Brush: Chisel and Hound Ambrosia Maple with 26 mm synthetic Maggard knot
Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 14 (8/8", extra hollow ground, stainless steel)
Lather: Barrister and Mann Lavanille (Excelsior)
Aftershave: Chatillon Lux Pure Lavender
Fragrance: Imaginary Authors Sundrunk
I told u/scribe__ that I'd join him for Sundrunk Sunday on the next sunny Sunday, and I've been looking forward to it. In the meanwhile, winter came back for one last hail Mary,
and I don't care for it one bit. I'll just pretend that it's still shorts-and-barbecue-on-the-balcony weather for the purposes of this SOTD.
The big Frio is easily my best razor, and Excelsior is still one of the best bases IMO. No surprise I had a comfortable BBS relaxed Sunday morning shave.
Lavanille is one of the scents I prefer in the soap form over the splash. The soap scent is warm and rich, but the splash has a fresh note that seems out of place for me. Almost tart. Sharp aromatic Pure Lavender to the rescue!
And for the pièce de résistance, juicy Sundrunk. I'm ready for a bleak spring day at the indoor kids' park.
After the conversation with @djundjila aboutElectric Sheep, I needed to try it (I can't remember when I used it for the last time. Like in Switzerland, it's cold here, and getting back to my Austere August setup from 2 years ago is one way of coping.
It's certainly not the scent of the century, but it's fresh and reminds me of summer. As a bonus, no mosquito will come to haunt me. Great close shave, and my face feels glorious.
Razor: J.A. Henckels Friodur 472 13/16" Full Hollow Square Point
Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Spiced - Soap
Toner: None
Aftershave: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Spiced - Aftershave
2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
Another great travel shave. A stainless straight, travel strop, synthetic knot, soap and splash make for a great kit. Feels very civilized :)
I went to the meetup at Maggard Razors yesterday and had the opportunity to meet several sub members. All were as nice in person as they are as redditors. I really enjoyed this opportunity and was honored to chat with some of you in person. I hope to return next year. I also had the chance to meet several of the vendors who regularly frequent the sub. I have way too much stuff already, and told myself not to buy anything, yet I walked away with samples galore, and purchases from Stirling, and Wholly Kaw. I really need to work on self control.
Post Shave: Thayer's Cucumber facial spray; moisturiser
Fragrance: Southern Witchcrafts Valley of Ashes EdP
Sometimes you just need a quick shave and this was one of them. Fast, soulless and acceptable...
...if not for the absolute beast that Valley of Ashes is. On Friday, I finally found my EdP bottle again in my backpack (well hidden after the trip to Bad Liebenstein) and so I just had to use it today. I already did the perfume in the morning, but this glorious scent also deserves a good shave tbh. A properly hydrated SW lather is glorious and feels great. As for the scent itself, I actually think it's a great composition. Valley of Ashes is like gazing into the abyss and the abyss gazes back at you, smiling. It's a dark scent, but still has something comfortable about it. Fitting for the current bleak weather and return of winter over here. This is the shaving soap equivalent to Rob Zombies' song "Dragula". Dark and powerful but with a sprinkle of familiarity.
1 pass plus cleanups. I'm kinda glad when the cartridges are used up, since I am sacrificing a bit of comfort for the fast results.
