All the successes listed for that year were sequels/prequels, so there’s an element of playing it safe. This year’s were all originals, which is ambitious, and to be honest, laudable. Just a shame they were shit.
Is there a way to configure the watch to more accurately record treadmill running?
I’ve used the watch a couple of times while on the treadmill at the gym, and the distance the watch thinks I’ve run is way off what the treadmills think. I’m inclined to believe the treadmill output based on all it having to do is measure the speed it’s spinning, and not best-guessing it like the watch would have to. However I need to run 5.5k on the treadmill for the watch to think I’ve run 5k, which is a huge variance for a 5k. I’ve tested this on different treadmills with the same resulting variance.
I’m sure the Fitbit I had years ago allowed me to configure stride length to get a more accurate measurement, but I can’t find anything like that on the watch. Can anything be done to improve it?
The vibe’s very different without Sid James and Barbara Windsor.
This is really well written. I absolutely love the line:
Their flock grew ever more numerous, collecting like claw marks on a cell door.
Or is there…?
Not worth giving them the traffic.
It’s the fucking Daily Mail, and should be completely avoided anyway.
No worries. It’s a mix of both. If the kids are watching TV, I’ll stream direct from the Xbox. If we’re playing a game like Forza, then they’ll be on the Xbox with their own accounts, and I’ll be using cloud gaming to join them.
Although they have their own accounts, they’re set up under Microsoft Family (or whatever Microsoft have branded it this week) to be in my family, but I don’t think that has any bearing on the setup.
I have a Game Pass Ultimate subscription and there’s only one Xbox in the household, and that has both theirs and my account on it. So they can be signed in and playing online on the Xbox, and have access to all the Game Pass games, and I can sign into cloud gaming on another device.
Since I’m the account holder for Game Pass, if I were playing on the Xbox, they wouldn’t be able to use cloud gaming, so the only way we get to play Game Pass multiplayer games (with one subscription) is if they’re on the Series X, and I’m on cloud.
Edit: one last thing - cloud gaming is pretty flawless for me (for the most part). Something like Rocket League is tricky because the unavoidable extra lag makes all the difference, but most games I’m interested in are unaffected. I have a decent network setup though (for the UK), with fibre to the premises, and multiple wireless access points all wired directly to the main router, so the whole house gets about 300Mbps down and 50Mbps up, with a decent ping. The Xbox is also wired directly to the router. Ensuring the WiFi is adequate wherever you’re playing is the biggest factor.
To be honest, I’m rarely gaming for long enough for it to be a problem. It’s come in ideal for when one of the kids is using the Xbox on the TV, and they want to play a game like Forza with me, so I’m generally lying on the sofa playing with the controller on my lap, where the weight’s not an issue. It’s not exactly a Switch mind you, but it’s far more preferable to the phone and Backbone combo I was using previously.
I’ve been looking for ages for a mount for an Xbox controller big enough to hold an 11” iPad Pro, since I’m old and a phone screen isn’t big enough for me to play games on these days. There doesn’t seem to be anything that supports a screen that big, so inspired by a Reddit post from a couple of years ago, I bought two separate mounts and combined them.
The key is to find a controller mount and iPad holder that both each have a ball socket connection so you can combine the two.
It’s clearly heavier than a phone would be, but works really well.
These are the two parts of the mount:
As a Brit, I have to agree. So many of the skits that have been shared over the years are terrible, and I have to wonder if it’s a cultural divide.
On the other hand, the weekend update where the guys swap jokes is some of the best comedy I’ve seen.
Get fucked Reform. Sincerely, Wales
Difficult to argue against this. GrassRootsGoals Instagram account is far more entertaining than MOTD.
Yeah I get that, and that’ll be because of the long term financial benefits of enticing the companies there. But still…€13bn is a mad figure.
It sounds so bizarre that Ireland has been fighting in court to avoid having to receive €13bn from Apple.
My comment was satirical
Makes sense, thanks
Apple today announced that new satellite-based communication features are heading to the UK and Canada with iOS 18. The company today said that...
Genuine question because I can’t work it out - if the satellite services are used when the user has no network service, how can “carrier fees may still apply” work? Surely the absence of a carrier network signal and the use of satellite services means that you’re not using the carrier’s network, so how can they apply a charge?
This job sounds like it could be replaced by AI
Remember when a chocolate orange didn’t have fucking hollowed-out concave segments? I do Terry, you greedy prick.
Having seen it crop up few times within various posts, I looked up the word ‘cromulent’. Merriam-Webster gave a cromulent answer, except for this bit that doesn’t travel so well to this side of the Atlantic.
I was reading this list of the 50 greatest sci-fi movies of the last 50 years, and it was all fairly predictable. There’s only a couple that I’d disagree with, but there were a few that would have made the list in place of them if I were compiling it myself, and I realised my additions were less mainstream or less critically acclaimed than were on there.
What guilty-pleasure sci-fi movies would you recommend?
For starters, ones I’ve watched a bunch of times would be:
Dredd (2012)
Pandorum (2009)
Lockout (2012)
Monsters (2010)
Since hypnotherapy can be effective for a percentage of the population for various treatments, why is it not offered as a standard therapy for everyone in terms of setting them up for health benefits at a younger age? For example, some people claim to have had successful results with hypnotherapy as a smoking cessation tool. If it’s effective, why is it not offered more widely as a smoking prevention tool, or healthy eating tool, or any other pro-healthy lifestyle aid before those bad habits are formed? Preventing smoking, or suggesting healthy food habits at a young age would save the NHS (or other public healthcare provider) billions long-term if it was effective. It seems like, if hypnotherapy is generally accepted as a mechanism to treat certain conditions (which it appears to be in various quarters of traditional medicine), why is it used more as a reactive treatment rather than a proactive one?
Anyone know how long specific bundles are available to purchase on Apple TV? Do they change monthly or something, or would a specific bundle be perpetually available to buy?
The voice recognition system seems not to have recognised what customers were really ordering.
Just had some requirements through for a query that a customer has specified.
“Set the value to 1 if the Outcome is not Complete or Cancelled or NULL”
This could be variously interpreted as:
“if the Outcome is NOT Complete and NOT Cancelled and NOT NULL”
Or “if the Outcome is NOT Complete, and NOT Cancelled, or IS NULL”
Or perhaps even “if the Outcome is NOT ‘Complete or Cancelled’ or IS NULL”
Obviously I’ll go back to them for clarity, but it’s a wonder why so often “bugs” arise based on interpretation of specifications.
My other half discovered that some dodgy person/company had managed to send instagram messages advertising handbags to all of her followers from her account. She changed her password immediately, but what could have happened here? Is it the case that a “hacker” had access to her full instagram account, or would they have used some tool that allows posting of messages via some kind of proxy without requiring access to her actual account? There was no record of other logged in devices on the security page of her account.
Update: She’s just been through her junk email folder and found a “We’ve noticed a new login” email from instagram yesterday, so I presume that means they were fully in to the account then. How they got the password is anyone’s guess, but could be any of the suggestions below. Thanks all for the responses.
The Delta emulator is absolutely superb, particularly given that it’s free with no ads, a rarity on iOS. I’ve barely stopped playing DS games since I downloaded it. My other half is dying to have a go on her phone, but I’ve not had an Android device for ages. Has anyone got any recommendations for equivalent Android DS emulators that are free/ad-free, simple to use, and hopefully as polished as Delta that I can send her way?
I bought one thing from Wayfair and got nine emails about it over the course of four days.
