Yeah. It can be seriously annoying to have people judge you for who you were once, or maybe never was even. Often other people's perceptions are not accurate descriptions of who any of us really are.
It's just life I guess.
You are Hillary Clinton?
Shit, even going from a semi active lifestyle to a 9-5 office job will add a belly if you're not hitting the gym.
Only if you keep eating as you did before. People don't change their diets as they get older. They seem unaware / not caring that the belly will come otherwise.
I think it's partly just being OK with getting fat. If you are not attractive anymore anyway because of age, may as well enjoy whatever food you like. And if you are in a relationship, both partners are probably OK with looking not so great anymore as they age.
I'm not sure why this comment is so popular. If you travel, you see many countries on the planet where all women wear makeup all the time.
The WikiLeaks founder has been held in a prison outside London for the last five years and fought extradition to the U.S. He is expected to return to Australia.

Julian Assange is free.
After living in a cell for more than 5 years, he can soon go home and meet his family again.
I'm wondering if it was worth the sacrifice. The governments and tech companies are spying more than ever on everyone.
No I drive fast enough to never have cars behind me. :) So Im actually not part of the problem the thread was discussing, with drivers just driving the same speed in the left lane. That is really frustrating when people do that.
I would go as far as saying that this behavior of driving faster in the left lane helps to make traffic flow a lot better and avoid congestion. But it's not legal.
I dont agree, I use the left lane frequently to not have a car in front of me. Increases visibility and security a lot, and just gives a nice feeling of not being blocked.
I do drive a bit faster than cars in the right lane almost always though.
Yes of course. But have you noticed how everyone assumes that men are staring and making women feel uncomfortable despite nothing like that was expressed?
I've also seen jokes about dicks that everyone seem to think is funny, but when someone mentions actual attraction, the thread goes nuts. :)
Nobody said staring. :)
Lol, it's just not politically correct these days. :)
Human attraction is at the core of human existence and I think it's silly to act like it doesn't exist every day.
This is how you enjoy life. Make people happy being around you, and they do the same for you.
Men looking at women are creeps? Guess im a creep. :)
I'm also trying hard to avoid being in the office, even taking pay cuts for it. I can't sit in a damn office and write code. The stress from trying to block out people moving and talking is exhausting.
100% agree. Desktop should always be a strong priority for the cpu.
I love plasma. It's no longer even buggy for me, and it's really fast and beautiful. You know they are doing something right when windows and Mac users are impressed by it.
It doesn't quite beat mac in terms of looks but it's just so much more powerful.
This release is super important for Nvidia users to try.
A few, but I generally don't look at usernames.
A more cynical take is that they understand very well, but are being compensated by big tech for looking the other way.
Good people often can't comprehend how evil people work, and they say "everyone makes mistakes", or "they don't understand fully". Because we want to think that everyone is mostly good.
It's not like that. :/
Enterprise was my favorite star trek. I can't even watch discovery, it's horrible.
Not sure why it wouldn't be good. Is it related to mint specifically? I'm using plasma constantly on my machine, including work all day. It's a very nice system. But I'm not on mint, that's why I'm asking.
I personally don't trust Snowden. Looking at the difference between how he was treated and how Assange was treated. One guy gets to rot in prison, other guy gets movies made about him from Hollywood. Snowden is very much controlled opposition in my mind.
But that being said, I think he is truthful about OpenAI. Which sucks, because now I and many others love using chat gpt.
It's possible to self host these things though. I read an article about it here:

But probably not worth the money for most people.

I think its not just kids anymore, it's adults too. Everyone is glued to their screens these days. But kids are more vulnerable to influences from "social" media and don't have any defences to the psychological warfare going on. Of course they feel like shit.

I think this is the perfect analogy for what's happening right now to the open web.

This is actually pretty brilliant and innovative.

I don't like Apple but it's great that their security is so good when it comes to this.
This was a really good summary of what Rust feels like in my opinion. I'm still a beginner myself but I recognize what this article is saying very much.
The hacker news comments are as usual very good too:

Reddit and its bankers are guiding that they could price the social media platform's initial public offering (IPO) at the top of the indicated range or above, according to a source familiar with the matter. I fully expect a nosedive in stock price but who knows. Maybe a pump and dump.

The floating window stacks looks nice, and also the OSD's. :)
I know this probably won't feel like a compete desktop environment when it comes out, but it's looking promising. I think it will feel faster and smoother then Gnome and Plasma, but that's just a guess.

This is the first thing I actually believe has a chance to hurt Google. Chat Gpt really succeeded, and it's Microsofts billions behind it. All at the same time as Google has lost its culture of innovation and has become a creepy sleezy company.

This is the real reason for companies wanting people back to the office.
All this talk about collaboration and team spirit is just the publicly given reason for wanting people back to the office.
The real reason is that now the owners of the buildings are losing money.
