People of Lemmy who have either "reinvented themselves" or gone through a mid/quarter-life crisis, where did you start off and where did you end up?
  • Hey, I just want to say thanks for posting this. I'm just a random internet stranger, but I'm happy for you. I think Fred Rogers sums it up best, he is the epitome of kindness to me.

    It's you I like,

It's not the things you wear,

It's not the way you do your hair

    But it's you I like

The way you are right now,

The way down deep inside you

Not the things that hide you,

    Not your toys

    They're just beside you.

    But it's you I like

    Every part of you.

Your skin, your eyes, your feelings

    Whether old or new.

    I hope that you'll remember

    Even when you're feeling blue

    That it's you I like,

    It's you yourself

    It's you.

    It's you I like.

  • Where can we donate?
  • I don't see anywhere to donate at this time, I'd like to throw five bucks at the project every now and again. GitHub Sponsors may be an option, but there's a wait list it looks like. A lot of third party clients don't have a way to donate yet, which is unfortunate.

  • We need to be more active about commenting!
  • What's the magazine? I'm curious to see if I can sub to a magazine from Lemmy.

  • Firefox + uBlock Origin > Apps
  • Liftoff is my daily driver, Voyager is also great. It's awesome how many open source Lemmy apps are in active development right now.

  • sorting algos ftw
  • Me seeing this meme while actively listening to Lofi Girl:

  • Having ramen for lunch
  • If you're really lazy, you could just guzzle down a can of creamed corn.

  • This is what peak performance looks like
  • It's crazy he (technically) starred in the top two movies at the box office at the time, Fast X and GotG 3.

  • Having ramen for lunch
  • You drink that corn water for the extra vitamins too?

  • Building the fediverse is an investment in us and the open web.
  • Thanks! That reminds me, I need to reinstall ShareX, I knew there was something missing after getting a new PC haha.

  • Building the fediverse is an investment in us and the open web.
  • I love a good underdog story.

  • Building the fediverse is an investment in us and the open web.
  • Buy into your home instance instead by setting up a recurring monthly donation. It's doesn't have to be a lot, some have tiers as low as $1. Alternatively, you could donate to the Lemmy dev team, or some of the devs that are creating these spiffy apps we're using on our phones.

  • Building the fediverse is an investment in us and the open web.
  • I'd also like to know, it looks pretty slick.

  • People from the "hotter" regions, how do you deal with the heat?
  • Hydrate it with water, that should help.

  • If you value privacy, ditch Chrome and switch to Firefox now
  • Gotta love the uBlock Origin extension on Firefox Android!

  • Lemmy.ml ~~is down right now~~ (back online, was unreachable for about 6 hours)
  • lemm.ee has always been solid for me. At this point, I'm debating whether to just make it my primary instance instead.

  • Company's Coming
  • I'm heavily considering buying a set of them on eBay. I should probably sleep on it first.

  • Company's Coming
  • Back when I was a poor kid, our fancy cups were collectable Disney glasses from Burger King.

  • Sunset after thunderstorm last night (Kansas City)
  • I knew we were boned when the Tonganoxie split didn't happen. We were pretty lucky to just have a power blip at my place, it only went out for about 30 seconds. At least there wasn't any hail this time. On a side note, I love sunsets after a good storm, the colors are stunning.

[Self Promo] Watch Party - A Community for Lemmy to Watch and Discuss Movies Together!

I came up with the idea for this community in the shower. What if I want to watch a movie with people from all over the world, and talk about it in a live thread? Live threads for sporting events and TV shows are pretty common, but I don't think I've seen it applied to movies before. The concepts are simple:

    1. Create an announcement post 2-12 hours before you want to host a watch party. This gives people time to find a copy of the movie, if they're interested in participating. If you have the means, you can also mention that you'll be streaming the movie on the official Discord server for those that don't have access to the movie.

    2. Create the live thread 30-60 minutes before the watch party starts. If you're going to be streaming on Discord, be sure to include the link to the server invite as well for anyone that wants to join in at the last minute.

    3. At the designated time, everyone presses play, and discusses the movie in the live thread.
