  • A lot of companies bought ahead of tariffs. It'll even out in a couple of months.

  • The sale is the entire company and assets to Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

    NPR reported in this issue:

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals said last month it aimed to buy the company for $256 million. Regeneron said it would comply with 23andMe's privacy policies and applicable law. It said it would process all customer personal data in accordance with the consents, privacy policies and statements, terms of service, and notices currently in effect and have security controls in place designed to protect such data.

I don't know much about Regeneron Pharmaceuticals but previously I read from others here that they represent the best case scenario.

  • June belongs to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Since Catholics live everywhere, I would say month long celebrations are everywhere.

  • My payroll company came out with a be version that won't work in Linux. They wouldn't accommodate me and I was too deep into their ecosystem to change companies so I ended up having to buy a Windows license so I could run a virtual machine every time I had to do payroll.

Edit: My mistake was getting too dependent on a company that doesn't care about Linux users.

  • China is about a fascist as they come. One virtue doesn't eliminate 100 vices.

  • Hegseth said war is imminent. I have no idea is that's true bit this is the sort of thing you do when you expect war is near.

  • Safety nets are there, it is just that the nets don't provide equality between families. If you are born into a family with parents who divorce, that's a hardship the government cannot entirely protect you from.

  • One of my family members had that job for a good while. What's interesting is the phone companies did not keep great records of what's copper and where it is, so a lot of it is likely to remain in place for a long time. Something else he has seen is thieves cutting fiber, thinking it is copper, and causing outages, although that is less frequent than it was years ago.

  • Although not popular here, this is popular among a large majority of Americans.

  • I seek out out-of-the-way websites maintained by one or two people and then subscribe by RSS. RSS may be the only thing left keeping the web sane.

  • There are certain students the administration is likely going to want as international students. Israelis, white South Africans, and Hungarians, for example.

  • I remember when phone lines were made of copper. We were sure that it would be impossible for everyone to have a phone.

  • I'm going to guess 11 is slower than 10 on equal hardware.

Suicide shows up far too often. Y'all need help!

  • Let's say I speak out of experience. My income sat right on the line and found out that we had a lot better healthcare options with private insurance because so few medical offices wanted to take Medicaid. Those that did were much lower in quality. If I moved to a state that expanded Medicaid, I'd be thrown back into it, and I don't want that to happen. I'm sincerely better off with something else. That's why I know so much about Medicaid vs. Obamacare for families that are above poverty but not wealthy.

  • The roots were more substantial. The political leadership in Moscow took offense when their religious leaders in Kiev (Kiev was the religious capital of their brand of Orthodoxy) went to the Council of Florence and agreed to union with the Catholic Church. Corrupt secular leadership in Moscow feared accountability to anyone so they deposed the Metropolitan (a type of bishop) of Kiev and then ordered the bishops of Moscow to elect their own patriarch. That's how it got started. And the Russian Orthodox are insane. Many go so far as to say that the Catholic Church has no valid sacraments at all. They frequently get in the way of restoration of union between Rome and other Eastern Orthodox but I feel like we've hit a break point where others in the east have had enough. It is time to say "NO" to Moscow. Your political organization masquerading as a religion has done enough harm. Go to the pits of hell where you belong.

  • Archbishop Naumann has a powerful story about his father being murdered and the triumph of Christ over sin. Here he talks about serving as a witness against the death penalty.

  • The Russian Orthodox are in schism from most other Orthodox. You'll need to get more information to get an answer to that question.

Russian Orthodoxy was established from it's foundation as a fake religion that exists to keep political power in Moscow. This is very different from other Orthodox.

  • People on Medicaid are more likely to utilize emergency room services because they have access to fewer providers and have zero incentive to try lower cost services first. It is very reasonable that giving some of these people access to private insurance at very low or no cost will result in significant savings, even after insurer profits since they will be more likely to start with a doctor office visit or urgent care instead of emergency rooms. This should also free ER resources for more urgent medical cases.
