  • It's true, but I have A) family at home and B) the ability to (with the remote tools) stop prints, get screenshots at a consistent interval of time, and immediately get error messages. I accept the risks whenever I do decide to print unattended

  • That is the correct way of thinking, never trust anything with your passwords.

I was curious on what haveibeenpwned does, so I took a look at what the network tab in dev tools said what was actually sent. When I type a password (say password123) and press check it runs a function that hashes with the "SHA-1" hash function and then sends the first 5 characters of the result. The response is over a thousand lines in the format of 35 hash characters:number of breaches

If any of these hashes are the start of your original hash, you now know it's exposed and how many times it's been exposed.

  • It definitely depends on the software, for example in matrix you can easily cause federation issues in some cases. this won't blow up the fediverse, but it could impact the user experience if they rely on or interact with that instance.

  • I agree, but our justice system has clearly failed us. It's extremely frustrating, which is why a lot of us are very emotionally charged for this issue.

I'm a complete hypocrite, as I believe justice should let some criminals walk free if it means no innocents are punished... but I also want the files unleashed. my guess is it's because I know the people in there will be people I won't like, but still extremely hypocritical and logically conflicting with my morals.

  • If you're still getting server restarts when switching to battery backups, I'd definitely look into a UPS if it bothers/worries you. Doesn't have to be a big one either, just enough to survive switches.

  • If you're only holding then switch to a wallet with private keys that you hold. If you ever decide that you want to trade back to fiat then you can go through an exchange.

If any exchange holds your wallet then you can lose it all if they go bankrupt. If it's your own keys then it's not going anywhere.

  • That's cursed, turtles and tortoises shells are a part of their body, with nerve endings and the like, so they cannot come out of their shell.

Completely by coincidence we had a tortoise in our garage today!
