How do I pull a silicone-glued knot?
  • I've experienced this once before, putting to rest my disbelief of similar stories. The one I had problems with had too much silicone, so it was all up around the sides, etc.

I don't remember how I got it out, but I think twisting while pulling helped.

  • As you may know, Central Texas Soaps is out of the shaving game. I bought them a while back because they accepted cryptocurrency and I had several hundred dollars of "profit" to blow "at the time".

It's solid soap and it was cheaper than Stirling I think. Vegan, though. A bit on the voluminous side, but still creamy. On their website they advertised it as a "thirsty" soap which I appreciate hearing from an artisan.

The scent is pretty basic and nothing to write home about. I have "Down at the River" from them also, and it's a nice fresh scent.

    • Razor: Merkur Futur
    • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1)
    • Lather: Central Texas Soaps - Cherry Pipe - Soap
    • Post Shave: Brut - Splash On
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm

Whipped out the Futur. With it's early 90's aesthetic, I just assume these are used by guys with mullets and yellow Corvette's. It shaves really well, I'll give it that. I cranked it up to 3.5 today.

  • I'm so excited for you!

Varen was one of the very first samples I got from Stirling, and when I started wetshaving that's all I used -- samples. My initial impression of the scent was such a mixed bag. I wanted to like it, there was something weird about it... Over time it grew on me, and now (especially with the aftershave and EdT) it's my favorite scent in all of wetshaving.

    Red Tip++

Such a pleasure to use, especially coming from using a Black Beauty for a couple of days. I really do prefer razors without any positive exposure.

I haven't had much sense of smell the past few days (not COVID thankfully) so using Scots Pine Sheep multiple days in a row hasn't been a problem. It's not a bad scent, there's just not much too it. And the mutton base, as we all know, is great.

  • [Raffle][Fundraiser] Spearhead Shaving Company - Roman Spice raffle

Spearhead Shaving Company is holding a raffle in support of music education in their community. The prize is a Roman Spice soap, aftershave, and EdT.

I'm not affiliated with Spearhead, and if you buy any entries you decrease my chances of winning. That alone should make you want to buy some.

Why are Stop Lines (in the US, at least) often set too far back to see any crossing traffic?

I've seen them called "Stop Lines", "Balk Line", etc. The thick line painted on the road at a Stop Sign.

You're supposed to stop before the line, but a lot of the time there's a bush or other obstruction so you can't see any crossing traffic. You have to creep forward until you can see anything.

Is there a reason for this? Is it done on purpose? It makes sense if there's a crosswalk or something, but I see it a lot where there shouldn't be any pedestrian activity.

New page added to the wiki regarding Ever-Ready Streamline razors.

I recently came into possession of an Ever-Ready Jewel "Streamline". Streamline has become the vernacular in referencing various razors that are all, admittedly, exactly the same.

The only difference you'll find is between Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Thanks to Cbubs (the man behind Catie's Bubbles), I was made aware of an old reddit post by the late 120inna55. I decided his post was worthy of being preserved on another platform, and our wiki fit the bill.

I made some formatting changes and made the pictures appear in line so you don't have to click over to imgur.com. Cool!

I hope you enjoy! If you have any other ideas for the wiki, please let me know -- or make your own account and get to work!

    [Mail Call] Ever-Ready Streamline Jewel

A couple of months ago, @EldrormR@sub.wetshaving.social loaned me some GEM razors including a beautiful Ever-Ready Streamline. His was in a plastic (or maybe bakelite?) case. "Streamline" has become the vernacular for referencing any of the various razors that look like a "Streamline". They come in various packaging, which differentiates them for collectors.

Anyway, I fell in love and started to casually keep an eye out for one. They are notoriously hard to come by, especially in the USA. Nevertheless, one fell in my lap! A nice one, too!

Specifically, the one I got is called an Ever-Ready Jewel because it comes in a metal case, and although mine doesn't have the "paperwork", these metal cases came with an insert that called it "Jewel".

Most of these have purple felt inside the case. The one I got has red felt.
