  • Yeah but people and corporations would have to change and that's too difficult instead we should do something easy like colonize another planet. /s

  • I've been on both sides of this meme

  • Shut up mike
  • The interesting thing was she was/is a middle school teacher. You'd think she would encourage questions, not just look it up.

But I guess she was trying to help me not be ignorant because I was just killing time .... at a party

  • Shut up mike
  • reminds me of a story:

Got invited to a dinner party of people I didn't know well, they were friends of my then girlfriend.

So we were sitting around before dinner chatting and drinking and I brought up a question about something that we were all talking about. I don't remember what it was but the point was just to keep conversation going and to interact with people. BUT one lady just looked at me and said "why don't you just Google it?!" Shut down conversation completely.

Sure I could Google it Karen but that doesn't make for good conversation!

  • Are We Really Going to Let Trump Come Back to Fail Again?
  • The power of location in voting is just weird.

  • US home prices have soared 47% so far this decade, outpacing all of the growth seen in the 1990s and 2010s
  • It's these deep pocket corporations that I think will keep a major housing bubble burst from happening or when it happens it will be fast.

They can buy x number of houses now at these inflated prices, they can but 10x X number of houses with a major downturn in home values. Then with all this buying of homes the prices shoot back up... At least that is how my high school level economics knowledge brain sees it.

  • Small, well-built Chinese EV called the Seagull poses a big threat to the US auto industry
  • I mean at those prices you don't expect too much quality. Unlike Teslas that are poorly built but priced like the aren't

  • r/The_Donald helped radicalize users into far-right identities and discourse – Active users on r/The_Donald increasingly used white nationalist vocabularies in their comments within three months.
  • But that's not true I've heard it straight from the tech-bros mouth. They build these technologies to help us, the little people. To spread peace and love and build deeper connections with the people that we love. I'm sure that they feel pain and guilt that they have to deposit those large checks into their bank accounts. /s

  • Monopoly
  • I remember that game. My dad got it from a very conservative/racist family member - with a note that read something like "too bad I'm white and have to work for my money."

I don't think my dad ever talked to him again.

  • Monopoly
  • This is the most capitalistic game on the market and you still get a $200 UBI

  • World’s top climate scientists expect global heating to blast past 1.5C target
  • There is no world where corporations take responsibility for their emissions and consumers get to continue the same lifestyles.

This is true in the world we live in now. The powers that be like the way things are, They are mostly very old and very rich, they don't give a fuck. This makes it easy for massive corporations that have created this mess to manipulate those in power so they don't have to do anything to be apart of fixing the problems

But there is a world where we could put younger, more concerned people into power that could start to make some changes to how the world works. This won't fix the problem, we are too far along for that, but it would at least (hopefully) not make this planet completely uninhabitable to every form of life.

  • Is This A Game?
  • There is no stopping the justices from putting big caveats around their ruling.

It could be "in this very specific case with this very specific person at this very specific time we agree that the president is immune from prosecution. Any other acts by this or any other president are not included in this ruling."

  • Ladies if all the men of the world disappeared for 24 hours, they are fine they will come back, BUT during those 24 hours what are YOU doing?
  • Only those that are piloted by men... because I'm going to assume you don't mean that women can't/don't drive busses or fly planes?

  • Kim Kardashian joins Kamala Harris at White House to talk criminal justice reform
  • From the article

Kardashian’s advocacy has been credited in part with opening the former president up to the idea of criminal justice reform, eventually leading to the passage of the First Step Act in 2018. The prison-reform law marked a rare moment of bipartisanship during Trump’s presidency, and even some of his harshest critics have lauded its passage.

Not a fan of her or her show but I'm all for her using her fame to help make changes to help people reintegrate back into society.

  • When did you realize that rich people live in a world of their own?
  • A very rich friend of mine decided that they wanted to "take time off" and travel the world. She called her travel agent (10 pm on a Saturday) and got them to build a world trip by Monday afternoon. That Friday she got on a plane and just left for 9 months of travel. There was never a sense of this being a big deal or extravagant but more of a quirky whim.

It was then that it occurred to me that while we live on the same planet we don't live in the same world.

  • Climate damages by 2050 will be 6 times the cost of limiting warming to 2°
  • This one kills me too.

I've posted this a few times because it says a lot about the priorities of America. We have the money, we just don't have the political power to get that money to do what it needs to do.

  • What's a common occurrence in your hobby that you think shouldn't be?
  • how do you hold on to that massively broad brush you use ?

  • But how would they be able to live on that?
  • To play off of your comment - taxes should be sold as a patriotic act. That through taxes we can make the lives of all citizens of this country better and that if you love this country you are willing to sacrifice a small % of your money to make that happen. Those people that are willing to sacrifice for their country are the true patriots.

On the other hand those people that complain about paying more, like some billionaires and millionaires, are the true takers. They used this country and it's systems to build that success but are not willing to sacrifice anything to pay it back.

How do you get an executable from a GitHub link?

I see a lot of posts for apps that I would like to try but they all send me to a Github link - What is the process for getting an executable of these apps? Do I have to compile them myself? OR am I missing the .exe or .zip file option?

I really feel like I'm missing something easy..

The 1st Time Colorado Tried Fracking With A Nuclear Bomb

On Sept. 10, 1969, six and a half miles south of Rulison, Colorado, a 40-kiloton nuclear bomb exploded in the subterranean depths of the Piceance Basin.

The device, more than twice as powerful as the weapon at Hiroshima and with muscle equivalent to 40,000 tons of TNT, was an unorthodox tool in a grand experiment to free natural gas and kickstart a boom. The nuclear age wanted to give the oil and gas age a hand up.

Conservatives have already written a climate plan for Trump’s second term
www.politico.com Conservatives have already written a climate plan for Trump's second term

Hundreds of conservative operatives outlined a plan that Donald Trump, or any Republican, could use to purge climate action from the federal government.

Conservatives have already written a climate plan for Trump's second term

Called Project 2025, it would block the expansion of the electrical grid for wind and solar energy; slash funding for the Environmental Protection Agency’s environmental justice office; shutter the Energy Department’s renewable energy offices; prevent states from adopting California’s car pollution standards; and delegate more regulation of polluting industries to Republican state officials.
