy again.

Local estate auction, featuring Nazi token and case of condoms.

I was relieved to see there were no bids on the Nazi trash.

I wonder if there's some guy out there that collects little metal cars who really wants to bid, but doesn't want to be the guy who bought the Nazi coin.

Has anyone ever been to a political candidate rally? What was it like?

I've been invited to attend a Tim Walz rally tonight, and I have no idea what to expect. Share your stories and get me pumped up to see our next VP!

Update: Everybody was right, lots of standing and clapping, but what I really didn't expect was the sense of family I felt with all these strangers around me. We'd bump into each other, and laugh it off, one guy was telling me about how his son was thinking about going to the college that I work at (I was still wearing my shirt from work), and we all just knew that we were working together to make great things happen. I'll probably skip the next one, but it was a great experience. I'm glad I went, and would recommend going to one if you have a chance, and a candidate you believe in.

If malls continue to shut down and decay over the next twenty years, someone should turn them into retirement communities for GenX and Millennials.

Imagine apartments built into what used to be department stores, (Oh, you're JC Penny 203? I'm at Sears 106). Get those old arcades up and running. Set up meal stations at the food court. Once people actually live there, stores will start to move back in.

If I'm unable to finish my life in my own home, that doesn't sound like a terrible option.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Amazon series?

My kids and I watched the first two episodes last night, and I'm impressed. It feels like Fallout. I like the characters so far, and they squeeze in enough game references to keep my brain spiking with recognition.

We set the bar pretty low on video game adaptations, but I feel this one's doing alright so far!

What does everyone else think? (Let's keep spoilers to a minimum. Most of us probably weren't able to watch the whole thing in one night.)

My son found this little girl on the streets.

She is currently heading home with a clean bill of health and about to meet her new siblings!
