Talk me out of an 18" dishwasher. (or into it)
  • I've gotten some good deals on lightly used 24" dishwashers. I've never seen an 18" come up, though I'm sure they're out there. I think I paid about 50% of MSRP on my current one that has been very good to me.

I see lots of people saying there are plenty of 18"s, and I'm sure that's true if you buy them new. I guess I just wanted to agree with you and share my experience.

Why are mental hospitals run like prisons?
  • If someone has been involuntarily committed it means they've already shown an intention to harm themselves or others. So the goal is not to stop them from feeling bad but to physically prevent them from doing harm.

  • If I had my way, regulations would require a physical connection for all door handles, and not just that a secondary physical release be available. I don't know how you would go about finding injuries associated with each design as a layperson, but I bet there's a death or two associated with each novel design.

An old man roasted in his Cadillac XLR because the battery was dead and he didn't know where the secondary release was. I think it's under the seat on that car. I don't care how cool that electronic door release was, or if the old man was negligent in not knowing his exits; it wasn't worth his life.

  • It's up to you to break generational trauma
  • That's how I like to see us too, but I've definitely met some Z hating millennials.

I met a fellow "old millennial" recently who said "we're the last generation to be raised right". I disagree, but hearing it from a guy my age really cemented me in old man status.

Then he told me he had 3 kids. Who's responsible for raising that generation!? Lol.

  • This tweet was from 2022. Can someone go check if the prediction came true?
  • The creamers and syrups are very weird. Some people here are passionate about them too. It's always a mixed bag when someone says they're picky about their coffee.

My go-to is a big pour over, maybe 15g of coffee and 500mL of water. Of course, being American, I measure everything with plastic spoons from McDonalds instead of a scale. I like espresso too, but I'm not big on lattes. Generally no cream, sugar, or anything added.

On the other end of the spectrum is diner coffee. Usually strong but stale. It's not my favorite but it has a special place in my heart.

If you ever do meet an American coffee snob ask them what they like. We have a whole variety of them.

  • This is the first time I've thought about Tucker in months. In a way I'm glad, because it reminded me that he's not often in my life anymore, but if we could all just stop mentioning him until he fades completely that would be great.

  • Mountain bikes that are considered equivalents to Jeeps and Land Cruisers?
  • There are bikes out there with driven front wheels. Jeep and Hummer have even released bikes under their brands with this design. It has a shaft that travels through the downtube to the front wheel.

This is not a design that is taken seriously in performance biking, at least as far as I know. Maybe there's a low speed rock crawling group that I'm unfamiliar with. But if you're looking for something unique that can crawl up tough terrain, you might enjoy it.

I'll leave the serious mountain bike recommendations to everyone else. There are plenty of good ones here already.

  • Bicycle headlight - S2/S6/S8 mount on an Origin8 stem
  • It shouldn't, the hotspot is well below eye level unless you're on a recumbent bike. If I ever run into another rider at night I'll let you know.

I should add that it's on maximum brightness for the photo (5A); I don't usually have it that bright to ride.

  • Current and Former (Fast) Food Service Workers - How do you handle requests like “All the fries you can give me”?
  • I agree! And I like to think that, as he looked over his several bottles worth of dressing in a beverage cup, he did learn to consider his words more carefully.

But I didn't mind the whole experience. It's not my dressing and it made for a pretty funny story.

  • Bicycle headlight - S2/S6/S8 mount on an Origin8 stem

    !

    !

Flashlight is an S6 with Osram W1. The mount is designed to aim at about 10 degrees down from the level of the top of the stem, whatever that is. With the Osram the hotspot ends about 20' out.

State of the Convoy S series before I update to buck drivers

    !

    From left to right:

    S2+ TI - XHP50.3 4000k - 4A convoy 6V

    S2+ - 519a 2700k dedomed - 5A Convoy CC

    S2 - Triple 219c 4000K (FW3A) - 5A Convoy CC

    S8 - SFQ65 3000k - Dr. Jones H17Fx

    Roche F12 - 519a 4500k - 5A Convoy CC

    S2 - Osram CSLNM1 - 5A Convoy CC

    S6 - 519a 3500k dedomed - 5A Convoy CC

    !

The boost driver (S2+ TI) and Dr. Jones (S8) are staying where they are, but I plan to replace the constant current drivers with buck drivers. I'm also going to make the S6 a triple with the same 519a 3500K dedomed, swap the 219C Triple for a spare XPL HI from my other FW3A, and trade the Osram for an SFT40; all three of those will get 8A drivers, and the others 5A.

I know the Roche isn't really a Convoy. But I got it from Simon, and they're all just tubes after all.

    New favorite S2+ clip - T4 clip

It's just a little guy, but I think it looks great on the S2+. Some bending required to get the fit right, but they do clip on securely without modification. Be careful bending though; I broke a couple where the arms meet the clip.

    !

It does extend just past the head, but not enough to keep it from tail standing. At least if you align it with the space.

Finally got my S2+ TI set up the way I want it!

XHP50.3 HI 4000K, 6V 4A driver, 20° beaded optic, Sapphire glass from esslinger, the larger convoy switch with a custom printed spacer, black button and clip.

I'd still like to find another clip I like better, but so far I keep coming back to the press on convoy clip. Before this setup I had a Dr. Jones H17Fx with XHP50.3 HD and OP reflector. That setup went into an S8, which I think suits it a little better.
